Bitcoin currently $71.6k.

They should be demanding gold doubloons but i guess this works, too
gonnadeleteso@reddit
How would this work?
jimmietwotanks26@reddit
I dunno, that’s their problem! If the country that built Dr Evil-style underground missile lairs can’t figure out a doubloon collection system, they’re not Strait, they’re Gay
gonnadeleteso@reddit
So you don't actually have any idea?
Cute.
jimmietwotanks26@reddit
You thought my original comment wasn’t a joke?
Good read
Siglet84@reddit
Honestly, I don’t blame them on this one. Should have been doing it long ago.
Anen-o-me@reddit (OP)
They shouldn't be holding ocean trade hostage. That's economic terrorism. They're a bridge troll.
txtumbleweed45@reddit
What other options do they have?
K31lover2@reddit
Not commit several forms of terrorism to include economic terrorism.
Siglet84@reddit
What terrorism have they performed?
Anen-o-me@reddit (OP)
Mining the strait is literally a threat of force.
Siglet84@reddit
Did they actually mine it or is that what your government tells you. There have been plenty of ships that have passed through unscathed. We dropped in excess of 50,000 bombs on their country and you’re mad that they stopped shipping.
Anen-o-me@reddit (OP)
They also attacked multiple ships that tried to slip through. The strait is in range of land based artillery and anti ship missiles. This isn't merely what governments are claiming.
Siglet84@reddit
You mean after we dropped tens of thousand of tons of bombs on them?
Anen-o-me@reddit (OP)
Yeah, the US attacked them, they then bombed 11 countries. Are you suggesting the US bombing them excuses their own war crimes?
Being the under dog does not make you morally impeccable.
Siglet84@reddit
The countries that aided in the attack? It definitely wasn’t 11. Who said they murdered thousands of their own people? The government that wanted to justify an attack? Weird how it went from nukes, to regime change, to ending a civilization.
Anen-o-me@reddit (OP)
Stop trying to minimize Iranian atrocities just because you oppose US military action. We all here oppose US military action.
Siglet84@reddit
Bro, did Iran invade two sovereign countries for no reason and wage a 20+ year war killing hundreds of thousands of innocent civilians. The Middle East is none of our business. Plenty of wealthy countries over there to take care of what we see fit. God damn you’re neocon.
Anen-o-me@reddit (OP)
I oppose war with Iran, you're out of line. That doesn't mean I'm going to ignore that Iran is a global sponsor of terror.
Iran terror proxies have been attacking the US and Israel for decades. Including killing US servicemen. I'm not surprised the US eventually invaded them. Do the words "death to America, death to Israel" mean anything to you. They declared war in the US and Israel decades ago.
Countries tend to not like their soldiers and citizens being killed by foreign actors.
Israel was never going to allow Iran to get a nuclear weapon either since one nuke can wipe out Israel and Iran had enough 60% enriched uranium for 11 nukes.
That's just a discussion of geopolitics, don't mistake that for me endorsing war with Iran by the US.
The US didn't have to get involved however.
Siglet84@reddit
Go touch grass. We’ve been intervening in their affairs since the early 1900s.
Anen-o-me@reddit (OP)
Yes, my position is both sides are evil.
Your position is only one side is evil, that's why you're wrong.
Siglet84@reddit
Cool so we should just stay out of it all. Glad you finally saw it my way.
Anen-o-me@reddit (OP)
That's always been my position.
Anen-o-me@reddit (OP)
We have witnesses. Who is telling you they didn't and why did you believe them?
Anen-o-me@reddit (OP)
You sure about that?
K31lover2@reddit
So you've entirely forgotten about Beirut, training the Benghazi bombers, the Quds brigades, their proxies, the IRGC militias, and their weapon smuggling and them training other islamic terror groups? Have you not been paying attention at all for the last 47 years?
commandercool86@reddit
Iran was kicking ass 50 years ago. Then the west intervened about that long ago and set up the puppet republic that set them back 100 years
JustDancePatate@reddit
No the west actually made it far better. Yes the Shah was very harsh on politcal opponents but he also let woman go to universities and had good relation with western countries. New infrastructure projects. The trouble arrived after the revolution where the system we now know was established.
Siglet84@reddit
Ahhh so only attacking the U.S. because it didn’t belong in the Middle East and overthrough their elected leader in 54. It’s funny how people forget that. How about when we encouraged and armed their enemy (Iraq). How about when we sanctioned them for decades? The U.S. has commited exponentially higher amounts of “terrorism”.
Coolenough-to@reddit
Doesn't Iran kill people for not wearing a head scarf?
Siglet84@reddit
How many innocent Iraqi and afghani citizens have we killed?
TuringGPTy@reddit
Best way to stop bad stuff is to bomb it!
K31lover2@reddit
Remember how we gave pre islam iran top of the line equipment and training? Remember how they were a great ally until islam and the ayatollah took over? Look at the country before and after the revolution and you'll see just how far they've regressed. Look at the economic differences before and after.
K31lover2@reddit
Not to mention all the assassinations they've either ordered and/or carried out
TuringGPTy@reddit
Economic terrorism isn’t a thing.
Anen-o-me@reddit (OP)
What do you want to call it then, extortion? Racketeering? It's completely unethical regardless of the word.
TuringGPTy@reddit
That’s business buddy 🤷
Anen-o-me@reddit (OP)
You're no libertarian then. We do not recognize wealth extraction at coercive threat as trade nor legitimate. It's criminal activity.
TuringGPTy@reddit
As opposed to overt force, of course? Tell me more about what “we” believe in, tell me more about what “Libertarian” are going to claim to believe in.
Anen-o-me@reddit (OP)
As opposed to not charging for passage, not threatening your neighbors, not sponsoring global terrorism, and not killing people. Obviously.
TuringGPTy@reddit
There’s no free lunch in life
Anen-o-me@reddit (OP)
Traveling on international waters is free. Wtf are you even saying.
TuringGPTy@reddit
US should have negotiated a better deal 🤷
chedder@reddit
Its called peace through strength.
BastiatF@reddit
It's quite common to close straights in times of war (e.g. the Bosphorus in WW1). Who started this war?
a_bit_of_byte@reddit
I’ll take it over them charging in Chinese Yuan
GrumpyGrinch1@reddit
And here I am, the sucker who's paying $1 PER GALLON right now....
DesertMagma@reddit
C'mon, at least go all in and set the price in Satoshi's per barrel !
Sekreid@reddit
You bet that’s going right into someone’s pocket
DravenTor@reddit
You know, I've learned over the years that part of being an adult is learning about the entire world as each crisis presents itself.
Kinda shitty really.
by the time I'm 70, I'll know every corner of geopolitics.
sybersonic@reddit
God created war so that Americans would learn geography.
ManosMal@reddit
The actual quote, btw, by Ambrose Bierce is "War is God's way of teaching Americans geography." Great line.
DravenTor@reddit
There's a difference in geography and knowing all the players and their motivations in a given area. That's why it's called geopolitics, not geography+
-Amplify@reddit
Same, kinda wish I could go back to ignorant bliss lately
PhilRubdiez@reddit
Have you considered a drinking problem or black tar heroin?
-Amplify@reddit
I’m doing both and still voting every election, this is the American way no?
