Velvet taco
Substantial-Tax3238@reddit
Velvet taco is one of my litmus tests for when people have terrible taste in food. If people think it’s amazing they almost certainly will recommend the trendy expensive very “Dallas” food places.
street593@reddit
I love a good wagyu steak and will go to some of the best places in Dallas to get one. I also ate Dino nuggets for dinner yesterday. Who cares what people eat. Sometimes you can just be in the mood for junk and that's fine.
Substantial-Tax3238@reddit
What do Dino nuggets have to do with velvet taco? Velvet taco is bad because it’s overpriced millennial trendy slop. It’s a very “Dallas” restaurant.
street593@reddit
I think the point I was making was straight forward and simple enough.
Overpriced and the quality of the food are two seperate problems.
Substantial-Tax3238@reddit
I’m snobbish because I think Dallas has overpriced food? Make that make sense? Velvet taco is bad and expensive. It’s popular because dallasites care more about trendy food than good food. They will pay for expensive food if the aesthetic has neon lights and artificial turf on the walls. If someone likes food like that, I know they have bad taste. What does that have to do with me be snobbish?
street593@reddit
Your original comment made no mention of price.
ArmWarm8743@reddit
Velvet Taco is good as long as you understand that they are not authentic tacos.
CharlieTeller@reddit
Yeah this is a weird take. When something is the "worst", I feel like it needs to be disgusting vomit worthy potentially rotten with bad health standards.
Velvet taco is just, weird "tacos" but they're well made.
ArmWarm8743@reddit
I agree. I was looking at the responses expecting to see worse than Mi Cocina and Velvet Taco. I think people are going to these types of restaurants expecting something they shouldn’t.
CharlieTeller@reddit
Yeah I was hoping to see something like kitchen nightmares material. Like someone went in to this place a few times and was served raw chicken, or found bugs in the restaurant. Not just basic "Eh it was mid" type comments.
medisamurai@reddit
yeah its weird but basically, 'how bout a hamburger on a tortilla?'
but honestly it turns out i like hamburgers on a tortilla.
GuairdeanBeatha@reddit
I still miss Tin Star.
medisamurai@reddit
i remember eating there, where was that?
mrossm@reddit
There was one on Coit just before it crossed from Dallas to Plano
Delicious_Hand527@reddit
The one on Coit was in Plano, in front of Central Market where Chipotle is now.
There was also one fronting the DNT in Plano - in the same shopping center Target is. I believe there was also one around Pearl/McKinney Ave area.
SaltyCurrent4975@reddit
There was one in Frisco too - on Preston
medisamurai@reddit
there was one somewhere in dallas but i remember at the end it fell off pretty hard. for some reason i remember it being overly salty
BadGolferDallas@reddit
Also was one at NW HWY and Preston area.
ChakaCar@reddit
there was also one in the shopping center across from the galleria
JerseyGirl972@reddit
I think there was one on Montfort and Beltlibe?
funkoelvis43@reddit
In addition to locations others have mentioned, there was one at the Tollway and Alpha, and in Allen at McDermott and 75, it’s a Torchy’s location now
curtisinteruptus@reddit
Quadrangle
medisamurai@reddit
ok now that i know, i used to get my haircut over there.
MapPuzzleheaded4983@reddit
there was one in Uptown and one at Northpark
mattgoldey@reddit
There was one off McKinney Ave. in uptown that I used to go to for lunch sometimes when I worked in the area.
ChakaCar@reddit
their breakfast tacos were it
Keep_Plano_Corporate@reddit
I feel like they were owned by the Texadelphia people.
Texadelphia is generally okay, albeit overpriced, but they pick some of the most dog shit real estate and then have restaurants that never seem busy, expect the one they had 20+ years ago in Las Colonas in front of Kroger.
Overwhelmed42@reddit
Las Colinas one was there less than 10 years ago - it slapped
cbass12088@reddit
I worked for Fuddrucker’s. The same franchise owners of Fudd’s owned tin star. I ended up working at Tin Star off coit. They all closed around COVID. Owners probably took the PPP money and bailed. They now own a couple of Dave’s Hot Chickens.
medisamurai@reddit
used to go there in austin back in the 90s but the one on greenville was ok for a while but went downhill quick. not only bad but it was dirty
Aleyla@reddit
I still miss cuba de libre. They had the best cheeseburger tacos plus sangria by the pitcher
El_Pollo_Del-Mar@reddit
dammit. tin star was a victim of being just good without memes and topping overload. Just good tacos and salsas for good taco's sake. Miss it dearly.
SaltyCurrent4975@reddit
⭐️ Viva Le Tin Star ⭐️
Edicedi@reddit
Their corn salsa was amazing.
GuairdeanBeatha@reddit
So was the tomatillo salsa.
JJ82DMC@reddit
Holy shit did you ever just unlock a memory I forgot I had.
GreenKnight51@reddit
Definitely. Velvet’s taco burger is solid, but always leaves me nostalgic for Tin Star’s version.
MapPuzzleheaded4983@reddit
my family talking about Tin Star last weekend - we miss it! They had the best queso.
BadGolferDallas@reddit
Hell yes!!!! Tin Star was so good!!!
suhhdude1@reddit
This one being first is hard for me bc that hamburger taco is SO fkn good also so is the elote😭
BillyBobJangles@reddit
I think 'how bout X on a tortilla' is a great concept. So many non conventional things go good on a tortilla.
medisamurai@reddit
yeah that just came to mind. the tandoori chicken with rice was one too.
SirZack17@reddit
One of my go-to burgers honestly.
street593@reddit
Torchy's is doing that right now for the month of April.
PossiblyAChipmunk@reddit
Central market off Lovers had an amazing hamburger wrap. Sadly it was dropped when they re-did the prepared foods area a few years ago.
sarahkazz@reddit
No it isn’t
virgo_em@reddit
Velvet Taco is one of my go-tos for vegetarian tacos. I get a lot of people want “authentic tacos” which is cool, but even if i get something with just beans somewhere authentic, there’s probably lard in the beans or tortillas. VT is a solid choice for veg tacos that are more than just bean and cheese.
Emergency_Basket_851@reddit
Find you some huitlacoche and never look back, guey
Final_Prune3903@reddit
I love the cauliflower one
joelwink@reddit
The Nashville hot tofu one is great.
JohnSolo22@reddit
I can’t remember which one, maybe someone can advise?
It’s either Torchy’s or Velvet Taco. One of them has pretty tasty elotes/street corn as a side. Maybe both? Who has it?
Jim_Nills_Mustache@reddit
Yea the cauliflower one is shockingly part of my standard order and I’m not even vegetarian
Final_Prune3903@reddit
Right exactly! Fun tacos lol I love the cauliflower one
burner4242@reddit
Agree the Chicken Tikka, Brisket, and a few others are delicious.
No_Turnip1766@reddit
Chicken tikka, fish and chips for the win. Yum.
Left_Tourist428@reddit
Chicken tikka is 🔥🔥🔥
mrezee@reddit
Same with Torchy’s.
ArmWarm8743@reddit
Mmm I love their chips and queso. 🤤
Lickford@reddit
Their queso is the best.
IranianLawyer@reddit
Not even the chicken tikka masala taco?
NaitiveTexan1270@reddit
Velvet Taco is for suburban caucaisions.
ArmWarm8743@reddit
I’m Mexican-American and enjoy their tacos. 🤷🏻♀️
NaitiveTexan1270@reddit
Good for you.
BlazinAzn38@reddit
I like velvet taco, I’m under no impression that’s an authentic Mexican eatery.
No_Internal9345@reddit
Better than Chipotle
ToddtheRugerKid@reddit
Same with Torchy's.
Abadabadon@reddit
They still arent good tho, just fun
ArmWarm8743@reddit
To each their own. I like them, and I grew up eating tacos made my grandmas. 🤷🏻♀️
Abadabadon@reddit
Yea everyone likes different ice cream flavors, I just think their stuff was nasty. Really wanted to like them too!
burner4242@reddit
Yep I like both authentic tacos and “creative” ones
Shloop_Shloop_Splat@reddit
Love velvet. Brunch tots are a must.
heretomeetthedog@reddit
They ended tots 😭
Shloop_Shloop_Splat@reddit
They still had them at the fort worth location last time I went, are they really gone?🥲
heretomeetthedog@reddit
They were last Thursday at least. I asked too because I thought maybe they just moved to a secret menu and the woman there told me that they’re completely gone. I feel like we need a write in campaign because that was always my favorite part!
cri8tian@reddit
Dang wtf I really like there burritos
minguskingus@reddit
Ughhh it used to be so good, last time i tried it was so disappointing. Idk what they did, but it has gone so downhill.
PyramidOfMediocrity@reddit
I didn't realize how much I love velvet taco until the urge to fight you swelled in my chest!
They are to tacos what Disneyworld Epcot is to Europe and Asia, and just like Epcot, they're amazing.
HanginOn9114@reddit
More specifically: I have tried the red velvet cake from Velvet Taco twice (once was free because they forgot to make my food) and both times it was dry and bad.
I love the tacos though, so good
NotNotACop28@reddit
You take that back
Clown45@reddit
That chicken tikki taco tho
Quixotic91@reddit
If that’s the worst place you’ve ever been, you need to get out more.
skyrose214@reddit
Not the worst , but the worst that most of Dallas would know of .
