Former Turkish Defence Minister, openly issuing threats of violence against Christians and Greek Cypriots. What do you think?

Turks don't change, they never change. Just go to any Turkish subreddit, you don't need to scroll too much to see similar threats and even worse.
I feel like Turkey, taking into account how radicalized their population is, has actually become a serious international danger.
TempomaybeALZ@reddit
Honestly why does Turkey get 1% of the critic Israel gets for doing the same things?
Turkey conquered half of Cyprus and started settling it how is that different to Israel and the West Bank?
Israel gets a lot of media attention (understandable) but others do the same sh*t and sometimes worse
pelererr@reddit
Lol u đ€Ąđ€Ąđ€Ą hypocrites
TheGodfather742@reddit
If we ignore that the man is a clown, he still has a high place in the government, this is clearly an answer on your president's stupid statement? You are acting like the bully that got slapped back but wasn't expecting it?
pelererr@reddit
I can found with just 1 google search a lot of samples like that. When u guys gonna stop play the victim?
Critical_Parking_671@reddit
Are Greeks occupying a country illegally?
pelererr@reddit
Half of the ısland ıs turkısh who made this whole island part of the greek government? Wake up from ur wet dreams.
Critical_Parking_671@reddit
But it isn't. Noone recognises it as turkish....it's recognised as part of Cyprus.
Let's play a game....find northern Cyprus.
https://www.un.org/en/about-us/member-states
You can call yourself a women. But if it looks like a man, smells like a man and has penis like a man it's a man.
You're not a women or Turkish for that matter
pelererr@reddit
Recognises is political thing not sociological. It doesnât make all island greek people. When time is change if the wind is on turkeyâs side dont be surprised they recognized whole island Turkish.
Critical_Parking_671@reddit
So is turkey a political thing or Greece a political thing. Northern Cyprus doesn't exists. Turkish settlers are not cypriots and your passport is toilet paper.
If Greeks were 80% population and on it since 1400 BC. You think anyone will recognise all the island as Turkish?
When Israel started war with Gaza. Countries started recognising Palestine! The reverse happened
pelererr@reddit
Since 1400 bc? Letâs say itâs like that ok, there was already people in island right? So u guys why occupy island? Itâs going first human like that just get over it
pelererr@reddit
Promises to greeks since 1400 bc
Critical_Parking_671@reddit
It wasn't promised because we were always there.
You're literally like the Jews who can here who removed us.....
How stupid of you.
pelererr@reddit
âWe were always thereâ thats the Jews word lol. U loosing on every table just shut ur mouth for ur goodness
Critical_Parking_671@reddit
We still exist.... That's the point .
If the original occupants are still around. We can give it them . Find them for me.
Volaer@reddit
Even that is him repeating Erdogans âone night we will come commentâ. Can you offer anything else?
pelererr@reddit
Yes many things i can offer and thats the point this issue have 2 side. U hypocrites just looking from Turk side.
CypriotGreek@reddit
Honestly, every time something like this comes out, you get the same response from some people here, âoh, Turks donât really believe this,â âheâs just one guy,â etc. But heâs not some random idiot, he was the Turkish Defence Minister. These are the people getting elected.
And Iâm honestly tired of this âboth sidesâ narrative. Itâs not the same. If someone like Mitsotakis or Christodoulides said even half of this, the reaction would be insane. Imagine a Greek leader saying something like that, you think it wouldnât escalate immediately?
So what do I think? I think one side keeps escalating the rhetoric like this, and then acts surprised when the other side starts making deals with whoever it has to in order to arm itself.
Ujemegaz@reddit
Should have carried out the reasonable talk before the war. Turkey has the means and capabilities to defend their own people. Otherwise, we both know what would have happened to Turks in 1974.
CypriotGreek@reddit
Itâs honestly Orwellian to call threatening and invading another people âdefending your own.â
