Will follow up with mag deets. Not a bad play if anyone has a line on a 9mm conversion barrel.
rtscaptain_RDDTW@reddit
New brass 40 S&w can be had for 26cpr; I’m not finding much brass new 9mm for much cheaper.
Always good to keep a 40 around for times of uncertainty as historically the ammo is always around and not really subject to the gouging
Dry_Distribution_628@reddit
The route I went was to buy some .40 for my 10mm if I need practice ammo or just get very desperate. I am in the no .40 crowd because 10mm was significantly better enough for me to buy one over all the 9mm I have. But when I realized my Glock 40 MOS shoots 40 just as well as 10mm I started to keep that in my ammo reserves. Plus all the extra barrel length and slide weight makes the 40 cal ammo shoot lighter than 9mm out of that pistol.
TheRealSchifty@reddit
I work at an FFL. .40 S&W was the last thing left on our shelves during the COVID ammo panic. We did eventually run out, but by the time we did we started getting restocks of the other calibers, and more .40 not long after that.
It's almost like people would rather have nothing than a .40 lol. It's legitimately a great caliber, I don't understand.
Dr_thri11@reddit
40 just doesn't really do anything better than 9mm and usually costs more. Don't get me wrong these are great deals if you want a glock in your collection, or want a cheap very reliable gun. But I'd probably go 9mm if I were buying my first handgun and wouldn't really consider a 40 unless I came across an excellent deal.
Arkele@reddit
Is this not an excellent deal?
Dr_thri11@reddit
It is but you're asking why no one shoots 40 and the answer its more expensive and worse than 9mm. But yeah folks should grab these police trade ins if they want a glock for the price of a taurus.
Ketch451@reddit
How is .40 “worse than 9mm”? You already noted it’s more expensive, so, other than expense, how is .40 ammo “worse than 9mm”?
Dr_thri11@reddit
More recoil with more or less equivalent ballistics.
Arkele@reddit
I’m not the OP, I was just ripping through comments and wanted to make sure it was BIN for a range toy.
Dr_thri11@reddit
Yeah they seem to occasionally pop up at this price. Probably won't find a glock in decent shape any cheaper.
nanananananabatdog@reddit
Why don't you understand?
People have their ideal secondary weapon in 9mm. Then many others also have a ccw compact in 9mm, and a lot have a home defense handgun at home in 9mm. Marginal differences in performance between the two calibers.
Add to that the fact that PCCs are increasingly popular, in guess what caliber? My life is so much simpler now that I've streamlined things down to 4 calibers that I actually shoot.
TheRealSchifty@reddit
I don't understand why people are so averse to .40 S&W. 9mm is more popular, for good reason, but people act like owning a .40 is going to give you cancer or something.
It's good to have some diversity in calibers in case of an ammo shortage like I mentioned. .40 S&W pistols also about the cheapest to buy used so there's little excuse not to have one IMO.
Abject_Egg_194@reddit
There's lots of videos and testing that explain this. .40 S&W has snappier recoil in exchange for minimal performance improvement in ballistics gel. Add onto this that in normal circumstances .40 S&W ammo is more expensive and it's easy to see why it's not popular.
You make a decent point that you can pick up .40 S&W guns used for really cheap and so maybe it works out to a good deal for someone who doesn't shoot much or someone who shoots so much that they are willing to spend $200-300 to have a gun that they can more easily source ammo for during a shortage.
Ketch451@reddit
A view on choosing a caliber because of a good deal in a handgun: Anyone wanting to stay current in the handgun skills would shoot two to three boxes of ammo a week. Call it ten boxes a month. .40 S&W is around $17 a box on sale (in early 2026), so $170 a month. So $2,000 a year in ammo, IF you are shooting ONLY one caliber, and range ammo only, not more expensive defensive ammo. $2,000 a year for ammo (I spend around $5,000) makes a “deal” on a handgun of even $300 off amount to absolutely NOTHING significant. It’s the AMMO. It’s ALWAYS been the AMMO. That’s where the real cost comes in.
nanananananabatdog@reddit
Your mention of the caliber shortage is an interesting point, but it's the only positive I see in the matter. I have caliber fatigue just thinking about all the various PRS type calibers that have been adapted to the AR platform.
Remember when 6 or 6.5 grendel were the new hotness? Not anymore, now its 6 arc. Also remember when .357 sig was going to replace 9 mm and .40 sw? Or when 10 mm was all the rage? Or when everyone was converting their ar-10s over to 6.5 creedmoor? I fell for that one. Now I just have caliber fatigue
I've personally found it's best to stick to the 4 calibers that I actually shoot, and just steadily stockpile it.
Buttoshi@reddit
9mm, 22 lr, 556, 12 ga?
nanananananabatdog@reddit
9mm, 300 AAC, 308, 38 special (out of a suppressed lever gat)
I like quiet things, they're the most fun for me.
Ketch451@reddit
Ah. My Q is answered.