Glittering_Craft_938@reddit
i couldnt upvote enough
Numerous_Delay_6306@reddit
fucking trash hard agree
kingarthur595@reddit
So. Bad.
OctaviusMaximus_@reddit
Velvet Taco is like what a white dude imagined a taco was from memory
ItsYaGirlConfusion@reddit
That shit is crazy expensive for a mid taco
Marybella_88@reddit
Omg 3 times - I keep trying but it sucks every time !!!
katisauce@reddit
I love the vegetarian paneer taco
SystemNo4724@reddit
Their chicken and waffles taco is pretty fire 🔥🔥
DizzyDentist22@reddit
Their tacos taste like lunchables
assholy_than_thou@reddit
I love their Tacos
sefronia3@reddit
I moved, but I still miss their tikka masala tacos with the idle time cider they used to have
Breauxmetheus@reddit
That’s blackout food
hyrush1@reddit
I only go for $7.50 Tikka bowls on Tuesdays. Extra protein for $2.50 and it’s a really good sized bowl for 10 bucks
corscor@reddit
is that a tues only special or smth?
hyrush1@reddit
Yes only on Tuesdays. I order on the app, not sure if it works in person
Amanee97@reddit
So gross!
xCAMPINGxCARLx@reddit
They're one of the few places that does quality and filling lettuce wrap tacos, which is great when you're trying to avoid carbs while still hitting your calorie goals.
Fraz0R_Raz0R@reddit
Really good paneer and chicken Tikka taco (if you can call it that) bang average at everything else
Yarusenai@reddit
I go there every week, fight me 😭 TBF I am getting a bit tired of it now, but the Chicken Tikka taco is amazing.
BadGolferDallas@reddit
I 100% support this. Everyone gives me shit about my opinion but Velvet Taco is trash. Especially for the money.
Sosantula21@reddit
The place used to be good when they only had the 1 Dallas location and a limited menu
poptartheart@reddit
idk how they have so many locations with such expensive yet ASS tacos
Large-Garden4833@reddit
They got rid of the only one I liked 😕
cruSaderS325@reddit
Eno’s Pizza. Tried it three times. The pizza tastes like a cracker and every time I’ve had poor service or poor food. Not worth it.
Cool-Daikon-5265@reddit
Which location?
cruSaderS325@reddit
Bishop arts
CharlieTeller@reddit
Some people really like that cracker crust. I can't stand it.
ds3-pvp-variety@reddit
Ever been to cafe Brazil? Don’t.
medisamurai@reddit
you have to go back to the 2000s for it to be decent, even then it was hit or miss
EmberAlexandra@reddit
I worked at Cafe Brazil for years and I second this big time. The first time I worked there, mid 2010s, it was still decent. I went back for a short stint after COVID and good lord. If any of y'all could see what occurs in those kitchens you would absolutely never return. Fucking. Disgusting.
lost_in_trepidation@reddit
I hated when everyone wanted to go to Cafe Brazil in the middle of the night. Buzz Brews was around at the time and was way better.
medisamurai@reddit
yeah that one on central went bad after 4-5 years but the lakewood one lasted longer with quality food. Eventually the hours got shorter and no one really went. No business has ever done well in that location
princess_carolyn7@reddit
long wait time for ok food
No_Basket_4@reddit
Agree - got chicken and waffles...waffle was super dry, almost stale, and the chicken was undercooked... yuk
Wonderful_Horror7315@reddit
I hate to hear that. I worked at the one in Lakewood for a few years in the mid 90s. Everything was made from scratch and so delicious.
weezyc27@reddit
I’m Brazilian and I was so excited to try it out. They have NOTHING to do with Brazil or have any Brazilian food on their menu.
OHMEGA@reddit
They never claimed to be Brazilian, they got the name because they originally sourced coffee from there.
Griemo@reddit
Cafe Brazil was amazing when it was one of five nonsketch places in deep ellum in 2010. Not anymore though.
BeachStrandBiker@reddit
Ha this is what came to mind for me as well. Back in 2010 it was where my college friends and I would go to catch up for brunch, afternoon coffee or late night eats. I then moved away for over a decade, came back and was kind of let down. It is nice to have places like it though.
obvious_karma_stud@reddit
Soooo opening one in McKinney might be a bad idea?
boopernickel@reddit
It went from being one of the only non-sketchy places in Deep Ellum to one of the sketchy (seeming) ones, hahaha.
God, I miss sketchy Deep Ellum. I was in my late teens/early 20s pre-2015 and spent far too much time down on Elm with far more confidence than was good for me. I miss those times, haha. Now Deep Ellum freaks me out more than it ever used to because its so crowded, loud, and expensive and I rarely go unless taking out a friend or relative from out of the area.
BeachStrandBiker@reddit
It has to be a nostalgia thing. I remember eating there as a college kid with friends and it was a good spot. Then I came back like over a decade later, tried it and was highly disappointed. It's no where near bad, just average. Not something I would really make a go to.
Educational-Fact9286@reddit
only good for bottomless coffee
WET318@reddit
Is Cafe Brazil black owned?
SeasonofMist@reddit
it used to be so rad. like.....mid 2000s. couldn't pay me to go now
HanginOn9114@reddit
Cafe Brazil hits hard when it's 3am and you're 17 years old
Mustapher1@reddit
Man, Cafe Brasil at 2am after a night partying in lower Greenville always hit the spot.
ArmWarm8743@reddit
I loved breakfast at Cafe Brazil near SMU but haven’t been there since I switched jobs in 2017ish. I miss that place.
mrsockburgler@reddit
Used to go there in the 90’s. It was awesome.
emeryldmist@reddit
I prefer that Cafe Brazil just lives in my memories of late night study sessions and Thursday morning alcohol soaking brunches while I was at SMU. And then 2nd dinner with the whole club at 2:30 am.
Cafe Brazil circa 1998 - 2008, may it live forever in my soul!
No-Suggestion4833@reddit
Bring back the late night location on coit. That’s the only thing that would bring me back… if that.
Individual-History87@reddit
It was legit delicious in the 90s!
StargasmSargasm@reddit
Used to love going there after a night of drinking, but the last time I went was about 2013, when I bit into my eggs and there was a bone from a steak (I didn't order steak and eggs btw) in there and it broke one of my teeth.
Ok_Guarantee6605@reddit
So sad too, great place in the early 2000s then it was sold off and now near inedible.
9bikes@reddit
Cafe Brazil is another place that used to be good. It isn't even that the food has gone downhill as much as they've gotten extremely old and dingy. If they'd shut 'em down and scrub 'em from top to bottom, I bet we'd all perceive the food as much improved.
doppelstranger@reddit
💯
NoPhone167@reddit
Got me picturing a bridesmaids situation.
Emergency_Ad1152@reddit
Starwood Cafe. I am mind-blown on how many people eat there everyday.
whiplash_7641@reddit
They had so much potential the second I saw the brand on the mugs I knew it wasnt gonna last
karma_time_machine@reddit
What brand was on the mug? I have been there once and thought the coffee tasted like swamp water, but didn't pay attention.
whiplash_7641@reddit
Segafredo I see it in all the breakfast spots that have the same vibe. Egg bar, egg daddy . I have yet to find a place that I enjoy their breakfast potatoes like ascension coffee so fucking. Good
karma_time_machine@reddit
Thanks I'll check it out!
Emergency_Ad1152@reddit
They gave me uncooked fried chicken for chicken and waffles. I brought it up, they took it back and brought back.. raw fried chicken again.. left without paying.
BitNo574@reddit
Depends.. I recommend the one on 121 custer. Good prices for lots of food. The rest are a chain
spraynpray87@reddit
Mediocre and WAY over priced for breakfast. Never going back.
Cjc3478@reddit
Magic Time Machine
emeryldmist@reddit
That place was great for a pre-prom dinner in 1998. But that's about all it was good for.
kgosfm@reddit
LOL. Came here to say the same thing, but in 1976 instead of 1998. 😆
Breauxmetheus@reddit
7 times. I had an employer who was obsessed with this place. The staff really liked him and didn’t want to disappoint him, but the end of year dinner we held here was mid at the very best. 🤦🏻♂️
BeachStrandBiker@reddit
Imagine being a high roller local at this place lmaoooo
Breauxmetheus@reddit
The man is a saint and a legend, but yeah….
number231@reddit
I’ll say it again. the SALAD CAR. with the fakest bacon bits and warm Sysco dressings is enough to discourage a second visit
sband3@reddit
True. Food is not too good but we have gone for the “entertainment” 🤣
SpeedSignal7625@reddit
Shaggy was the most low-effort server ever. Ding Room is TRASHED—not just threadbare for aesthetic, but genuinely falling apart with a well-worn grease track. Wanted to share the experience w my daughter, but left absolutely disgusted.
littlemachina@reddit
Went for a friend's birthday. I was confused by the theme. Didn’t know it was like Dicks thing where they try to be mean or whatever. That part was at least entertaining. The food and drinks were garbage.
TheDottieDot@reddit
Their salad bar stands out as the worst I’ve ever seen. Ever.
seilrelies@reddit
I once saw Mario smoking a cigarette out back
ItsJustAPoleThang@reddit
Sadly 😭

