1979-1985: A Fashion Retrospective or But MOM! EVERYONE Has It!!!

I often see posts over in Vintage Fashion saying “I decided to go 80’s today!” Or whatever. Happily, every once in a while, someone actually nails it, which is what happened in a post I saw earlier today. Usually the individual has basically done a Stranger Things homage. To be fair- it hits pretty close. I’m Gen Jones/Gen X. There’s a vast assortment of styles from 1979 to 1990. I put together two posts worth of a few grabs from a search, that represent the things I just had to have, from 1979 to about 1984. Bonus collage at the end, for the nostalgia!
I’m curious what was trending where you were in the world, for those middle to high school years- I was on the Pacific Coast and in the interior of Canada during my Angsty Teenage Days.

California's Central Coast, here. The rainbow thongs, the grippy Koala, the folding comb/brush and the feathered roach clip were in my personal inventory, and that's it. But I'm a guy. Big trends in early 80s middle school were OP or Izod clothing, Mexican ponchos, and (weirdly) MLB branded batter's helmets as daily wear. Usually A's or Giants, being in the Bay Area. Trendy footwear was pretty much just thongs (flip flops, if you will), Van's slip-ons or Converse All Stars. It was a beach community, after all

If this was fashionable, I am glad I wasn't.
Only think I had was the moon boots, and that that age I didn't care if it was fashionable or not I just wanted to stay warm.