And maybe take your own advice, people in glass houses shouldnât throw stones. You should be glad we didnât try to pull what Turkey did in Cyprus on you in the 90s after the fall of communism.
Ujemegaz@reddit
Actually, you can't say Greece did not try.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Peshk%C3%ABpi_incident
CypriotGreek@reddit
Trust me, with the state Albania was in back then, Greece didnât need covert ops or anything like that. A regular invasion wouldâve been enough if that was the intention.
What youâre linking is a small-scale nationalist group action, not a state-led operation. Thatâs not even remotely comparable to an actual invasion.
ZestycloseHat4990@reddit
I've never encountered a "both sides" point of view by anyone who isnt of turkish origin. The majority of people think turkey just invaded the island because and tbh this is the main controversy todayÂ
KakaoFugl@reddit
Youâre saying Turks have empathy and Greeks donât?
ZestycloseHat4990@reddit
No . Im just saying that the opression of turkish cypriots prior to the invasion is the main theme in turkish circles while the average lad especially in the west has the false premise that Turkey invaded the island unprovoked. Its considered "elite ball knowledge" to know the (direct) reason of the intervention but tbh this is rhe main controversy today. People sympathise with the guy who lived in the place previously (Palestine, ireland etc.)
KakaoFugl@reddit
Kudos for defending the validity of Turkish intervention. I donât see the Greeks doing that often.
Critical_Parking_671@reddit
The invasion and ethnic cleansing is not valid to anyone in the international community. Sorry to break your bubble.
Critical_Parking_671@reddit
The intervention and invasion, annex and settlement are different....
Prior to the invasion a near equal number of tcyp and gcyp were killed. The oppression is propoganda because it was intercommunal violence. It wasnt one sided....
ohgoditsdoddy@reddit
Yes, Turkey unfortunately has an ingrained, normalized level of ultranationalism and chauvinism, but it seems to me all he said in this particular post is... ÎŒÎżÎ»áœŒÎœ λαÎČÎ. This kind of saber-rattling lip service from a right-wing, nationalist, populist politician in response to a military build-up is somehow an escalation? It would make it better for you if there was a bit more decorum and grace to the rhetoric you receive from an enemy? It is status quo. It is also very much the same for both sides, I woulder if he got this "insane" reaction you speak of. Nationalism is a disease.
Ok-Newspaper-5406@reddit
They are not elected, Erdogan chooses them. He is an Erfogan clown.
ChampionDry1479@reddit
Most Turks already think this way anyway. Whatâs surprising about it? If you held a vote in Turkey and asked people, âWhat do you think about Greek Cypriots dreaming of Easter expansion?â youâd probably get 98% saying exactly what the former minister said
Porphyres@reddit
They can't expand in their own territory.
ChampionDry1479@reddit
If itâs their own why they are crying about it?
Porphyres@reddit
There is a foreign army there that prevents them from visiting their own houses.
ChampionDry1479@reddit
lol you should check the dictionary for meaning âownâ then
Porphyres@reddit
They are the legal owners. Has the concept of ownership not reached the third world yet?
Yarrrak31@reddit
Give the previously Turkish owned property in Greece back to Turkish people then.
Critical_Parking_671@reddit
Ones illegal the other is not. One is stolen the other is not.
If we follow your logic. Turks would have to go back to central Asia as all of anatolia had Greeks on it 1000 years ago....
Yarrrak31@reddit
Greece used to be a part of the Ottoman Empire. Every country recognized it as such. It was completely undisputed so going by your definition it was completely legal. When Ottoman Empire lost those lands many Turkish people who were living there had to leave their properties behind. Now give us back our properties since we legally owned them and they were stolen from us
Critical_Parking_671@reddit
Yet noone recognises north Cyprus..
Your argument is bogus. It's pure stupidity. If we follow your argument you go back to Mongolia and Greece gets all of anatolia
Ok-Commission1367@reddit
Man c'mon. You guys took those lands by conquering them. How are you asking it back as if it was yours lol đ.
The audacity of nationalists is insane.

