Is ‘The Range’ one of Britains untidiest stores?

I was in one of their branches today, and it has to be one of the most neglected shops the nation has. Random stock on (and off) pallets just dumped in aisles, that random flatpack furniture section that showcases their awful cheap ‘90’s Argos’ style furniture selection
And every ceiling tile manky with damp - the toilets were revolting too.
There’s even a cafe in there that just looks so messy, and seldom has customers.
It’s like an even messier version of B&M (if that’s possible?
Are there any decent ones around?

My nearest Primark is far worse than my nearest Range… my nearest Primark will often have more clothes on the floor than on racks.
NoCommunication7@reddit
One year they sold shirts with tie chains, i really wanted one but literally everyone of them was broken
Damn kids, if you don't like it don't buy it, don't break it, and loss prevention do your job! still loss even if they don't steal it
New_Crow_8206@reddit
Never been in a TK Maxx?
NoCommunication7@reddit
Good shop, bought a lot of exotic clothing from there i otherwise wouldn't have been able to find or afford, as good as new after steaming
Like a charity shop but you're not fighting against people who sell everything decent on ebay
I kinda miss their jumble sale days, these days they're a bit too restrained in how they sell things
ThePedanticPheasant@reddit
Why was TK Maxx so messy? No matter which store I visited in different parts of the country there was always messy shelves and stock strewn across the floor
New_Crow_8206@reddit
Because it is basically a jumble sale. It might have something you want, but you need to move around a lot of stuff you don't to find it.
maevewiley554@reddit
Trying to shop in Tk maxx gives me a headache. Some branches tend to be better of organising items neatly.
spikewilliams2@reddit
They used to look like a jumble sale but I think they are neater nowadays.
NoCommunication7@reddit
Home Bargains, the degens who shop in there break everything and leave broken pieces of product everywhere
One-Ad853@reddit
The range near me is quite neat but always has a distinct smell of sweat by the entrance
perishingtardis@reddit
Exact same ... my local Range in Ballymena stinks of BO continually.
TheBluePapaBear@reddit
Primark has entered the chat.
fgalv@reddit
The most chaotic energy. Always too hot too. I feel like I’m having a panic attack when I’m in there
CertainJudgment5045@reddit
Zara is so much worse than Primark imo
HeWhoHasABeard@reddit
Main problem with the range is having to check all of a specific item to check if one isn’t damaged
HorrorAccomplished78@reddit
Have you never been to a Co-op?
EntrepreneurAway419@reddit
Asda is stinking
white1984@reddit
One of the reasons why Asda is failing IMHO, badly kept stores. It got hugely worst since the Issa brothers took over and it has continued under private equity.
bahumat42@reddit
Imagine that, loading a company with debt makes it less succesful, crazy stuff isn't it.
Starboard_1982@reddit
Absolutely agree. I have never been in a pleasant Asda.
LinuxMage@reddit
Not sure if you've been to the midlands recently, but we have some very nice Asda stores here, all purpose built, very new and tidy inside.
blumizers@reddit
No, my Range is neat
Not_A_Toaster_0000@reddit
Must be at the other end of the Range
quite_acceptable_man@reddit
Our local one is a former Homebase so is relatively new. I can't say I found it particularly untidy.
TedBurns-3@reddit
Love that you tarnished the whole chain based on... Your experience of one store 🙄
doctorgibson@reddit
OP might have prior experience of The Range, and is just using their experience the other day as an example
jeminar@reddit
It's a well known ploy to look messy like a jumble sale. Psychologically, people think jumble sale and bargain prices, with the possibility of finding something that accidentally got mispriced that wasn't noticed.
Think: Lidl Aldi middle aisle, Primark, TK Maxx
Sidders1993@reddit
I'd say Savers and Primark give it a run for its money.
Opposite_Radio9388@reddit
A huge one opened near me and it's always a state. The building is falling apart and the stock always needs facing up and is often in the wrong place (i.e. you take it to the till and it's a completely different price).
nintendofan2_0@reddit
I absolutely cannot stand the range. It’s so eerie in there and the prices are always either a huge bargain or crazy there’s no middle ground (that’s if the item actually has the price displayed.)
Dyalikedagz@reddit
The one in Kirkstall, Leeds is clean and tidy. No complaints.