badlyagingmillenial@reddit
Al Biernat's NORTH/Addison location.
Now, it's not technically the worst, because the food was okay.
My wife and I went there last April for our anniversary.
They led us to the farthest room and put us in a corner table next to a staff machine. There was no one else in the room. There were ~20 tables in this room so it was awkward being alone.
The booth had multiple burn holes and the cushions were detached. The table wobbled. The white tablecloth had many stains.
The server rushed everything and didn't explain specials. They were not cheerful. It felt like they didn't want us there/didn't want to be working.
I ordered a ~$90 wagyu ribeye cap special. The outside was burned badly and made half of it inedible. I was told this is how they do their steaks. My wifes normal ribeye came out without any burns. Note: burns, not a bit of charring or just being over seared a little.
The server dropped our check a couple minutes after our entrees came out and didn't ask about dessert or after dinner drinks. They were upset we re-opened the ticket for dessert and an after dinner port.
Again, this is for Al Biernat's north, not the Dallas location.
Standard-Day1564@reddit
I've never heard anything but high praise for this restaurant. It's one of my all time faves!!! I love all the delicious food they offer, especially the NY strip and Chilean sea bass served over lobster risotto!!!🦞
BeachStrandBiker@reddit
Nuri tried to pull this shit and I had to awkwardly put an end to it the moment I saw what was happening. After checking in the waitress led us past the bar, through the restaurant, and out the doors to what looked like the smoking area of a bar in Deep Ellum. I immediately told her we did not reserve outside and mentioned this was a major dinner we will be happy to take elsewhere. Kudos to them for fixing the situation. But to think that it's ok to lead us to an outside table when half the appeal is their interior is absurd.
liquidnight247@reddit
Went to the uptown location a couple of times and found it just ok. Nothing wrong, nothing good either. Service felt a bit forced and of course it was busy. But we have many better steak places
bunanaroki@reddit
Wow so sorry you had a bad experience! Al Biernat’s is my partner and I’s special occasion spot! They never miss and always have a fantastic time there.
enthusiasmcurber@reddit
Always been amazing when I've gone. Fantastic steaks and great service.
tauzeta@reddit
Interesting. My wife and I went there recently and had a great experience from service to the food.
KayCee_WhatYes@reddit
I was going to say the same! Everything we tried there was so incredibly bland, big let down.
danmtz@reddit
Been to only this location several times for work/vendor dinners, never had a bad time or a bad meal.
cjgrtr2@reddit
Campisis
quaestor44@reddit
Really? No way. Campesis is solid. Now yea it’s not carbone but it’s a very decent local spot.
LetItGrow1994@reddit
It’s an icon. And easily one of the most over hated restaurants in Dallas.
New transplants don’t like because they go expecting an authentic Italian place. It’s not it’s a red sauce joint that catered to the tastes of the residents when it opened.
90% of people raised here like it 10% of the people who moved here like it.
Just tired of seeing the over the top, “I tried Campisis and it was so bad it gave my grandmother cancer” with the obvious follow up comment “yup agreed just moved here don’t understand the hype it’s literal baby shit on a cracker.”
Campisis is great when you don’t have a recently relocated middle manager in your ear saying how bad it is.
liquidnight247@reddit
Are you ok? Can people just like what they like? Is that ok with you?
LetItGrow1994@reddit
Are you ok? Can people just have an opinion on other peoples opinions? Is that ok with you?
Wide-Dark-2187@reddit
Are you okay? Can other people just have an opinion on other people’s opinions about others peoples opinions on people’s tastes in food? Is that okay with you?
LetItGrow1994@reddit
I’m not okay 😔
Soonhun@reddit
I was born and raised in Carrollton. So not Dallas, but definitely not a transplant. I tried Campisi's in Downtown for the first time two years ago and absolutely hated it. There just seems to be nothing truly great about the restaurant to justify it being an icon in the city.
LetItGrow1994@reddit
Sorry but it is, ask any of the non-redditor “Well AKSHUALLY 🤓👆” people that grew up here and they’ll tell you it’s an icon.
It’s like you don’t people don’t read. I didn’t say “EVERYONE THAT TOOK THEIR FIRST BREATHS IN DALLAS 100% THINKS CAMPISIS IS THE BEST ITALIAN FOOD TO EVER GRACE THEIR LIPS”. I said the vast majority of people raised here like it.
Campisis at Mockingbird is 100% an icon. You are just wrong dude sorry.
Soonhun@reddit
But when you pull random statistics out of nowhere, how are people able to counter other than replying, individually, they do not like it? As has been happening in your replies. You random stats are basically just weasel words. Yeah, it has nine locations, but plenty of chains are bad but financially thrive. Especially pizza chains.
LetItGrow1994@reddit
Ermmm you caught me, how did you know my 90/10 % were made up 😨. I knew I should’ve held a focus group and presented a dashboard of my findings before commenting on Reddit. 😭
You’re right, if you say it’s not an icon, it’s 100% not. I’m so sorry sensei that I offended your rich, suburban sensibilities. I should’ve known that someone from Carrollton obviously has a better grasp on Dallas cultural establishments than I did.
I’ll go commit sepukku in the trinity now.
ElderFlour@reddit
I go for crab claws and happy hour pizza.
Educational-Fact9286@reddit
lived here and my parents knew the campisis the food is trash local or not lol
LetItGrow1994@reddit
Oh really 🤓
trumenblack1975@reddit
I know plenty of native Dallasites who dislike Campisis. I’ve gone a couple of times and each time, we were about the only ones in there. Their calamari is decent to
LetItGrow1994@reddit
That’s cool, I’d still say 90% of DFW people raised here like it. They wouldn’t have as many locations as they do if everyone hated it. Calamari is good, try the crab claws at the mockingbird location, really good if butter and garlic are your thing.
Chewy96@reddit
Campisis is fine, its pizza is just twice the price it should be.
skteitelman@reddit
Grew up here, it’s ass.
cjgrtr2@reddit
The implication here being that if you were born in Dallas you don’t have taste buds
trumenblack1975@reddit
Ik imma get downvoted but hard agree
LetItGrow1994@reddit
It’s not the best in the world, but it’s ours. And it’s really damn good to heat up a take n bake after a night on Greenville ave.
Just annoyed by how much people hate on it.
karma_time_machine@reddit
I'm a transplant and stop in the one on elm downtown every now and again for lunch. Nice dimly lit with good decor, good vibes for chill conversation, never super busy, people inside are always friendly. The food is good enough. Not my favorite but the hate is not warranted.
Campisis and Cindi's Deli are my two spots that feel more down to earth than anywhere else in the area. Keep the hate flowing so I can have them as they are.
LetItGrow1994@reddit
Exaccttlllyyyyyy. I’m not saying it should be in the Michelin guide or that it should be on any pizza rankings. But the staff are incredible, drinks aren’t crazy expensive, and I really enjoy the dark atmosphere.
Fun fact my great-grandfather remodeled the Egyptian on Mockingbird for the Campisis when they moved in. My family has been going since the very beginning. So I’m biased.
Thanks for seeing the place for what it is!
king_julian_is_thick@reddit
Been preaching this since the first year I moved here, campisis is straight ass and I cannot believe it is so succesful
SadatayAllDamnDay@reddit
Pizza options in Dallas were pretty bleak for decades.
electricgotswitched@reddit
As a Campsis truther I just can't do their pizza anymore. You can more corn meal on the bottom than anything on top.
I say it died when they remove the weird parking structure that made it fucking impossible to park lmao
CharlieTeller@reddit
I truly think people are missing the point of "worst"
RoundRockRaider@reddit
I went once and ordered Italian sausage as a topping. I was expecting it to be cut up on the pasta. Nope. They just took a sausage and buried it in red sauce. In their dark ass restaurant, it looked like a 9 inch turd.
pana_colada@reddit
I like their pizza, house salad, and crab claws.
Mentholio@reddit
I so wanted to like Campisis but it just wasn't good (when I tried it in the mid 1990s).
JamesonThibodeaux@reddit
Campisi granddaughter was a playboy cover and center fold I think!
liquidnight247@reddit
That doesn’t make the food any better unfortunately 😆
JamesonThibodeaux@reddit
The ambiance. If you ask to sit close to the kitchen, you can see the old timers, visors on, cigars, liquor, guns on table playing cards.

