WALMART HIRING PROCESS

So I applied for Walmart on 3-22-2026 and since then I haven’t had any contact from them, wondering if that’s normal since I figure they have an absurd about of application volume etc\~ looking to see if anybody went through their process and to get info on you guys’ experience with it. Thanks!

Aside from the pay, what else lures drivers to work for Walmart.
I’ve heard the health benefits are lousy…
BrandontheCDLguy@reddit
I always wondered the same thing. The pay isn’t really any better than anywhere else. Plus they micromanage the hell out of drivers and have driver facing cams.
TeacherGoneTruckin@reddit
Yes, the driver facing AI cameras is what’s holding me back…
Numerous-Key-652@reddit
Benefits aren’t lousy. Just got told you get 6 weeks 100% paternity leave when you have a child. It’s for fathers and mothers to take.
justhereforthefunnyZ@reddit
Mothers get more.
GhostlyCannibal94@reddit
Job is easy. Benefits are nice. Paid for everything. Stable company that wont shutter overnight. Great coworkers. Strict hiring process to weed out the bad ones. Never have to touch a truck stop. Parking at Walmart stores. Safety department is chiller than one would expect.
Whitehoneybun666@reddit
Everything sounds good but I’d have to park at a truck stop if I’m otr I need my daily showers
aboywithhorns@reddit
You can get a shower every day no sweat. They encourage this. They pay for showers at truck stops. And yes I haven’t been to a dc that doesn’t have showers. They have been closed or limited due to remodels lately.
GhostlyCannibal94@reddit
Nothing wrong with that. I believe all the Walmart DC's have showers though.

Getting a job at walmart isljme winning the lottery
ohjaimiea@reddit
Yeah you get sent to their bullpen in Indiana for training/making the cut. Many drivers don’t pass. They are strict
FiveSixJuan@reddit
What kind of training of we talking about here? How do you get cut?
GhostlyCannibal94@reddit
You have to pass 3 assessments.
-Full pretrip in 30 mins or less -3 backing tests -3 driving assessments
FiveSixJuan@reddit
Seem pretty easy. Wonder what kind of backing they make you do, parallel park maybe, thats the only one that can be tricky 🤔
possibly_lost45@reddit
You say that til you realize it's a full pretrip like when you got your cdl. If you miss anything it's good bye.
aboywithhorns@reddit
This isn’t true. There are 5 MAJORS that will result in an instant fail. You can miss up to like 30 points worth of minors. If I remember right it’s the seatbelt, visually checking the 5th wheel (gap, bolt in and handle fully retracted, and both locking jaws visible, BEFORE hooking up air lines and performing a height check on the fifth wheel before backing under trailer, tandem pins locked in place with the release arm set in the locked position, and hand checking all 100 lug nuts. On actual test day I didn’t miss anything. Not one missed thing. First time I didn’t use the hammer to thump the tires which wasn’t a fail but it did count against me. Second time I missed something but I can’t really remember what it was, and 3rd time I aced it in like 20 minutes. This is still the same pretrip I perform every morning. The longest part about it is having to verbalize the whole thing. If I can pass it anybody can bro
FiveSixJuan@reddit
I would pass that easily. Most of it is just muscle memory. Not to mention i used to be a trainer. You could pass it too, you would just need to brush up on pre-trip, YouTube could help with that
Molly8174@reddit
Nah you gotta do the Walmart Pre Trip, word for word how they want it. It’s a little different. The cocky guy in my class that’s been driving for 20 years failed the pre trip.
Safe_Fail_568@reddit
How are you supposed to know the Walmart pre-trip without being taught it?
Molly8174@reddit
They show it to you several times. You don’t test until Thursday. In Spring Valley they gave us a sheet to more or less memorize. It’s all about proving you are teachable and you’ll be a good minion.
Safe_Fail_568@reddit
Does the process start on a Monday?
Molly8174@reddit
It did for us, yes
DJ_ZackGold@reddit
Sounds easy, there nothing easy about, you have to turn each lug not in each tire by hand, that 100 lug nuts the whole truck. Nothing same with pre trip of CDL test.
