Looking to purchase my first rife if you had the choice what would you pick and why ?

How/why did you narrow it down to those two for your first rifle? Answers to that may also narrow down the choice. Of those two, Mk18 is obvious choice even though the MXC seems like an interesting option for those who already have some ARs.

Honestly it's just what they have in stock and around the same price range also the nearest place to me. And trying to get an Ar before the new law happens here in Colorado. They also have a ddm4 v7 cheaper but I've heard there reliable ? If you had 2800$ price range what do you recommend
WillBrink@reddit
I wouldn't drop that kinda $ for a first ever rifle. DD makes excellent although pricy ARs, the Sig is more a niche rifle full of proprietary parts. By most accounts, it's a good gun but I wouldn't recommend going that direction. AR platform allows way more after market options, etc. You're unlikely to go wrong with anything from DD, but for far less, you have a lot of great choices, spend the rest on ammo and a course! A full 1k less, give or take, BCM, Colt, FN, and a bunch of others people can list here for you for around 1200-1500 $ that will be a great first AR that will run all day and all night. The market is flood with great AR options these days, I tend to default to legacy brands with long term experience making ARs. That narrows things down considerably.

Sounds good thanks for the advice. And yeah everyone's telling me to buy lowers and get a ar before it changes in a few months because it will be a huge process to obtain one after it goes into affect.
WillBrink@reddit
I don't follow the CO law, but if grabbing a lower covers the future issues, that makes sense, and then you can take your time deciding on the upper. But, or, for the $ you were able to spend, you have enough for a complete rifle from some of the brands I listed and a lower to hold onto and add upper some other time. Win win.

People hate Sig but won’t admit that the AR15 is starting to fall off in terms of modernity that the Spear LT has attempted to fix. My honest answer is the Spear, as reluctant as I am to give them my money. But they make a good rifle. I carry the P365XL every day and trust it with my life. I use their optics on multiple guns and they’ve never let me down.
It’s an expensive “first rifle” but it’s good out of the box. Maybe a bit of an oddball pick but I’d choose it over any 10” AR unless I really needed to capitalize on OAL. In which case I wouldn’t even use 556 for that purpose anyway.

I get the hate on sig atm but not gonna lie i love the mcx i have both the heavy and the LT in 300blk
The mk18 is a beast of a rifle
So my thoughts being a first rifle i would say a full 16 would be a better idea to learn with and not deal with pistol/nfa rules out of the gate BUT if your determined to stick to these two,
The mk18 in 556 would be the smarter option being its a standard ar platform so you get all of those benefits of ease of upgrading small thing cause really there isnt much to upgrade besides the charging handle and muzzle device and buffer weights to smooth her out
After that if you want to branch out to the more non traditional stuff then go mcx lt in either 556 or 300blk i love the mcx controls and the shape of the trigger but the charging handle is a joke a immediate change out and yes people are gonna talk about the QC issues of past, i personally haven’t had any on mine but if you get one just have the store check over the torque specs and you should be good to go
Last thing as well the sig flash hider is awful to remove so just throwing that out there give it to a store with a smith over doing it yourself some come off easy others you will be cutting it off

MK18 hands down
Mamba248mopar@reddit (OP)
What are the main differences ? New to firearms
throwaway11675@reddit
MK18 is a milspec AR15 so it’s compatible with any milispec part and it’s from a good company but with the MCX it has proprietary parts and SiGs questionable QC
f22raptoradf@reddit
MK18 is a bit more than milspec AR; its a short barreled rifle with a 10.3" barrel. Depending on mod, it can have a Knights armament quad rail or a Daniel defense RIS II rail (this is the goat). To run a mk18 upper, you have to either run it as a pistol, or SBR it with the ATF. Most civi ARs are not built to those specific standards, and most do not require the hoops that running a SBR or the sacrifices of running an AR pistol
Diligent-Parfait-236@reddit
A full length rifle.
Starting off with a mk18 is a good way to develop a flinch.
HeughJanus@reddit
only thing sig has going for it is a bufferless build. all parts in comparison are 3x as much on average as milspec and comparable in quality at best

Never sig