cjgrtr2@reddit
I had the pizza once and thought it was terrible, so I was like well maybe they aren’t very good at pizza but could be good at pasta, nope dog shit at that too and it’s not cheap either
liquidnight247@reddit
This. Tried it twice, ate two different dishes to make sure as everyone hypes the place so much. Below average food, interesting decor and vibe from its history but nothing else.
Ekusin@reddit
You have to do Campisi’s right. Don’t expect too much. Get the crab claws, enjoy the garlicky sauce with their bread and that shitty little salad with their peperocino.

Campisi's is the spot that gave my family one of our favorite restaurant stories that we love to repeat to one another.
My mom, aunt, and 6 year old cousin and I went to the original one for dinner one night in the mid 90's. My cousin wanted minestrone soup for dinner and the elderly waitress argued with her about whether or not she really wanted that or not. She told my aunt and mom that they needed to talk to my cousin about her dinner choice but my aunt and mom were okay with it.
Then my mom and aunt wanted to order a bottle of wine for the table. The waitress then told them both that nobody needs that much wine. Mom and aunt insisted that was what they wanted. The waitress then said that she would get the bottle for them but keep it at the bar because she didn't trust them. She told them that they just had to ask her when they wanted a refill. Surprisingly she was never around to ask for a refill.
Years later, we went back and a waiter refused to let me order aan item on the menu. He said that they didn't have what I wanted on the menu so I got up and pointed to it on the menu. He still didn't believe me that they had it, not run out of it or anything but that they never had it and the menu was wrong. I insisted on ordering it and he served me something else. I sent it back and asked for a manager. That is when I was able to get what I wanted to eat.

