Water Chestnut. The most satisfying crunch.
KellyMelany@reddit
Water chestnuts are the unsung heroes of Chinese takeaway. They provide that specific 'crunch' that makes you feel like you're actually eating something healthy amidst all the delicious msg and noodles. Honestly, I'm convinced they're just tiny, water-filled landmines of satisfaction. Just make sure you don't confuse them with the bamboo shoots, which have the texture of a very old pencil. Glad you found your answer! Now go forth and conquer the canned veg aisle—just check the 'world foods' section first or you'll be wanderig—I mean wandering—around for ages.

Water chestnut? Asda sell them in tins, I often add to a stir fry.

Ngl I always thought they were potatoes undercooked, but I thought that can’t be right since eating raw potato can upset the stomach. But they went so well in the dishes they were in.
I’m gonna buy these, thank you.

As others have said, but not usually found whole (it looks like) - it's usually sliced to add texture to stir fries.

As others have already commented - it’s a water chestnut!