Ok_Gur_575@reddit
What about makedonia, you made them change countrys name
KakaoFugl@reddit
Itâs just populist politician shit. Imagine all the shit Trump says. I would just think pff and move on if some Greek said this about Turkey. I donât understand why this triggers Greeks so much tbh, both sides keep saying stupid shit. Unfortunately we will never leave this tension behind, but itâs just tacos đź
herhangibirperson@reddit
These people have 0 knowledge of Turkish people, 0 knowledge of Turkish politics, 0 knowledge of Turkish populism, yet they claim to know everything. They genuinely think they know our own country better than us. The only thing they can do is generalize an entire population, but whenever the roles are switched (like when things like EOKA B, Golden Dawn, Greek support of PKK, Greek racism against Turks, Greeks weaponizing DNA against Turks and going on about how they are racially pure while Turks are not, which is literally fascist thinking, are mentioned) they pull the "don't generalize, it's just 1 guy 2 guys, it's mutual, majority of Greeks don't think that"
KakaoFugl@reddit
I canât disagree tbh. Iâm not even being hostile and keep a sober tone but due to the flag flair I feel targeted by Greeks, itâs not nice.
CypriotGreek@reddit
Of course it doesnât trigger you, youâre not the one being threatened every other week. Itâs easy to say âjust ignore itâ when youâre the one holding the gun.
The problem is, Turkey actually has the capability to follow through, and it already did in the 70s. So yeah, people take it seriously. Itâs not just âempty words.â Why risk it again?
And this whole âboth sidesâ thing, I already talked about it above. In Greece, the loud ultra-nationalists are fringe, 10-15% at most, not running the government. The mainstream line has been to keep things calm, even bending over backwards at times.
Meanwhile, these kinds of statements keep coming from the other side, and people keep voting for the same politicians. So clearly, itâs not just random âpopulist talkâ if it keeps getting rewarded for decades.
KakaoFugl@reddit
If Iâm certain about one thing about the Turkish government it is that theyâre full of shit and canât do anything without US approval. Erdo is just a lapdog. Unless Trump says go take Cyprus, youâre gucci.
CypriotGreek@reddit
Well, thatâs exactly the problem, relying on the US isnât exactly reassuring. If anything, it makes it worse.
This is like 100x more terrifying now.
KakaoFugl@reddit
The last thing Europe is in need of right now is another war. They wonât let it happen. I do understand your concern, youâre living in this.
Plutarch_von_Komet@reddit
Oh my God, that's word for word what the comment you answered to criticized. You couldn't even avoid saying "both sides"
CypriotGreek@reddit
Yeah, I was honestly a bit stunned reading that. Like⊠why would you comment the exact thing I was criticizing?
He basically said âno, thatâs not what weâre doing,â and then proceeded to do exactly that, word for word. Itâs like he read my comment and used it as a script.
fat-wombat@reddit
âIdk why it triggers Greeks so much when the people who occupied their country say violent thingsâ
KakaoFugl@reddit
Their country as in⊠Cyprus?
Porphyres@reddit
Duh?
KakaoFugl@reddit
Genuine question, I donât get it.
Porphyres@reddit
Where are you having trouble?
KakaoFugl@reddit
Who occupied their country part
Porphyres@reddit
Turkey occupied the part of Cyprus.
KakaoFugl@reddit
Turks occupied a lot of land, itâs not to know
KakaoFugl@reddit
Was it not because of this https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tochni_massacre
hgaben90@reddit
One would argue that people of Iran probably think a bit differently about what Trump says than most other countries do.
KakaoFugl@reddit
He wanted to erase a whole civilization the other day, what happened? And we as Denmark keep listening to his threats about taking over Greenland. Hungary however flirts with both Russia and USA đ