Sad because this is one thing I miss the most after moving out of state. My state is missing all of those mid tier chains like this for a quick, not absolutely horrible for you lunch. I miss the baked potatoes and salad bar.
We literally have nothing like it here. I miss Jasons, Mcalisters, Rosas etc... Just crappy mid level food. I either pretty much have fast food, fine dining, or you cook at home.

Waya Ramen on Gaston. Sorry. Second time i went there i got the most wild, intense food poisoning ive ever had before or since. I get ptsd just driving by that place.
itsmilli@reddit
Was that recently? Sorry to hear.
We used to love that place but for the last year or so the food has been off. If the owner is there cooking it’s always great. But if not, the flavor isn’t quite right and the dish is really oily/greasy. Plus the service is incredibly slow.
It’s too bad because the tomato ramen used to be amazing and was legitimately one of my favorite meals in the city.
NegotiationSalt666@reddit
It was almost 2 years ago now. My then boyfriend at the time had been planning to propose the weekend after this incident, but put it off a while because he didn’t want me associating the memory of getting engaged with me basically destroying the bathroom the night before. 🫠

electricgotswitched@reddit
People been talking about it going downhill for years. I've got so many 5 free wing coupons though it's hard to not go there for 2 beers and free wings
gmblake9@reddit
Yeah dude it’s the membership for me… do you have it? Screw the $5 coupons. $10 for 6 months membership and you can get a free 10 piece every month, free app/dessert every time you go, and free entree on birthday for you and significant other (you can add a friend if you don’t have a SO). It’s one of the smartest restaurant concepts I’ve seen. As a customer, I feel like I’m getting free stuff all the time, and I really am… And they’re keeping me in there. Does Pluckers have the best wings on the planet? No. But they’re good enough for me with all things considered
electricgotswitched@reddit
I'm a "Legacy Member". I think I first joined it when a lifetime membership was $10 back in 2015-2016ish. I wish they'd drop one in NE Dallas closer to 635.
MorseyMeese@reddit
It has gone downhill
gmblake9@reddit
The membership at Plucker’s makes it one of my favorite restaurants on the planet tbh… $10 for 6 month membership and my fiancée and I get a free app/dessert every time we go AND a free meal per month AND a free meal for both our birthdays. You just can’t beat it. It’s incredible for both sides. They keep a loyal customer, I stay happy because I get free stuff every month. Bdubs could never…
coke3993@reddit
They’re always packed, you can’t expect top-notch service every single time. Pluckers is one of the last reliable places in Dallas IMO. I know the service sucks, but I also know I’m gonna get my cravings fixed lol
Razor1834@reddit
I agree and hate that so much. It used to be a go-to for me and I still get a craving for it sometimes, but then if I get it I realize my craving is for something that doesn’t exist there anymore.

Del Frisco, easily the worst I’ve had
CharlieTeller@reddit
Del Friscos was the worst food you've ever had? That's, interesting. I wish I was that wealthy to have that be my low bar.
WesmokePax@reddit
lol it was a special occasion. I went for Valentine’s Day this year, and paid 240$ for the most bland and unseasoned food I’ve ever had. Me and my date ended up eating tacos that night.
CharlieTeller@reddit
Did you go to del friscos grille? Or Del Friscos Steakhouse? There's a big difference between the two.
If it was the steakhouse, that sucks because it was definitely one of my most memorable meals I've had there going on Christmas with my family for years.
WesmokePax@reddit
It was Del Frisco’s Grille. I had no clue there was a difference because I had heard good things previously.
CharlieTeller@reddit
Ah. Yes. So Del Frisco's Grille definitely is just "okay." Sometimes they have good specials which are worth it, but it's pretty meh every time I've gone.
Now Del Frisco's steakhouse, whole other story. It's definitely pricey, but their steaks are pretty delicious and they have very nice family style sides you order for the table. It's comparable to a Perry's but better IMO.
My family used to go every year on Christmas Eve until my grandma passed. It was our really nice fancy family dinner for the year. Core memory of my grandma who never drank absolutely guzzling a chocolate martini we were supposed to be sharing. I didn't even get a sip before she finished the whole thing.
LowerSeat2712@reddit
I second this. Del Frisco's downtown has the worst service ever. The waiters are always hip checking the back of your chair while you are trying to eat. The food is okay, but not worth the price you are paying.
kgosfm@reddit
I went to the one in Addison (I think) a couple times in the early 90s, and it was awesome. I unfortunately haven't been there since, so it really could suck now. I remember the ribeye and the creamed spinach & mushrooms was outstanding. Off the chain.
Illustrious_Crab_664@reddit
Pecan Lodge. Shockingly bad. Given its reputation, I figured it must have just been an off day. Upon my second visit, it was even worse. I still can’t understand the gulf between the reputation that place seems to have vs my personal experiences there.

