Can I do the paperclip test of my PSU with it removed from the pc and without any wires connected?

logically I cant see an issue with it but I wanted to see if anyone here knows or could give me any reassurance. I really just dont want to disconnect it from the motherboard, my hands hurt enough as it is lol

Update: after just over a year my 1000w MSI PSU is dead

Without any wires as in not connected to the motherboard or no modular cables connected (if using modular PSU)?
If it's the first option yes, otherwise no, you'd have to connect the ATX 24-pin modular cable.

Sorry, I should have specified that it is fully modular. It would be the empty socket on the PSU

You can use the empty socket, however you will need to know which pins correspond with the 24-pin output pins. On many power supplies it's 1:1, but a lot of them have different connectors on the PSU side or just different pinouts.

Then you would need to connect the ATX 24-pin cable since there's no standard layout on the PSU side.

You need to disconnect it from motherboard…