Idk, he keeps bombing them since weeks. Shall I crack a bottle of champagne that it's not a full blown genocide yet?

Your ppl saying worse shit over the years. We ignored and so should you. We are also tired of u creating paranoia due to being butthurt. Accept defeat and move on. And maybe hmm, contribute to world more somehow instead stealing our food and falsifying history? Currently Turkish companies, military tech and health science stuff are everywhere in the world and being used. What do you have? U are useless to world. I hate Erdogan supporters and talking for other secular %50 percent
duckgoesdockdock@reddit
i don't get why every single one of erdogan's lapdog always share the same rhetoric about cyprus, i think the reason why they resort to such stuff like this is because they are all a part of something called greater middle east project (that means their strings are actually pulled by the usa to keep dividing the island.....) maybe my theory is correct
EvilInGood@reddit
We don't want a conflict with Cyprus. But I don't know what can be the solution to the dispute that both sides can agree on.
Critical_Parking_671@reddit
Turkey leaving and talking their settlers with them? So simple?
EvilInGood@reddit
Sounds simple, could you tell me how can we know which Turks are native Cypriots and which Turks came from Turkey? Because it's basically impossible to tell every single one's origin. Distinguishing that became impossible after 1980s.
Critical_Parking_671@reddit
Very easy. All the legitimate ones have their EU passports from the republic of Cyprus. The fake ones have a made up passport only.
Heck, you could even DNA test them as cypriot DNA is extremely distinctive. It's one of the most endogamous isolated populations on the planet .
EvilInGood@reddit
You mean to tell me that every single native Turkish Cypriot in Northern Cyprus have EU passport as well? I doubt it. And DNA test proves nothing when Cyprus is mixed. You can find Greek, Anatolian, Turkic, Levant and more DNA over there.
Critical_Parking_671@reddit
Almost all of them have a republic passport because the other ones useless like toilet paper. Thousands also live in the south. Which is so ironic it's funny.
Cyprus is less mixed than turkey or modern Greece that's why have "cypriot" as a DNA category.
You can easily seperate a Turkish cypriot form Turk settler genetically with near 100% accuracy..
https://www.reddit.com/r/illustrativeDNA/s/knhkzYGcjY
EvilInGood@reddit
"With near 100% accuracy"? You can say almost but it can never be fully accurate since there had been many different migration routes so all that DNA thing is unreliable. Also, I have never denied that EU passport is valuable. However, that doesn't mean every single native Turkish Cypriot in the north could get one since there are people with different circumstances.
Critical_Parking_671@reddit
They all have one. Trust me. Or they're entitled to one.
Many thousand also live in the republic. Isn't that hilarious when Turks tell us everyday they're not safe.
But not one greek in north despite being 80% population. Last year you arrested 4 native greek cypriots on false accusations of spying when they went to pick fruit in their own country!
EvilInGood@reddit
I agree that there are many problems in Northern Cyprus but what you're suggesting is still moving people from one place to another and it's extremely difficult to implement something like that without someone losing their property or job (which happened a few decades ago and we saw how bad it was). Reunification can only happen when both sides agree on things. If Cyprus just says "Turkey, pack your bags and leave." tensions can't be resolved.
duckgoesdockdock@reddit
true! as a tc myself who is mixed this is actually genetically backed up and by how they look lol (you can never tell me a turk looks the same as a cypriot or smth else lol)
duckgoesdockdock@reddit
blew that guys argument away gg
EvilInGood@reddit
Nope
trisul-108@reddit
What do I think? I think Turkey needs to withdraw from Cyprus.

