Old -Shirts

So….you know when an old t-shirt reaches the end of its lifespan. Does anyone, rather than just bin it wear it one last time then rip it off like Hulk Hogan at WrestleMania whilst pulling a weird face…..?
Or is that just me…..?

My wife recently made a quilt with a bunch of my old t shirts. Very cool use and good memories when I look at it.
Oiggamed@reddit
I had a girlfriend in the 90s that braided all my old tee shirts onto a rug. I hope she still has it. My old band t-shirt from high school in the 80s I still have.
DPax_23@reddit
I save them in a bin and will one day send them in to a quilt company.

Back in my marching band days, we wore white button-down shirts under our tuxedo-style uniform coats. My best friend bought 3-packs of the cheapest Wal-Mart shirts he could find, and after each marching event he would rip them off his body with as much violence as possible.
Bromodrosis@reddit
There are companies that will make them into a big quilt for you.
AC_Uni@reddit
Used them as rags for clean up in the garage, basement, etc.
NoctisVX@reddit
I frame the best ones in IKEA Gladsax (or similar) frames meant for vinyl records.
Dpgillam08@reddit
If it hasn't disintegrated yet, it ain't worn out yet!
Anonymo123@reddit
they go into the pile to wear when doing yard work or painting. once its too crappy for that.. rag pile. after that.. trash.
Jebgogh@reddit
nope, I wear tshirts to sleep in after they are no longer fit to be out in public until they get too thin, then they become car wash clothes. same with my underwear which led to a fun discussion with my neighbor while washing the car the other week.
Sitting_pipe@reddit
This is the way
Sitting_pipe@reddit
Mine go in "the drawer"
Mission-Jackfruit138@reddit
They become workout gym shirts or mow the lawn shirts. Maybe after that they become garage rags.
sane-asylum@reddit
Nope but I sure the hell am now!!!!!!
DaddyOhMy@reddit
I will wear them beyond the point of what would be considered "wearable." If they are in poor shape, I'll use them as an undershirt. This did bite me in the ass a few months ago. I was wearing a very comfortable, very stained t-shirt under a sweater to work. The heat in my office was blasting and I couldn't turn it down. I was in a sauna. I started to pull off my sweater and realized what I had on underneath. Oops.
Road_Dog65@reddit
There are places that will turn them into a quilt style blanket, I am going to go through my rather large collection of tattoo shops and geek/nerd style shirts and do that to them
TrickQuiet9630@reddit
sort of...but i rip it off like chris farley at a chippendale's audition.
but seriously, i'm lucky to have a sister-in-law that enjoys sewing. she'll take favorite tees and turn 'em into pillow covers.

My husband does. He seems to get perverse joy out of it.
ONROSREPUS@reddit
Me too. Boys will be boys!
My wife likes to rip off my old underware. Not because its sexual but she hates underware with holes in them that didn't come from the factory that way.
AlpineVW@reddit
It bothers my wife to no end that I'll wear shirts with holes in them. If she spots a hole, she makes a beeline to it and will rip it off my body starting from the hold. I'll fake ball my body in a corner and cry.
I have a 30 year old sweatshirt that's off limits though. It's disintegrating every time it goes in the wash but she's agreed to not rip it. That's why she's the best
YellowBreakfast@reddit
Great idea.
I've started putting them in an old pillowcase to use as rags in the garage.
starksfergie@reddit
When I was still living with my rents (early to mid 20s in the 80s/90s) and I had a few old concert t-shirts - Unbeknownst to me at all, but Mum would take any very worn shirts and throw them in a rag bucket in the garage. I found a few of my shirts in there when I was washing my car. I'm sure the first time, I had a discussion with her, but she obviously didn't listen. Funny now, wasn't so much then...
Cold_in_Lifes_Throes@reddit
I still wouldn’t find it funny 😂. I am holding mine from 84 to use as a quilt. One day I’ll get around to it.
starksfergie@reddit
That's excellent and if you do, please share a pic!
I'm sure I only have about 10 shirts left that I don't wear nearly as often (but mostly still the same size I was way back then)
Armadillo-Overall@reddit
I have gone through a few concert shirts and I've tried keeping the art after the arm pit holes started. I've got a leather biker jacket and a denim jacket that I've slowly sewing the logos onto.
itgoesineasy@reddit
The last stop for a t-shirt for years was the hayfield. We cut the arms off and split them 3/4 of the way down the sides. Usually after a season they had so much grease on them we tossed them. They weren’t even rag worthy.

Maybe if I’m with the right group of friends. Maaaybe if I’m going to put some irresistible bootie-call moves on my wife. But that’s it broheim
Inner_Speaker_335@reddit
Have you ever heard of a t-shirt quilt?
My grandmother made one for me when I graduated high school. She’d saved a bunch of the shirts I’d outgrown or wore out, made quilt squares out of them, and put them together in a queen-sized quilt for me.
That was one of my most prized possessions for many years.
burtenotbert@reddit
I always wear them until they're in shreds and either toss them or turn them into rags. RIP my Public Enemy T, you lasted for a long time
NoiseNecessary4737@reddit
To shreds you say
burtenotbert@reddit
I did say
Negative_Solution680@reddit
Shirts have end to their lifespan?
28smalls@reddit
They go from wearing everywhere, to house clothes, to sleepwear. Haven't had any evolve any further.
No-Conversation9818@reddit
My shirt life cycles are usually t shirt, yard work shirt, rag, gun cleaning patches
beermaker@reddit
My wife had our favorite worn out tees made into a quilt. It's finished and awaiting shipping right now, can't wait to see it!
Responsible-Middle35@reddit
Old cotton tees are ripped up to wash cars.
hc1540@reddit
Well, I am now!
TemperReformanda@reddit
I have Hulk Hogan'd a good number of shirts but most of them end up shop rags.
cgoldberg@reddit
I haven't done that, but I probably will from now on. Do you pre-slice them like hogan did, or just tear them off as-is?
GASPetc@reddit
Golden Boy
H3nchman_24@reddit
I've never done that.... but I'm going to start!
grin_ferno@reddit
If it's got cool graphics I make it into sweatband for when I'm working outside.
Throw8976m@reddit
Husband and I do a clset clean out a couple times a year and donate stuff that is old or ill-fitting, or that we are tired of.
KellyzKillaz@reddit
I've never done that. I wear them until they literally disintegrate, to my wife's dismay. I won't wear them in public, only around the house doing chores, oil changes, etc. Not going to wreck another shirt doing those things. Old reliable is perfect in those situations. We both do the laundry normally. They get to the point I won't let her touch them doing laundry. I fear they'd meet an "unfortunate accident." They only go in loads I take care of myself. Funny how she always suspiciously volunteers to wash those items!
Mitsuman77@reddit
I do that to my torn or hole ridden work shirts (business casual). My old torn up t shirts live another life as a rag in the garage.
Bobbydogsmom43@reddit
I made a Tshirt quilt with all my old Tshirts & it’s awesome.
spicyface@reddit
Many years ago, my wife took a Jazzercise class. I was a working musician at the time and I told her to get me a t-shirt. The instructor gave it to me to wear at gigs. I wore it for over 20 years until the sleeves were falling off. I ripped the sleeves off and wore it one last time to get a tattoo. I miss that shirt.
bluntpointsharpie@reddit
My family plays a game with old shirts where everybody wins. It's called 'Wear a Hole or Tear a hole' you get to choose.
Blackstrider@reddit
Old shirts?? Is that the same myth as 'leftover wine'?
userr7890@reddit
I cut out the best parts and sew them onto another
