I don't think it will be the elves in LOTR, knowing humans it will be the dark elves in 40k. We would probably become hedonistic and more sadistic. I don't understand the desire to achieve even functional immortality. Nothing would matter because you live either an extremely long time or forever. It's not like people would want to change the world for the better like some try and fail to right now. Yes fail because every-time we take a step towards improving things, some narcissistic force drags us farther back.
Also, we live under capitalism. This would guarantee enslavement by the forces who have power. You want a new sleeve? Well it will cost you or you can always get a loan for that new body (altered carbon). You need treatment? How many years are you willing to give up to pay to live longer. Make sure you secure your soul!
To be honest i skipped around the video because i wasn't going to watch or listen to a semi sentient dollar store mannequin tech bro with his overpriced leather jensen jacket and his obvious flex watch. Tech bros are out of touch with reality and believe in the bad parts of cyberpunk or dystopian stories where people live forever as good. Animals die and like or not we are animals. Life is not good now and what makes you think immortality is going to make it better? Also dying is my retirement plan, don't fuck this up.

What if we don't have money in 25 years due to superabundance from robot manufacturing? Also you should check out the book by martin hagglund on living forever - he has a philosophical argument as to why it's a bad idea.
Glittering-Tea-2221@reddit
Couldn’t think of anything worse than living to 120 years or more.
Different_Guess_2061@reddit (OP)
u depressed bro? what if life was good?
Glittering-Tea-2221@reddit
Not depressed and not a bro😉 Very happy for others to live as long as possible, and of course the science behind it is fascinating.

There may be a shortage of many things but dumb shit on the internet isn't one of them.

This thread addresses overpopulation, a fraught but important issue that attracts disruption and rule violations. In light of this we have lower tolerance for the following offenses:
Racism and other forms of essentialism targeted at particular identity groups people are born into.
Bad faith attacks insisting that to notice and name overpopulation of the human enterprise generally is inherently racist or fascist.
Instructing other users to harm themselves. We have reached consensus that a permaban for the first offense is an appropriate response to this, as mentioned in the sidebar.
This is an abbreviated summary of the mod team's statement on overpopulation, view the full statement available in the wiki.
The following submission statement was provided by /u/Different_Guess_2061:
Casey Handmer argues that life extension and longevity medicine is the only answer to plummeting birthrates around the world. Every rich society in history develops a lopsided population where the total fertility rate is below replacement, and we finally have a promise of a solution to this vexing problem.

What a joke. 😂
Different_Guess_2061@reddit (OP)
you think he's joking but it's gonna happen bro
BellaRyder2505@reddit
Humans can not stop or end death. It's a joke to think we can. 😂
Different_Guess_2061@reddit (OP)
we can def extend lifespans, just look at vaccines and sanitation...
BellaRyder2505@reddit
All humans are going to die eventually and nothing or no one can stop that.
Different_Guess_2061@reddit (OP)
maybe, but we can postpone it and cherish life as a gift by extending it. live expectancy used to be in the 30s now it is in the 80s in many countries. Why not 120?
BellaRyder2505@reddit
Yes but that doesn't mean not ever dying.
Different_Guess_2061@reddit (OP)
That's not what he says if you watch the video. he talks about radically extending lifespans and 40 being the new 80. not dying is a diff thing