He's an ultranationalist lap dog of Erdogan. Of course he will say shit like that.
I'd be worried if he didn't say something stupid.
gamberro@reddit
Ultra-nationalism is a lot easier if you constantly ignore or justify crimes against humanity like the genocides of Greeks, Armenians and Assyrians. Would there be this ultranationalist nonsense in Turkey today if people were taught about the genocides modern Turkey was founded on?
suvarimiralay@reddit
Modern Turkey founded on saving Turkish people from genocide like they encountered in Balkans...
Just search "Turkish Independence War" or "Asia minor campaing".
PotentialBass3073@reddit
Turkish independence war? From what, their own empire?
VisibleReport5008@reddit
check the sevr map and see from what. Also from the ottomans in some way yes.
Deep-Ad4183@reddit
Sometimes you remember that youâre an Ottoman, and sometimes you remember that youâre Turkish.
Maybe youâre neither, after all.
VisibleReport5008@reddit
we are descendants of the ottomans as turks. Stop with the cornball
9uLer@reddit
Yup!
8NkB8@reddit
In the minds of some, the Turks were the oppressed of the Ottoman Empire, despite having the power. The Christian minorities were backstabbing, ungrateful infidels who deserved what they got, from 1914 - 1922. It's worth remembering next time someone brings up that Kemal Ataturk had nothing to do with the Armenian genocide. It's evident that he harbored the same kind of all-or-nothing, collective guilt complex as the other Young Turks, at least at the time. And if people want to claim he didn't, he clearly employed and supported those who did.
Fred_Neecheh@reddit
Armenian genocude happened during ww1
suvarimiralay@reddit
Republic of Turkey was not founded on 1915 events. Turkish independence war was fully a defance and resistance.
LastSeaworthiness767@reddit
Lol.
Balkan genocided Turkey, not Ottoman.
But Ottoman, not Turkey, genocided Armenian.
Formal and normal Turkish logic.
suvarimiralay@reddit
Balkan genocided Turks, not Turkey.
We discussing about Republic of Turkey founded on what.
And Ottomans didn't massacre the Armenians. Ottomans exiled the Armenians because of their rebelling. "Exile" maybe is a "genocide" according to UN, but i don't mind it, it is not same with massacring.
Fun fact, if they had never exiled them, it would be a true massacre.Because of the atrocities committed by Armenian gangs, Turks began to organize and take revenge on the Armenians. The Ottomans, by expelling them, in a way saved their lives. Now, their descendants are citizens of the EU, the USA, and Canada.
Mikslio@reddit
So where exactly are those so called "exiled" Armenians at, exactly? And I'm not talking about diaspora.
fat-wombat@reddit
Exhibit A for all of the âTurks donât really think like thisâ people
fibonacciii@reddit
Yes, perpetrated by Ottomans, not modern Turks.Â
holdmymusic@reddit
Perpetrated by the young turks, a group that ataturk was a part of. He might not have had anything to do with it, although we can't prove whether he did or not, but still he was a part of that ultra-nationalist group.
the_reeee@reddit
Western_Fox_4253@reddit
Canât prove? He was in Gallipoli in 1915 so unless he cloned himself, he is nowhere near involved in what happened.
fibonacciii@reddit
Yeah, no. Good spin though.Â
suvarimiralay@reddit
Peki, Ermeni çeteleri bölgedeki KĂŒrtlere neler yaptı? Techir kanunu neden çıktı?
Vaisiamarrr@reddit

fibonacciii@reddit
I never denied it happened though. So youâre wrong.
SarpKopa@reddit
I'm sure you don't even have any idea about how and why it happened
the_reeee@reddit
Genocude?
Cant even spell properly.
Zazubica@reddit
You surely understood what he said, stop being a cu*t.
Critical_Parking_671@reddit
In 20 years 500 tcyp, 400 gcyp killed.
To protect Turkish Cypriots from near equal violence on both sides.
In 1974 in 2 weeks. 3000 raped by Turkish military, 2500 killed, 180,000 forcibly removed form homes. Then annexe it and imported 400k settlers.
Are you no embarrassed?
gamberro@reddit
So what role did the Armenians, Assyrians and Greek genocides play in the creation of modern Turkey if the latter wasn't founded on them?
suvarimiralay@reddit
You mean this? :
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Population_exchange_between_Greece_and_Turkey
It is not genocide. If it is, Greece did genocide to Turks also.
The expulsion of Armenians from Anatolia by the Ottomans certainly significantly reduced the threat from the east during the War of Independence. However, I feel absolutely no remorse about this. This was the response to a group that had begun a genocide against the Turks. Let it be them, rather than us.
Saxumsium@reddit
Yes, that makes it okay.
Own-Dependent8834@reddit
Dunno about that bud. Germany acknowledged the Holocaust and since then they still continue to support genocides.
slysmile@reddit
Also, Israel.
gamberro@reddit
It's controversial but there's a lot of truth there. Chillingly, the lesson from the Holocaust was not learnt in Germany of all places. "Never again" ought to mean "never again to anybody" but clearly that's not what is meant. Germany has no problem supporting a country that is repeatedly trying to destroy another population. What are repeated blockades of all food to a trapped population if not an attempt to destroy it?
Norman Finkelstein (whose own parents were Jewish Holocaust survivors) has written about how the Holocaust is being misused to promote collective Jewish victimhood and support for Israel. For many, Jewish people should be seen collectively as victims, rather than as equal human beings who are just as capable of doing good or evil as anyone else.Â
Chewmass@reddit
The government supports specific genocides that align/don't interefere with german interests. The common folk may say otherwise.
Same can be said for the Turks. Especially those living in the western side of their country, which would absolutely hate a war/conflict with Greece as it would undermine their businesses with them.
fibonacciii@reddit
Be conquered or conquer. Itâs really that simple. The west likes to spin the narrative that theyâre do gooders. Theyâre not.
The Greeks attempted to fight for sovereignty and lost. Thatâs the reality. Unfortunately innocent people died on both sides.Â
The Armenians attempted to fight for sovereignty and lost. Thatâs the reality. Unfortunately innocent people died on both sides. Yes, the Armenians experienced genocide at the hands of ottoman officers. Maybe one day modern Turkey will recognize this.
SOHONEYSAME@reddit
sure.
the same applies for the Greek islands.
we liberated them, militarily.
the Turks left for Turkey.
they're, now, internationally recognized part of Greece.
(tell ur government, & ur people, to stop crying & "claiming" them).
suvarimiralay@reddit

