Golf memberships in Dallas?

Hello,
Wondering if anyone can provide some info on local courses/clubs that offer memberships with initiation fees in the $1,000-$5,000ish range. Maybe a course/club like this doesn’t exist, but I’m still not too familiar with the area so not sure.
I’m a lifetime golfer, I play to around an 11 handicap - although haven’t been keeping one recently, as I haven’t played a ton in my year and half in Dallas so far.
Any help here would be great!

IMO there are no clubs in DFW that are actually worth what you will pay. The $2k - $6k initiation places aren’t worth it IMO. They spread their tee times out like a muni course and the course conditions aren’t much better. Add in the ridiculous monthly spend you have to make and you are better off just paying for premium courses. There are much better courses in Ft Worth BTW.

Agree with this take I think. What are some of your preferred public options?
BadGolferDallas@reddit
Waterchase, Fossil Creek, Hawks Creek, Texas Star, Pecan Hollow, Texas Rangers... to name a few.

Your best best is a Arcis Players' membership at one of the semi-private golf clubs. https://texas.arcisgolf.com/arcis-players-membership

Curious to see other people’s responses here. I have done a lot of research here and have struggled to find a good option like what you’re looking for. I live around White Rock for reference.
First off you have your true prestige and or legacy clubs: Lakewood, DCC, Royal Oaks, etc. These have massive wait lists and initiation fees in the six figs. Not what you’re looking for obviously.
Then you have your second tier, many of which are not true “equity” based clubs but also offer cheaper options. If you want to stay near the city itself, these are still pricey. DAC and Canyon Creek are still $50K+ initiation fees. This seems crazy to me for what many consider “starter clubs” and you don’t even get equity for your money.
To find cheap options, you gotta be willing to join somewhere that is a far drive from Dallas itself, or that has so many members it’s barely a club at all and you don’t really get better access to tee times.
For the time being I think I’m sticking with just seeing what good tee times I can get at the public courses I enjoy.
Where exactly do you live? There’s some much better options if you live up north near Frisco.

This is really insightful - appreciate you taking the time to write this out.
I live in Uptown, so I’ve been playing some of the Dallas public courses - Luna Vista, Cedar Crest etc. based on what folks are saying here, I’ll probably stick with tee time picking!

Hackberry Creek or Brookhaven are what you're looking at in the price range you gave. I'd give an upper hand to Brookhaven if you have kids
Its-Brucey@reddit
Are these worthwhile if you live in Dallas itself and it’s going to be a 30+ min drive? If a country club isn’t actually convenient I feel like it loses a lot of the benefit of paying for membership.
locodfw@reddit
Too many good munis in the northern suburbs. Membership not worth it.
RoyalRenn@reddit
Which ones would you recommend? The best I've found is Watters Creek.
locodfw@reddit
Sherril park, pecan hollow, any of the firewheel courses
Siew6899@reddit
Watters Creek is also a gem for the price.
Known_Ad7234@reddit (OP)
Interesting. I’ll give those a look!

I’ve played a few of the Dallas public courses - but none up north. Any recs on what to play?
AccordingFox9168@reddit
Brookhaven
Anti_accountant@reddit
I’d look at brook hollow, trinity forest, or northwood dependent on what part of town you’re in
HashKing@reddit
Lol, 250k+ initiation fees at those CCs

Fuck Golf!
Womens_Lefts@reddit
Yeah fuck outdoor sports I’d rather they take the grass and turn it into more strip centers.

Could we mix in a giant, abandoned parking lot as well?

Hackberry Creek is your best bang-for-the-buck

What does initiation/monthly dues look like for full golf?

Clubs of Prestonwood - Hills course. $6k initiation and $600/month. You get access to both Prestonwood clubhouses but can’t play the Creek (the better course). Hackberry Creo has similar. Part of Invited network. Add extra $50 a month and can play Brookhaven and Trophy Club.

If you can swing it this is the best deal for quality golf in Dallas.
pdxraised92@reddit
are you looking for private, semi-private, etc?
Known_Ad7234@reddit (OP)
Any options really. Are there good options for either?
pdxraised92@reddit
You will not find a true private for under 40-50k now at minimum. Some semi-privates exist but at that level you're better off just playing public courses, all you get at semi-privates are the ability to book a time earlier than other people for that single course.
Known_Ad7234@reddit (OP)
Maybe I worded this poorly - private/semi-private/other - doesn’t matter. I looked at the public courses in Dallas, and it didn’t seem like there was any sort of unlimited play membership or anything.
For reference, back in Ohio, the local public course was as pretty nice and offered an unlimited play membership for around $2k a year. Maybe I was just spoiled!
MeatCrack@reddit
Some of them might offer a membership, but good luck snagging a tee time. All the munis are packed constantly on nice days
Emotional-Loss-9852@reddit
Diamond Oaks country club is under $5k in initiation fees.
Curtismanman@reddit
If you’re under 40, some clubs offer young exec memberships, but they come with some stipulations
joefwtx@reddit
I’ve been going here more than anywhere once I stop being able to afford my normal course fees.