Arkele@reddit
300 blk, 9mm, 22lr, 22-250… that’s my 4 right now (not the guy you’re responding to)
Ketch451@reddit
What are the four calibers you shoot?
brawneisdead@reddit
The big difference is that a TON of guns were made in 40 in the 90s-2000s and they can be found for very little money. Consequently the ammo is also available and relatively affordable for a non-9mm handgun caliber, and will continue to be available for the foreseeable future. You don’t have to make it your main caliber, but there’s little harm is having a cheap 40 on hand so you can comfortably scoop up deals on 40 ammo if and when you see them. That’s just not true for all the niche AR calibers that are already rare and expensive to find. Just my 2c. You do you of course.
burner456987123@reddit
It’s the internet and people have a hive mind. Yet they glaze 10mm which practically is .40
.40 is a great caliber and was developed for a reason. It hits hard and isn’t difficult to shoot. I’ve grown to really like it and have pistols in 9mm, .40 and .45 acp
Ketch451@reddit
Marginal difference? Nope. Let’s just use a good ammo for comparison: Speer Lawman in 9mm vs .40. My own chrono tests, 9mm tested in a 6” barrel, 387 ft-lbs energy. .40 in a 6” barrel, 517 ft-lbs. That’s 130 ft-lbs more energy for the .40 round, 33% more energy. That’s not marginal. That’s a difference maker. Some ammo is hotter. But this is apples to apples.
JDM_WAAAT@reddit
40 S&W kicked my dog once
KaneIntent@reddit
It just isn’t. It provides significantly more recoil for little to no more terminal performance than 9mm. On the other end it’s significantly outperformed by 10mm. If it was actually a great caliber it wouldn’t be a dying caliber.
kestrel1000c@reddit
Kills bad guys. Therefore it's not useless.
tearjerkingpornoflic@reddit
If you prep you never have to buy ammo during shortages. I have a lot of ammo in a wide variety of calibers. If SHTF no way I’m even coming out a survivor from the amount of gunfights I would be in to get low on ammo. Even then after suitable rounds are expended I would have a lot of .22lr left, by then my aim should be good enough for that to be a viable round haha.
TheRealSchifty@reddit
Not everyone can afford to stockpile ammo. This Glock is only the cost of one case of .40 S&W.
I'm not planning for the apocalypse. In the event of a shortage I'd like to be able to continue my competition and practice and be able to replenish my supply without worrying about it.
Insanity8016@reddit
Nah I'm good.
1610925286@reddit
Or just buy more ammo today instead instead of waiting buying a new gun AND new ammo.
BallsOutKrunked@reddit
Or just buy enough 9mm that it's not an issue.
BreadBudget9592@reddit
Missed it, hope to catch the next batch

Dumpster_Diver@reddit
Really good deal, if it was a gen 3 id be all over it
Interesting-Win6219@reddit
I'm uninitiated. Why gen 3 over gen 4?
Dumpster_Diver@reddit
I just have a lot of gen 3 guns and parts mostly. I also have a 34 gen 3 slide and i want a cheap frame
akenthusiast@reddit
Gen 3 slides fit on gen 4 frames, you'll just have that little gap at the dust cover. Several companies make plugs for just a few bucks.
Basically everything except the slide (gen 4 slide won't fit gen 3 frame), RSA and mag release are interchangeable between gen 3 and gen 4. That isn't to say all the parts are the same, some stuff was upgraded with gen 4 but nearly everything remained interchangeable
gnowbot@reddit
Any implications for left handers on gen 3 vs 4? Slide release…?
akenthusiast@reddit
The mag release is reversible on gen 4, that's it. They didn't do right side slide release until gen 5
ZeroDayDeal@reddit
Stupid question but would a gen 3 barrel fit this?
akenthusiast@reddit
Yes, as long as it's a .40 barrel
Places4people@reddit
https://atlanticfirearms.com/surplus-glock-22-gen3-frame-barrel
Here's a cheap frame thats gen 3
Former_Power6209@reddit
Gen 4 is superior to gen 3 if kept stock, but there aren't as many modification options for gen 4 as there is gen 3. The gen 4 has a better recoil spring system in it.
bowtie_k@reddit
Well that's the fastest I've ordered a gun I didn't need
always_an_eagle@reddit
26 still in stock.
Gremguy22@reddit
40 lovers rise!
Ketch451@reddit
I don’t expect .40 to be equivalent to my phaser or ion blaster. But people saying “it’s a useless caliber” just haven’t done the research. Notice nobody saying that ever supplies the numbers on which their opinion is based. .40 sits squarely between 9mm and 10mm, in terms of energy delivered, recoil, and price. It occupies exactly the niche it SHOULD. For many, a caliber is chosen based on the largest or most impactful caliber they can shoot effectively. If you can’t shoot 10mm and keep a 2” pattern at 10 yards, drop to a .40. If that doesn’t work for your recoil management skill, drop to a 9mm. Massively powerful shots that miss your target are worse than worthless, because you will Believe you are prepared when you aren’t. Even three .22 rounds to the face are better than three 10mm rounds to the ceiling. And, yes, all that said, you will consider whether you need a CCW or a nightstand firearm, and cost, and even availability of ammo. But, the basic points stand.