FiveSixJuan@reddit
I've competed in my state Truck Driving Championship before. Where you have to do a whole pre trip in under 8 min. Turning each lug nut is just part of the process in looking for defects. From what I read, Walmart gives you study material too, not saying it would be a walk in the park but it certainly sounds feasible
unloader86@reddit
The pretrip they want is like the one who did for your CDL exam. Thorough and if you miss anything at all they will send you home.
GhostlyCannibal94@reddit
They make the set up tricky but it's an easy 45 degree back if you do the setup right. After that you have to back in the hole without hitting either trailers on the sides but they park them on the lines to make it harder. Lastly you have to line the trailer up almost perfectly from the trailers on the side and not exceed something like 6 inches on the front or back. You have 15 minutes to do it.
*this was my experience in Dover DE. It may differ in other training locations.
GettingRight2498@reddit (OP)
Thank you, sounds like some shit I’m not interested in lol
firemarshalbill316@reddit
Hahaha 🤣😂🤣🤣
FiveSixJuan@reddit
You're pretty much trying out like a sports team, interesting. Preciate you replying, I didn't know the process
charonco@reddit
To add to this, you have to pass the driving test three times, the backing test two times but you only have to pass the pre-trip one time
justhereforthefunnyZ@reddit
I think it’s 20 minutes or less now
SnooCakes1586@reddit
AFAIK they lowered the pre trip time recently out of the Red Bluff center.
GhostlyCannibal94@reddit
You get sent to a training location based on your region. It's not just IN.
Numerous-Key-652@reddit
I’m in the 5 day orientation right now. All I will tell you is don’t believe social media. Most don’t fail. It’s more like 70% pass and they give many opportunities to pass you. When you get to orientation they’re spending a good chunk on you to pass and be a driver. If you don’t make it it’s your own fault. So don’t believe Reddit and online. Some things are true. Most not so much. Also it took me 3 months to get a response back, but when I did get a response I got everything booked and set within 2 weeks.
GettingRight2498@reddit (OP)
Awesome, needed this reply It’s more my speed ! Is pay salaried or mile? I’ve seen different things. Also is pretrip everybody is talking about the front of cab back to the end of trailer or just cab?
charonco@reddit
As the other person said, it's mileage and activities. The activities throw a new New concept into the game because many days my activities pay more than the mileage I get. In the beginning I was upset when I'd get a lot of short trips because most other OTR you're only worried about your mileage.
Numerous-Key-652@reddit
Let me just say this. Yes. Theres a study guide out there. Google it.. It’s milage and activities. Just do me a favor. Focus on learning terminology in that packet. Don’t learn more than whats in that packet. If it doesn’t talk about a drive shaft don’t add it into your routine when you get here. Best of luck.
charonco@reddit
This completely depends on where you go to orientation. I went to Grantsville. My class started out with 13. One dude dropped out after the 1st demonstrated pre-trip. Out of the 12 that were left, only two of us made it. One of the people who got cut came back after the mandatory waitinh period and made it the second time That being said, I think I heard they almost completely got rid of that training team.
justhereforthefunnyZ@reddit
When I went through onboarding we had over 40 drivers there and 8 made it.
cowboygeo89@reddit
Took me 3 applications and 6 months to get on
Safe_Fail_568@reddit
Someone could probably make bank teaching a course on how to make the cut with Walmart
cowboygeo89@reddit
There really isn't a need for it. Just apply with a good driving record show up and be a professional. Everything you do in on boarding you should already be doing every day.
trucksarekewl@reddit
With all the bs you gotta deal with they should be paying ups money
GhostlyCannibal94@reddit
You start out at 110k and it's the easiest driving job I've ever had. There's not a lot of "bs" to deal with.
trucksarekewl@reddit
I can do that and be home every day. With an even easier gig. Im good
LongHaulSentinel@reddit
Congrats, that’s awesome. With the pay being graat for industry, Walmart actually excels in the benefits side more than anything. That you wont get anywhwre else (besides ups).
theboywthagreenscarf@reddit
Not only that, ups mostly hires from within. It’ll be hard to get into ups without starting off as a package handler or something like that.
trucksarekewl@reddit
Alright
GhostlyCannibal94@reddit
That's cool. I don't wanna drive home and back everyday after driving all night. I also enjoy being paid for sleeping in the truck at night, that's just free money.
trucksarekewl@reddit
Alright lol
GettingRight2498@reddit (OP)
Salaried ?
bizzywhipped@reddit
They are picky AF. Very is desirable job, so they can afford to be.