tell ur government, & ur people, to accept this, stop crying, & stop "claiming" them.
Trick-Ad-7158@reddit
No you didn't. You sign a treaty to be a protector of Cyprus. You violated that treaty by invading twice and occupying the land since 1974. No country in the world regognise the puppet land Turkey occupies. Why don't you go to the UN as well to tell all the countries to stop crying and accept the illegal occupation?
suvarimiralay@reddit
Lmao. It is not other countries business and we don't care about their recignization. If they recognise, well. If they don't, no problem. Northern Cyprus is ours.

herhangibirperson@reddit
Next time other countries wonder why Turks can be nationalist they should have a look at the comments here. Turks get generalized on a daily basis, but whenever the roles are switched "it's just 1 guy, it's just 2 guys, don't generalize, don't be sensitive, not all are lile that"
Cane607@reddit
Turks don't do themselves any favors, when interacting with foreigners that are often belligerent and arrogant, and lacking in self-awareness. You're a good example of this.
Porphyres@reddit
Lol "Why are Turks judged by the way they vote?"
herhangibirperson@reddit
On a daily basis Greeks deny Turkish heritage, deny Turkish history, deny Turkish culture believe in racial purity "you are all Greek", but also call Turks Mongol invaders, claim Istanbul is stolen land, call Turks barbarians, support PKK against Turks