CharlieTeller@reddit
Again, what do you think "worst" means? Chuys is hardly a Dallas restaurant too. They're a chain all across the state and in multiple states.
For middle of the road tex mex, it's not bad. It's not authentic, but it's not bad. Jalapeno ranch is my favorite.
anon_97800@reddit
In my opinion, it's one of the worst. I felt sick after eating there which doesn't happen often. I didn't see anything mentioning no chains... You have the right to your opinion but it seems I'm not the only one that thinks it sucks

number231@reddit
Reading comprehension 101. And Mi Cocina does suck and that was before the owners became major maga knobs.
thephotoman@reddit
Yeah, there’s a LOT worse out there.
Mi Cocina’s problem is that it’s both ubiquitous and mid.
PumpkinCarvingisFun@reddit
Yeah, but value comes into play as well. They are twice as much as that same quality of food other places which drags their score down.
Sensitive_Primary309@reddit
There's definitely worse. I'm just naming the two because they're Dallas icons. You don't find either restaurant outside of Dallas. But sure Chili's is worse... not a Dallas restaurant.
Principle_Dramatic@reddit
The original Chilis was on Greenville and open until the mid 00s

martialartsvictim@reddit

RawrRawr83@reddit
You must be going to the wrong places. Mexican is much better in LA
martialartsvictim@reddit
I think part of the issue is that LA Mexican is very different than DFW’s Tex-Mex. I prefer the latter. But also it’s truly quite difficult to find a good quesadilla here. Open to recs!
Delicious_Hand527@reddit
I honestly don't find them that different, and most of the places my in-laws go are definitely tex-mex, and i'm not a big quesadilla guy - but Mario's Mexican Food & Cantina is definitely Tex-Mex if you are willing to drive to Huntington Beach.
corporate_subsidy@reddit
Wait...LA as in Los Angeles? Or LA as in Louisiana? Cause Los Angeles - you're nuts! Louisiana? Yeah, I get that.
martialartsvictim@reddit
Yep, Los Angeles. DFW is all around better cuisine than the overpriced crap served here
NintendogsWithGuns@reddit
There’s a difference between Tex-Mex, Cali-Mex, and Mexican. He’s talking about a Tex-Mex quesadilla, which California doesn’t do well. Also, the only people that bitch about Tex-Mex are white transplants that moved here to work in some boring ass finance job.

Torchys tacos because they were the only thing open close to where I was. Same with velvet and other tacos like it.
Federal-Hearing-7270@reddit
Who goes to those chains to eat tacos. This is all on you
CharlieTeller@reddit
Some people like variety. Sometimes I want authentic tacos from some hole in the wall in a gas station, sometimes I want a shitty taco bell taco, sometimes I want a weird fusion oversized mess from torchys. It's not a mystery.
Variety is good. Sure there will always be something "more authentic" or "better quality". Yeah, we get that. But sometimes you want a specific taste or combo of flavors.
I know McDonalds is low quality food. I know I have a local burger joint nearby that serves delicious burgers. But sometimes I just crave the combo of their fries, burger, and their coke with that big straw for the taste.

Whataburger. Not from here. I don't understand the hype.
CharlieTeller@reddit
I think people always get their expectations wrong with fast food burgers. Same with in and out. It's still, fast...food. The main thing that made Whataburger decent (location dependent) is that everything was cooked order by order. Also why the drive through was slow af. But when your other options are mcdonalds, wendys, jack in the box, burger king, and whataburger? Yeah I'll pick whataburger especially if it happened to be during breakfast hours.
BeachStrandBiker@reddit
This is a place that I grew up eating but am totally fine if I never eat there again.
Every location is disgusting and the food tastes ultra low quality.
JacksonDWalter@reddit
I haven’t found a decent Whataburger in Dallas yet. However, I’ve been to the one in Plano next to George Bush when the line for Mike’s Chicken was ridiculous. It was one of the best fast food burgers I’ve ever had. The bacon steakhouse double was just amazing. Hot, seasoned to perfection, dripping with grease, and the cheese was melty. Then I made the mistake of craving that and trying the same burger at the Skillman and NW Hwy Whataburger location and it was barely warm while lacking flavor. I tried the location near 75 on greenville on the way home from the office and it was just slightly better but still terrible.
skteitelman@reddit
I will say the Plano/bush one is excellent. It’s the closest one to me and I’ve gone a handful of times- usually after hours. Have had one of the best burgers from here. As a previous Whataburger employee I’ll say they’re doing the damn thing!
FineArugula2199@reddit
The secret to getting a good Whataburger is ordering one of their special burgers, not the usual #1. The specials are cooked to order and come out hot and fresh. The #1 is a patty that was cooked previously and usually cold and bad, unless you get lucky.

I was right there with you until recently and someone suggest the pork chop. It’s actually really good.

The salmon dish they just added to the menu is too.
spraynpray87@reddit
Go for brunch and get the chicken and waffles. Coffee is really good too.
NightGod@reddit
They're not the best place in the world, but worst in Dallas? That feels like a huge stretch
Veronica612@reddit
Their sister restaurant Sixty Vines is much better.
StargasmSargasm@reddit
This. My friends would always want to have brunch here and I just don't get it. I've been way more than twice and every time I'm like "Meh"
Mercy_Rule_34@reddit
went their last week, looked at the menu which has been stripped to bare bones, asked the waiter who said “oh it’s just seasonal changes.” Right…pulled pork is “out of season.” Hot garbage now. Shame, was so solid for so long.
hydrogenickooz@reddit
Really? Went a long time ago, one of my ex’s lied that place and I did too! Must have been about 4-6 years ago. Unfortunate to hear

Buffalo Wild Wings. Terrible service and food is a joke.
CharlieTeller@reddit
BWW USED to be good. But it's been a long time since then. I used to go pretty often around 2010-2015 and it was solid. Since then? Nope. Horrible.
OldTough9446@reddit
I quit going when they took away the buzztime trivia and poker playmakers
BosesMalosesMalone@reddit
This seems to be location dependent, because some of them are great, but the Dallas location AND Addison location have terrible service.
Lewisville, Irving, and Carrollton ones have always been solid.
xBiscuitz@reddit
Sickies when it was open for like 3 months
CharlieTeller@reddit
Did that close down already? It was open for a while. I remember it opening up in 2023 and it was still there when I left Dallas in 25 ish.
It was always dead in there though. Their menu had some strange stuff on it but I loved their little mashed potato bowl things.
BigWooly1013@reddit
I went once and we had the strangest waiter. She talked to us like she'd memorized a script, and she kept forgetting her lines. It was more than just nerves, and it almost seemed intentional the way she could not speak like a normal human being.
It was a casual business lunch and she kept trying to upsell us things like extra entrees. It didn't surprise us that there was only one other table there for the lunch rush that day.
xBiscuitz@reddit
Same experience! The food was sort of ok but the service was so bizarre every time. They forced me to sign up for a rewards program, and then when I tried to use it they took my phone into the kitchen for 10 minutes without warning because nobody there actually knew how to redeem it in their system.
nchs1120@reddit
Holy hell that was fast. Not necessarily to me, but I could imagine the name being a turnoff to some
sgtdumbass@reddit
Idk if it's the same, but there are two Sickies locations up in Omaha that my wife and I really enjoyed. They never got her sick with cross-contamination of gluten either. Sucks to hear that about the one down here.
mrezee@reddit
Same, I’ve been to a couple of them up in the Dakotas and the one in Vegas. They aren’t extraordinary, but they were solidly good. And fantastic happy hour specials.
bourbonstringcheese@reddit
I can't believe there are people who like Mi Cocina. It's literally awful.
CharlieTeller@reddit