Do you have just the minimum 36 months experience, did you job hop? As a rule companies don’t care if you did, but good companies do care.
MarmotWorldOrder@reddit
How would it look going straight from a mega after 36 months and applying?
bizzywhipped@reddit
I assume it would look good, shows stability and dedication.
bizzywhipped@reddit
I honestly wouldn’t know. My plan is to work 12 months for a mega +18 months for a second company. Halfway there, at 18 months right now and going to apply next January.
GettingRight2498@reddit (OP)
I have the 32 and they’re requiring 30 I believe, haven’t job hopped but only been trucking a little under three years so idk if I’ve had the opportunity? 15 months with prime, year at my current job and 7 months at my starter
PoopyStinkbutts@reddit
One of my former drivers left us for Walmart. He was all happy and proud he got the opportunity. We wished him well.
Fast forward a few weeks, I get a call from him. He started his new job... but not at Walmart.
When he showed up for his onboarding he was sat in a room with 20 other drivers and then told a select few will actually make the cut. He lasted two days.
Now it might be different for you; maybe different Walmarts do different things. We are in the northeast hub area by the major rail yard.. but chances are it's the same everywhere.
TL;DR - wouldn't get my hopes up even if they call you, interview you and then give you an onboarding date.
ImJustHereToSearch@reddit
What an obnoxious thing to do. Have people leave their previous job before even knowing the have the new job.
aboywithhorns@reddit
They don’t tell you to quit. It’s not obnoxious to make sure you can walk the walk and talk the talk. Seriously though they never say to quit. You have to earn the job here. Onboarding is an assessment performed by you and you are actually hired by your fellow drivers. It’s not some corporate kid with no driving experience. It’s real private fleet guys who still run freight. I thought that was awesome when I went through 4 yrs ago.
ImJustHereToSearch@reddit
Well.. sounds like that dude messed up then lol
PoopyStinkbutts@reddit
Yeah and I lost one of our best and safest drivers because of it. He was too embarrassed to come back
GhostlyCannibal94@reddit
They tell you ahead of time that you still have to pass onboarding to get the final job offer. They even give you up to 2 weeks after onboarding before you have to start so you can get you affairs in order such as leaving old jobs or moving.
GettingRight2498@reddit (OP)
Damn~ so it’s just getting pulled for an audition 😭😭 wtf
taco_2325@reddit
If you can drive for McLane and do the menuvers those guys do Walmart is easy as it gets.
Outrageous_Law8210@reddit
Took about 2 months for me personally to get a call back i almost started looking for another job
GettingRight2498@reddit (OP)
Two months is wild ~ but noted. Thank you for your input man.
Zxynwin@reddit
Yeah as others have mentioned just make sure you don’t quit your job prior to going or can return to it if you don’t pass onboarding.
The response time and hiring needs vary greatly with location and region, some of the DCs are massive some are small. It may be worth to apply to one further away and get hired on there and look at transferring after a year. You have to wait at least a year to transfer iirc
If you know how to drive and back properly and safely you’ll do fine just make sure you know your pretrip, there are study guides floating around online on YouTube specifically that are useful
GhostlyCannibal94@reddit
I applied for Walmart in July of 25. Didn't hear anything until mid Sept. Started onboarding the first week of Oct.
Where you applied is a big factor. I tried several times in bigger cities in my state but kept getting denied. Eventually applied to a smaller one out of state and got accepted.
FiveSixJuan@reddit
IWhat kind of training are we talking about here? How do you get cut?