NegotiationSweet5082@reddit
According to the agreements you've signed, you shouldn't be placing weapons and soldiers on those islands. Of course, if the agreements aren't important to you, then things change. We could suddenly decide to bomb islands that shouldn't have anything on them. By the way, our presence in Cyprus is legal. We were a guarantor country and intervened when necessary. If you're wondering why Turks are on the island, you should investigate where the Greek Cypriot gangs get their weapons. These are the consequences of your own mistakes.
Ok-Day-2000@reddit
According to the Treaty of Lausanne, an agreement Turkey signed, the islands of Imbros and Tenedos were supposed to be granted special administrative autonomy to the local Greek population. Turkey never gave special administrative autonomy or their own local non-Muslim police force to the local Greeks of those islands. In fact, Turkey opened an open prison on Imbros island, where convicted rapists and murderers from mainland Turkey were sent there who were allowed to roam free during the day and had to return to their cells only at night, something that rarely happened though.
https://en.protothema.gr/2021/10/19/when-turkey-banned-the-teaching-of-greek-on-imbros-tenedos-islands/
âOf course, if the agreements arenât important to you, then things change.â So according to your logic, if one part of a treaty isnât implemented then the entire treaty is null and void ? Then The Treaty of Lausanne would be null and void and Turkeyâs borders would return to the much smaller borders issued in the Treaty of Sevres ? Where Istanbul would be under International Control, Izmir (Smyrna) under Greek Control and most of the rest of Turkey besides Ankara under Italian and French Control ?
Trick-Ad-7158@reddit
Easy there with the propaganda mate. Guarantor doesn't mean to occupy a country forever. Not a single country recognise the puppet occupied land you hold in Cyprus. Turkey lost so much because of that. Why still occupying it?
pariria@reddit
The 1947 Paris Peace Treaty, under which Italy ceded the Dodecanese Islands to Greece after World War II. It required that those islands âshall be and shall remain demilitarized.â This includes islands such as Rhodes, Kos, Leros, and Kastellorizo. Italy was the prior sovereign over those islands, so the transfer to Greece came through that treaty. It's Italy not Turkey. If Italy doesn't give a f*ck about it so should Turkey. The reason Turkey keeps talking about it is because they want to repeat the invasion they did in Cyprus in 1974. Why would any country be so adamant about the demilitarision of neighbouring islands? 2+2=4. Oh by the way you forget about something called casus Belli.
KakaoFugl@reddit
Why do Greeks care so much about Cyprus anyway? Arenât they Cypriots?
hunichii@reddit
True, as per the Laussane treaty. The militarized islands (those closest to Turkey) were those that were added to Greece with the Treaty of Paris, a treaty which Turkey wasn't a part of and thus never signed. So the Laussane Treaty does not apply to them.
Alternatively, your government officials could consider not making a hobby out of threatening Greek territory every Tuesday or whenever they get bored, so they would not give Greece a reason to militarize and arm the islands in question. A much more efficient and serene solution.
The stupidest strategy you could conjure, then you give Greece an opportunity to invoke NATO Article 5 and have a full blown out war with NATO just because you were petty. And now, besides create bloody wars for all sides involved, you also create more power vacuums in the Near East area and allow Israel and Russia to intervene EVEN MORE than they already do. Wonderful.
Certainly you did. That's why you also established a puppet state in the same vein of the Luhansk and Donetsk Republics in Eastern Ukraine that suddenly popped up when Russia invaded in 2014. And funnily enough, the puppet state in question saw very little actual development aside night clubs and casinos, all meant to lauder money. And also why the puppet state gladly offers its real estate territory to be bought by Israelis. Yup. You care so deeply for the livelihoods of Turkish Cypriots, it shows.
And before you make up shit, I do not believe Greece was innocent at all in the Cypriot conflict, especially considering the Greek regime at the time. I believe that Cyprus' sovereignty should only be determined by Cypriots themselves regardless of their ethnicity. All I'm pointing out are the holes in your arguments and the discrepancies.

Before my Turkish friends jump on this comment, meddling isnât an exclusively Turkish trait. Greece meddling with the Greek Cypriots historically led to extreme problems on the island. Today the Republic is a completely independent country. I canât say the same for the TRNC.
CypriotGreek@reddit
Honestly, I get the sentiment, but as a Greek/Cypriot, I donât agree with lumping Greece in with Britain and Turkey. Itâs just not the same.
You canât compare a small Greek contingent, around a thousand troops, to tens of thousands of Turkish soldiers in the north, or to the British bases. Thatâs not even in the same category.
Since the late 70s, Greece has taken a pretty hands-off approach, more of a âwe support the Republic of Cyprusâ stance than anything else, not really comparable to whatâs going on with Turkey and England
cbk1992@reddit
Iâm not comparing because if I was, youâd be absolutely right. Britain and Turkey are the major players in the problems. However, EOKA B was a product of the Junta in Greece.âŠlegitimate or illegitimate we need to own our part in the destruction, regardless of how small.

300 Greek Cypriots dead before the Turkish invasion (don't fall for the false Turkish argument of stopping massacres - those happened in 1963-64 and AUGUST 1974).
6,000 dead during Turkey's invasion, including 500 Turkish and 100 Greek soldiers. To say nothing of the thousands of Cypriots killed, raped or driven from their homes.

I think I can be relatively objective since I'm an atheist, I don't care for any religion, nor what religious people believe.
Non muslims trying to live together with muslims is beyond futile. It is folly. They should always be separated as cultures. Like some people shouldn't be together and get a divorce -which is perfectly natural and much preferred than staying together under some circumstances - some cultures should also not mix.
Greece wanting to take back Cyprus is foolish. Wanting to take back parts of modern day Turkey is foolish, for much the same reasons. Whether they agree or disagree with the borders is irrelevant. If any side backs down the other will likely try to test the waters and see what they could take over. The problem is not the borders but the cultures. Especially in non muslim balkan countries, letting muslim populations be in these states is cultural suicide. The only culture -aside from the Phoenicians- that take pride in their own children dying is that of islam. I can't see how one could reason with such people.