DCA805@reddit
You got me, great deal. Copped one
stylish_beets@reddit
Been waiting for another one of these to pop up, thank you kind stranger!
Thorforhelvede@reddit
FYI i have a Bear Creek Arsenal threaded 9mm conversion barrel in mine from FOREVER ago and it's been absolutely 100 reliable (shocking I know) (holy crap they're so inexpensive right now its absurd https://www.bearcreekarsenal.com/glock-22-40-caliber-1-16-twist-nitride-threaded.html)
so honestly this is a killer deal IMO.
Former_Power6209@reddit
Thorforhelvede@reddit
eh, it's still a threaded barrel for under $100, tough to beat.
a_very_stupid_guy@reddit
lol @ $20 for the thread protector tho, that kinda sucks.
XLR27@reddit
got a 3d printer?
realityflicks@reddit (OP)
if you don't, cheap 1/2x28 knurly boys are abundant
Thorforhelvede@reddit
heard
caspercarr@reddit
This is what I do with mine.
inthebeerlab@reddit
Silly question, but if you do the 9mm conversion then it takes standard 19/17 mags right?
Thorforhelvede@reddit
not silly at all, i use 9mm pmags in mine
Vq_diablo@reddit
Is this website GTG?
realityflicks@reddit (OP)
People seem to like them whenever I post their stuff. Smaller outfit out of Ohio but they seem like good folks.
Any_Dust1259@reddit
Of course I just brought one..
HitYourLawyerAgain@reddit
Yep. I had just bought a 279$ gt dist before shipping
Any_Dust1259@reddit
I’ll just keep telling myself since they discontinued the 22 MOS I won’t feel bad buying lol
Any_Dust1259@reddit
I just got a Gen 5 MOS blue label.. but I highly considered a used Gen 4 I couldn’t find under $400
Edog7272@reddit
Everytime I see a good deal on these I buy one and just place it somewhere through the house. Got a few in bathrooms and kitchen and other random areas you might need a gun at one day 😂Throw a few mags in with it and boom cheap gun.
More-Psychology1827@reddit
Buy this, then grab a 9mm & 357. Sig barrel for 3 pistols in 1.
Former_Power6209@reddit
https://centerfiresystems.com/factory-glock-22-23-27-15-round-magazine-40-sw-used/
CS has some cheap used mags, $6.99 plus tax/ship
Njanear@reddit
Read the line in the ad though - "These magazines show signs of rust and corrosion. Sold as-is.". The price sounds good until you think about the neglect these must have went through in order to get a tag like that.
realityflicks@reddit (OP)
Centerfire systems is usually really stingy with pricing. If the mags are cheap, they warrant it.
winewagens@reddit
I miss the old SummitGunBroker before he retired and sold it to these folks. Plus, they fuxked up a F4 six ways from Sunday on an LEO trade in SBR so it took forever for my local FFL to fix it with the ATF during the paper form days.
100konmywristlifesux@reddit
the $1k fully loaded m4 entry i got from him is my most glorious gun deal ever
nanananananabatdog@reddit
I remember them, he was an honest guy. Kind of old school but always honest.
Former_Power6209@reddit
Sent it, thanks OP. Even with one magazine it's a soiled deal. Surplus Glock 22 mags have usually been cheap and easy to find.
DrNinjaPandaManEsq@reddit
Any recs on where to look? Haven’t been able to find any that were a decent price.
Former_Power6209@reddit
Aim surplus has some for $10 but I'd bet there are some better deals out there, or dealers that don't collect sales tax.
I_L0ve_Hotcakes@reddit
Well shit, you got me. In for one.
knoxknifebroker@reddit
Tempting, but it comes with 0 mags Id be annoyed af lol
realityflicks@reddit (OP)
It's at least one, it seems. Some have 2.
knoxknifebroker@reddit
Does it say that somewhere? Just curious :)
Bearloom@reddit
knoxknifebroker@reddit
thanks man
GunsandDinosaurs@reddit
Had one of these, shot great but I sold it for almost double the money. I think I want back on the train, I have a gold 9mm conversion barrel that worked perfect aswell.
officialbronut21@reddit
Now this is an LE trade in deal. Thanks OP!
jdmmikel@reddit
Confirmed this will come full circle one day from the Police to engineers with a switch, taking down the Ops, the cycle of life for the 40 caliber
pantsopticon88@reddit
My glonk 40 runs shorty 40 no problem. But this would be a good buy for the next availability crisis.
New-Cauliflower-3017@reddit
39$ conversion barrel
FearsomeCubedWarrior@reddit
yeah, that's a problem: looks like there are no decent 9mm conversion barrels in stock.
realityflicks@reddit (OP)
Guess it's one magazine per. Some may have extras but I didn't pry for a rate on that.
TubeSockLover87@reddit
It says 1 in the listing.
Lenfried@reddit
Anyone have leads on a LE trade-in with markings?
Interesting-Win6219@reddit
Never bought from this site. Not a bad deal though