BambiMonroe@reddit
Our usual branch is actually really well organised and clean. I visited Burton on Trent’s branch a while back on a side mission, and Jesus wept that place is where the soul of retail goes to die. It was the damp-stained styrofoam ceiling tiles, the random buckets catching roof leak drips, the absolutely baffling miscellany of random items on shelves. It genuinely made me feel quite depressed.
LinuxMage@reddit
Go a few miles east of there to Leicestershire, and the ranges around here are much nicer.
LinuxMage@reddit
We have a few ranges around here, all set in retail parks and relatively new/renovated buildings. Most of them are cramped (seems to be a layout thing), but clean and tidy for the most part.
Gullible-Yam-8098@reddit
Not like that at all in my local one.
QuiteFrankE@reddit
I was put off the range when I witnessed a dog cock it’s leg and pee on some cushions on the shelves. When I told an employee they just shrugged and said dogs are allowed in now.
flyingfoxtrot_@reddit
I love The Range because they have some proper random stuff. I saw a tiny pot of clear slime with a depressed-looking plastic fish in it. I bought him, obviously. He looked sad.
Remote-Pool7787@reddit
I hate the range. Narrow aisles, empty shelves and impossible to find anything
Thestolenone@reddit
I went to The Range in Doncaster a couple of years ago and it was clean and tidy and the cafe was clean.
AndromedaFire@reddit
I have an odd suspicion with the range. Everytime I go there is these cement dog garden ornaments. They’re all over the shop, never with a price tag of shelf label. I once went to the section where all the cement garden ornaments were and there’s none there. What are they doing with these dogs? Is it some kind of trick? I don’t understand how they can put them out without tags in 50 places and not in the place they go.
This has also started happening with chrome bulldogs.
Sophyska@reddit
All of my local Range stores constantly have cages/pallets/heaps of stock in and amongst the shelves. They seem to be in a permanent state of transitioning and moving everything around.
nathderbyshire@reddit
I like the range, it's never been that bad. My local Dunelm on the other hand looks like a charity shop got bombed, it's absolutely dreadful
Dottipants@reddit
Someone took a shit on the shelf of my local store last week. Police posted about the "Criminal damage" and everything....so yeah it isnt great in that specific store!
Character_Team_2651@reddit
Was it the Ashford one??? That's in an old John Lewis and it's actually shocking what a dump it is
retailface@reddit
My branch is fine. Everything is where it's supposed to be, it's well stocked, most things have shelf edge tickets, I've got no complaints.
WelshBen@reddit
Cardiff Culverhouse Cross one is always pretty much pristine.
CmdretteZircon@reddit
Yeah it’s always in good nick. Needs more people at the till though lol
Inevitable-Height851@reddit
The one in Brynmawr is well run
knittingkate@reddit
My local Range is always neat, tidy and clean.
I think it’s just yours.
290Richy@reddit
Nope. Boyes' is.
The only place where you'll find wool next to the mayonnaise whilst having an 80s store vibe about it.
ValenciaHadley@reddit
My local Range is pretty decent and usually has a fabulous selection of seasonal crap.
Scottish_squirrel@reddit
Just yours bro
Onlyfriends0936@reddit
Mine closed down. So you're winning...
Timely_Egg_6827@reddit
Sounds like you were in a bad branch. Local Range to me has a very nice clean cafe with lovely staff. Toilets decent. Stock about same as B&M and Homebase in terms of tidyiness except the corner where storage containers go to die. And that is in a very run down town.
merla_blue@reddit
My nearest one isn't like that, no.
Competitive_Rub_9590@reddit
My range is pretty good tbh
TheBestBigAl@reddit
I wouldn't say it's the messiest, but it is the biggest offender for the thing that pisses me off just in shops: not having price tags on items.
I swear that 80% of the shop has no labels on the shelves.
lucky-cat-sees-stars@reddit
My local few are an absolute mess and disgusting
Recent_Fig118@reddit
My local The Range is quite well organised - my previous local The Range where I used to live was also.
Sounds like OP just has a very particularly untidy The Range.
Flavourifshrrp@reddit
My range is mostly neat, stuff maybe crammed a bit more in than most stores but for the prices they charge compared to other stores, I will take it.
Most_Lingonberry_409@reddit
The one in Reading is Devan
