Hi all, I’m looking into buying this 1953 Colt 1911 (38 Super) Wanting to start my collection with this one but I want to know how much it’s actually worth. It has “COLT 1911 MOTHER OF
PEARL GRIPS”

Where the hell do you even get 38 super ammo?
testprimate@reddit
More importantly, how long until ICE shows up at your house after you buy some?

Probably a digit short there, 6000 pesos is only US$344.

Personally I would never purchase a 1911 that wasn't chambered for .45acp soo the value to me is slim, but damn that's clean. 👌

Guns that hold their value best, are the ones not in common caliber
RunPerroRun@reddit
Mother of pearl grips alone go for around $1,000 at least in SoCal

Pearl handle? Patton would disapprove but who cares. If you like it it's worth what you would pay very few guns turn out to be investments. Of it's with it to you buy it and enjoy it.

Colt has a following for sure. There are also plenty of others who call them junk. Either way, I cant deny that I love me some colts. Rifles, semi auto pistols, and the highly coveted snake revolvers which I own. Not sure if you are a veteran, or if you've made a purchase yet, but we would love the chance to earn your business on any Colt your heart desires. Our site is www.31m-armory.com. We don't charge shipping or credit card fees, and if you are a veteran, we offer an additional 6% discount.

Would you say it’s a COLT following? I’m sorry, I’ll see myself out.

Ultimately it’s worth what you are willing to pay. Old Colts hold their value. I wouldn’t be surprised if it was priced north of 2k.
That looks super clean, almost too clean for 75+ years old. It’s not impossible to find them in original condition like that tho. I’m ok with a refinish as long as the sale price reflects that. Do you know if it’s been refinished? Also, I believe Colt scalloped the frames behind the trigger well before 53 and that from looks more like an early frame. But you have the short trigger and arched mainspring housing like an A1. Can you get the firing pin stop off and see if the serial number on the slide matches the frame?
I know enough to be dangerously and I could be wrong with some of what I said. You’re better off asking at a colt or 1911 page. Those guys know their stuff!!

Looks scalloped in 3rd picture. Shiny finishes can make it difficult to see sometimes.

Based on other fancy colts I see at my LGS, I’d say between $1500 & $3000. Is it new? Or used? That’ll also make a decent difference. Otherwise you could check out GunBroker and see what people are selling them for, that’ll give you a good range on what to expect.

The OP says 1953 so I’m going to say it’s used.
