I’m looking to get Starlink for the house and it comes with the free mini I was gonna use it for gaming. I know the full size is good but how’s the mini and would it be good if placed in the truck or would it need to be outside

Mini isn't bad but the standard is a lot better as far as connection strength and speed goes. I just set mine on my top bunk pointing at the roof when I'm on my 34 and once it's aligned it works great. I also have a raspberry pi 5 that I run speedify on to bond it with my phone hotspot so I can game or stream without getting disconnected, although if I really dial in the alignment the starlink by itself is usually pretty solid but I'll still get a few disconnects every hour from online matches.
Between the roam 50gb plan, speedify, and my mobile hotspot I'm paying about 115$ after taxes for an internet connection that works anywhere and is rock solid. If I go nuts with bandwidth that's more like 215$ but most months I only use like 100gb or less split between both connections, and if I max out both of them individually I basically have a high speed data cap of 250gb.
If you wanted to go nuts you could get starlink unlimited roam and towerhop and a raspberry pi with speedify, and you would have a rock solid like 350-500mbps connection with no cap anywhere in the country, but you'd be paying 260$ a month for just the internet and all the hardware would run you about a grand to get started.

"I bought a mini for $300 just threw it on to the dash works great. I also have a standard model i thought I would mount to the rear like in this photo. but the mini works fine and now I am stuck with standard one. the mini is worth every penny, one cable and it has a built in router. also i have the roam plan for $50 gives me 50gb. I can also just pause the service for $5 a month and still get slow internet enough to watch 480p video and browse and email."- From a user called yes-dissapointment 5 months back.