I actually think their food is fine, but their management/ownership is truly the worst. I vowed never to give them another dime long ago.
Present-Rope-1749@reddit
I got food poisoning from them a couple years ago. Can't stomach eating there anymore
digitalquesarito@reddit
Good for margaritas but that’s it
Kanarakettii@reddit
It's the exact same food you can get at places like El Fenix, El Chico, Chuy's, or any number of random tex-mex spots across DFW but 3x the price because it's served in a faux bougie setting. And most of their locations aren't in very good shape anymore, so their prices are even more insulting.
BosesMalosesMalone@reddit
Vidorra has fallen off big time. Last few experiences with boomerjacks has been less than stellar too..
barbiemechanic@reddit
Every time I think of vidorra I think of when I went to the Addison location after the Barbie movie. But because it’s like half outside even in the middle of the restaurant I was sliding off my seat from sweat.
chichomeless@reddit
There’s a Vidorra opening in grapevine in a building that’s been so many different restaurant over the years
CycloneCowboy87@reddit
Vidorra has always been awful lol. I lived in Deep Ellum when it opened. After my second visit I decided I’d never go back. Their margaritas are good, but is anyone really willing to wait 45 minutes just to put in a drink order?
BosesMalosesMalone@reddit
That’s the thing too. I used to go with friends a bunch in 2022-2023ish and they had the best spicy margaritas. Then they changed the tequila they were using and the margs just tasted artificial. I asked the staff about it and they didn’t seem to really care.
Equal_Charge_1391@reddit
Hawaiian Bros Island Grill on Greenville. Terrible service and bad food.

Pietap near oaklawn, food is decent but the management sucks! They sit around on their laptops and boss the staff around. As a former waiter I notice the little things and I’m not a fan of them

Emergency_Basket_851@reddit

a_hockey_chick@reddit

Necessary-Act-1137@reddit
Based on my experience. There is a IHOP on 35 going south. Horrible customer service. It took like 45 minutes to get some pancakes and an omelet. It wasn't that busy either.
BeachStrandBiker@reddit
IHOP is fucking awful and I always get looked at like an elitist when I say that. It blows my mind people would eat this cafeteria food when there are so many other options.

Do NOT EVER eat at the downtown location. I've been in their kitchen.
CaughtALiteSneez@reddit

CFH75@reddit
El Fenix out here catching strays! It's basic Tex Mex man.
karma_time_machine@reddit

CaughtALiteSneez@reddit
Hey I thought I was the only one…I live abroad and whenever I visit home, that’s exactly what my Dad and I do.
I literally grew up on El Fenix, I love it. I also got my Latino husband to love it too - but it really depends on the location. Downtown and NW Highway ones are still very good.
CFH75@reddit
Yeah! Their prices are still decent and always have good service.
Big_District7505@reddit
I think El Fenix is how you say nasty in Spanish.
BigExamination542@reddit

It seems like everyone in this thread hates restaurants that are actually pretty good.
That said, Dickeys. Went to one location and it had mold on the ceiling, and the food sucked. Went to a different location to give it a second chance. You could probably dumpster dive to find better BBQ.
number231@reddit
I think for me it’s when certain restaurants are hyped to be institutions. When they don’t live up to expectations. You’re disappointment seems greater than if you’ve never heard of them.
Breauxmetheus@reddit
I better not see Pepe & Mito’s within a mile of this list…
number231@reddit
We’ve been once since it opened. It wasn’t bad. I think it suffers from too much hype.
cupcakewrangler@reddit
Best Fajitas!!!!
KelleyElsie@reddit
That would be sacrilegious.
Breauxmetheus@reddit
Exactly. It’s somewhere near the top of the very short list of hangs I miss about Dallas since escaping.
FellcallerOmega@reddit
Manny's Tex-Mex...I just don't understand how this place is always full. Every time I've gone because other people want to meet us there it has been an utter disappointment. When they just opened the one in front of my house I went to try it out and tried the most flavorless ceviche I've ever had which was awful.
I gave them a chance months later because I figured they had just opened and people needed training and whatnot. Their chorizo is ALSO flavorless and the flour tortillas feel like the pre-cooked store-bought ones you buy at Kroger which is an awful thing to say about a Mexican (or Tex-Mex) restaurant.
I think the ONLY things that it may have going for it are their drinks which aren't bad at all and their customer service. They're VERY attentive but unfortunately out of the 3 or 4 times I've gone to my location in the last 3 years all of them I felt utterly disappointed but hey, white people seem to love it so what do I know.
Worldly-Deer-1764@reddit
Has anyone tried the new Cityline location in Richardson?
rimjob_steve@reddit
I have. It’s extra bad. Service was horrible and I sat at the bar. And it seemed like the food was under a heat lamp forever. Sachse location is way better plus they have a decent patio.
CeleryKale@reddit
The sachse location is awful because of the patio... parents don't watch their children and kids will literally be hitting other patrons with balls and running around hiding under your table as you're trying to enjoy your meal. I cannot go to this location because of this. If this is you, watch your child and teach them how to behave.
FellcallerOmega@reddit
That's literally what my comment is about. I HATE the Sachse location. To be fair, the patio is a plus for me as my kid does like playing in it but they stay in the patio and don't take balls to bug people with. Not sure whose kids you've ran into but that sounds awful.
Worldly-Deer-1764@reddit
Dang how sad, I was excited that a new restaurant was taking over that spot
number231@reddit
They loosely share the brisket taco recipe from Mia‘s. You can order it and get the gravy if you ask. It’s not the same, but if you have to eat there, it’s the best thing.
joelwink@reddit
I love it (Richardson location). It's not the greatest, but it is comfort food for me. I usually get outvoted and we end up at Mi Cocina, which feels completely soulless in comparison.
CatteNappe@reddit
There are several locations, but the one close to us is the Mockingbird/Abrams corner. The first time or two we went it was "meh", but it was food and that was the purpose of our visit. We needed to eat, not "dine", and didn't expect it to live up to our preferred TexMex places. About the third visit it was pretty bad, but everybody has a down day, right? So the next visit was really, really bad. We will not go back.
permalink_save@reddit
They were not great when they opened but they've gotten better. We just went tonight and it wasn't amazing but it was far from bad too.
NJB9891@reddit
This location isn’t a restaurant, it’s a place to take the kids and throw slop at them while mom and dad drink. The food is absolutely hot garbage, yet my family goes at least once a month.
PenelopeJude@reddit
Mannys used to be really good. Not so much anymore.
BrightAardvark@reddit

medisamurai@reddit
the one on mockingbird is really bad but for some reason the one in heath is actually pretty solid.
the mockingbird one was the most bland mexican food ive ever eaten. the heath one had spice and big portions. Im not saying its the best but if mockingbird is a 1 heath is at least a 5.5
waitstaph@reddit
Manny’s used to be amazing, really fresh and they also made their own tortillas at one time. It’s hot garbage now.