I don't care who is Dandias. One is a fluke, two is a coincidence, three is a pattern. Republic of Cyprus started seeing a dream where they control all of the island. I don't know who they trust. Maybe Israel. That dream might turn into nightmare pretty quickly.

Allow me to translate this to you.
At the site you gave me they translated it like this:
"Turkey has a very large military force in the occupied territories of Northern Cyprus. There are currently over 40,000 soldiers there. Perhaps these events could be a good opportunity for them to withdraw from the island..."
He never said "occupied territories" and he never said "Perhaps these events", which changed the whole meaning of what you are saying.
And yes. They should be withdrawn. They have no job there other than bullying the Cypriots.
Don't get your news from Turkish outlets. Go outside.

Worried-Owl-9198@reddit
Yes If South Cyprus can take my balls in its mouth then it can attack there too.
giallonero21@reddit
There's no such thing as South Cyprus. You can call it the Republic of Cyprus or just Cyprus as it is the only country on the island. The northern most part of Cyprus is illegally occupied by Turkish forces, it is known all over the world. Only Turkey claims it's an independent country.
So, my question? Will you answer or you prefer to speak your nonsense propaganda, as expected?
Can Cyprus attack Northern Cyprus (see I'm being respectful and even calling it by a name that doesn't exist, try to also be respectful and not act as a monkey) tomorrow and Turkey won't mess with them?
I mean YOU did say, that the Republic of Cyprus isn't associated with Greece and Northern Cyprus isn't associated with Turkey. Correct?

Between 1963 and 1974 in Cyprus, the approximately 2,000 civilians murdered and the 1,200 Turkish soldiers and Mujahideen who fell during the 1974 Operation are not just data, unlike what you suggest, but precious lives that will never return; those who started this bloody process surely pay the price, and if we hadn't intervened, who knows what kind of atrocities you would have continued to commit

I donât think that means violence against Christians or Greek Cypriots. He is fierce supporter of two state solution and somewhat of a troll/western spy as every islamist politician is. Yet I find such turkish comments to be very contained to the land they are living inside (northern Cyprus), rather than pan-hellenic one what claims entire island is Greek. No Turkish politician could ever push turks to invade southern part of Cyprus but Greek Cypriot propaganda is actively pushing to do so and turning northern Cyprus to second western thrace. Yet that doesnât mean mainland turkish government is not abusing northern part of island and not undermining cypriot identity from inside. Problem is just that Erdogan will steal what you have for its own sake while a Cypriot Greek would claim that you didnât even own that place or your ethnicity at first place (like israeli settlers).
Critical_Parking_671@reddit
There is no north Cyprus. It's illegally occupied. Unrecognised made up of alliexpress settlers.
RoyaleKingdom78@reddit
The Treaty of Guarantee was designed to preserve bi-communal consociationalism and independent state of the Republic of Cyprus. Cyprus and the guarantor powers (the United Kingdom, Turkey and Greece) promised to prohibit the promotion of "either the union of the Republic of Cyprus with any other State, or the partition of the Island".
Northern cyprus is illegal for it is partitioned But tell me who wanted to unify island with some other country and almost succeeded? The ones whom cypriot greeks still admire and teach of.
Critical_Parking_671@reddit
Yes so why did you invade AFTER the junta fell and democracy restored?
You invaded the republic not eoka not the junta and committed mass war crimes outnumbering the attrocities by eoka by 3x.
Then unbelievably settled the place into stolen homes.

mufurber@reddit

In 20 years 500 tcyp, 400 gcyp killed.... Look it up. Turks kill more Kurds in 1 day!

Actually the Greeks should have taken the Annan Plan. They didnt, and now they complain. Then Erdogan tried to sabotage any more attempt, which didnt work. I would say to both sides. I believe that Turkiye has to get the political spectrum in order. For such a large and important country petty differences used by politicians could lead to some very nasty situations in the future. People have to understand that promoting ideas of eliminating others in a society or going forward and tolerating extremely nationalistic ideas and fighting for some lands won't make a country greater, it will only make it worse.
Look at what countries are hated nowadays, almost exclusively, for going down that road; Rusia, Israel, USA & others. Are the people living there better, are they happy, are they so great? I think not.....