Yes, the famous Dallas Whataburger.
Big_District7505@reddit
Whatacrapper
FlyinInOnAdc102night@reddit
To all the people who say whataburger, you are correct - they are all shitty in Dallas.
The secret to whataburger is to go out in the country. On a road trip outside of DFW, once you pass a truck stop or two, the whataburgers will be fire! Good service, relatively quick (for wb) and the food is actually made well and not just slopped together and then squished.
that-looks-fun@reddit
WB was top-tier until they were purchased by PE. Now it’s expensive af and the food is bad quality.
HailToTheThief225@reddit
Whataburger when it’s actually good is top tier fast food, but it’s usually mediocre at best. Also feels like it’s corporate policy for the drive thru experience to take at least 20 minutes. Rarely have I gone through a drive thru that actually goes fast

Gloria's. Don't get me wrong, the original on Davis (before the renovated fire house) was absolutely phenomenal. But that was a long time ago.

I stopped going after they chart wanted to charge admission to come eat because they had a band
lil_gingerale@reddit
Maybe it’s the location? The one in Garland is great and we go pretty often. Love their carne asada.
texascoupleTA@reddit
We have literally been dozens of times to (I think) every location in DFW and it's fire every time.
Kids meals are excellent value. Carne asada meal is fucking incredible. Black beans and salsa at the table. Ceviche trio. Margs.
Fucking incredible every time.
HoustonIV@reddit
Cool. They asked for opinions. My opinion is vastly different from yours. Again, aside from the real, original location, my opinion is that Gloria's tastes like expensive air. Carne Asada is flavorless, black beans are bland, salsa is okay if you add salt. Ceviche trio is okay, sometimes too rubbery... I swear they add yesterday's ceviche to today's. Margs are good, but they used to be so much better. When they had the original location on Davis in Oak Cliff, that little house, you could watch them cut up fresh mango to add to the margaritas. Fresh strawberries in the margaritas. Dude, Gloria's used to be amazing.
But if you like higher priced El Fenix, you do you, bruv.
My opinion stands: it is shit.
Rakebleed@reddit
Be for real everybody is just going for the margaritas.
sobersuburbanmom@reddit
K but the carne asada is so good But yeah the margs are top tier
allinyabutt2@reddit
I was at the one in Arlington last week. No bueno.
ArmWarm8743@reddit
I agree on this one. Someone strongly recommended it when I first moved to DFW and was looking for authentic Mexican food. Apparently their taste was bad AND they didn’t realize that not all Latin food is Mexican. 😂
sobersuburbanmom@reddit
The one in Garland is pretty good IMO but maybe I have plebian tastes. Service is usually great there
Delicious_Hand527@reddit
Cafe Brazil. Last time I went it was a serious step down from IHOP, and the service was terrible. That place used to be pretty good!

Uncle Julio’s
jpblackout@reddit
20 years ago it was amazing. Now it’s hot trash
WET318@reddit
Was it amazing 20 years ago, or is it that our expectations have changed? I think about this a lot with things that I used to love.
TheFeedMachine@reddit
Uncle Julios got sold to private equity, changed everything up, got ran into the ground, and got sold again because they had so much debt. If you went in the last year, don't bother. If you went in the time between it first got sold and when it got sold again, it may be worth trying again. New ownership has improved a bit, but not where it was at before it first sold to private equity.
number231@reddit
So that explains it. PE ruin everything. Uncle Julio’s used to have fajitas on par with Pappasito’s in the 00’s.

heretomeetthedog@reddit
The Cafe Laredo in Love Field. Why is everything covered in warm sour cream? How can Mexican food in this city be so bad? I would rather have the full Fuel City experience with meth heads badgered me for spare change than whatever passes for food at that restaurant.
But then Dallas weather happens, you’re stuck for hours with hundreds of other people waiting for a flight and are too hungry to wait longer and think “how bad could it really be? Surely, I’ve exaggerated this in my head.” No, friends, it is just that bad.

PocketGddess@reddit
I completely agree—I’ve been there ONCE and absolutely never again. I was at the Uptown location and the service was absolutely terrible. The food was barely edible and extremely expensive.
What made even angrier is that they don’t accept cash and do NOT let you know ahead of time via signage or any sort of note on the menu.
ReadyFromTheGecko@reddit
I went two weeks ago to the Las Colinas location and the drinks were fine and dinner was not good. The salmon was flavorless and the veggies were barely edible. We were there at closing and I did not like how they did their closing duties. Multiple servers came by and were flashing bright ass lights all around tables and the floor. Assuming they were looking for crumbs or sticky areas, but they flashed my eyes with this light at least 5 times. Then the manager came in and was so picky with them. I appreciate cleanliness but thought it was a bit much.
Moneyley@reddit
Damn, I love this one. I dont go there too much but I love their pork chop, ironically, the salmon has been on point 2 of 2 times and the arepas.. the bite on them is sharp but refreshing. I mostly eat at the bar. Not sure if it makes a difference. If you go again, I hope they treat you better and your food comes out the way its served for me
redd_hott@reddit
That’s pretty standard restaurant management it sounds like. Although closing duties shouldn’t be that intrusive to someone dining in imo.

CatteNappe@reddit
What have you got against your aunt and uncle? There's much better food to be had lots of places, BBQ or otherwise, and a number of them have lovely patios, too.
Veronica612@reddit
I went there once for dinner then two other times for happy hours someone else was hosting. The outdoor dining area is so nice. It’s a tragedy that the food is so awful.
mixem143@reddit
Food is mid and their parking/valet setup absolutely sucks.
earthtojacob@reddit
As the company who runs the valet there, it absolutely does suck and there's no easy way to make it any better. We are shuttling valets a mile down the road in Garland Road traffic. I wish it was better for both customers and valets alike so I apologize if you've ever had a bad experience there during peak Saturday/Sunday times.
mixem143@reddit
I appreciate your honest reply as it shows you care. I definitely meant no offense to you or your team. You weren’t dealt the best hand when it comes to space and layout of the parking lot nor the lack of other parking areas closer to the restaurant.

Half this list is people wanting to sound good by shitting on mediocre to decent places. Yall must not know what bad food is if this is the "worst" places yall have gone. Even mico, no it's not necessarily great dining but I've had way, way worse. The worst I can remember, I forget the name and they aren't open anymore, but steak sandwich but with thick ass pieces that were tough to bite into, just shitty sandwich all around, and the ketchup was mostly pepper. It’s funny, we moved in within walking distance like 5 years back and tried it once and just didn’t like it.

It’s certainly not the best Mexican (or even Tex-Mex) in town, but it’s also not as bad as people make it out to be. I certainly think it’s better than MiCo, not that it’s a high bar.
It’s a decent enough option for being so close to

Back in 2021-22 they were running a takeout burger and fries special for like $8. Especially from a steakhouse, that was one of the most bland burgers I’ve ever had.
