Birthday Hidden Gems Restaurants Recommendations

It's my husband's birthday today and in the past few years we've gone to a Brazilian steakhouse for his dinner. He told me this morning he wants a change of taste. Outside of birthdays we rarely dine out, what are some good restaurants in Dallas/Frisco/Plano area. We like Asian food, middle eastern food and American food (mostly just steaks). We don't drink and have 2 toddlers (reasons we rarely go out). I wanna try an Asian buffet, we haven't been to one in over 10 years but I don't know what's good.
Thanks in advance

Not hidden gems necessarily but our spots we have had fun celebrating at in the past
South to north
Restaurant Beatrice - south Dallas oak cliff area New Orleans cajun in a refined dining room. Feels fancy and homey at the same time.
Miriam’s cocina next to Klyde Warren excellent Tex Mex good pricing relative to most downtown spots
Elephant East pan-Asian in harwood downtown
Deluccas - gaucho pizza in design district; prepare to be stuffed, interesting pizzas good cocktails but the space itself is the selling point for me. Might be better for a group celebration as it’s not very intimate
Sachet - oaklawn fancy and expensive Mediterranean)
Sister - lower Greenville also on the expensive side but excellent food and a trendy spot
Masami - very small intimate spot for sushi in Richardson (belt line/75)
Sushi sake - Richardson is a cool date spot (Campbell/75)
Mexican sugar - tex Mex Plano at legacy west
Haywire - American upscale more expensive than fancy legacy west decent food from what I remember

Casa Pollastro. Not Asian and not a buffet but has a good variety of food. They'll bring more of anything to your table.

Rare Books Bar in Frisco is nice but may not be for the kids, it's a bit intimate in the dining area. For Brazilian we like E.G. Steak which is also in Frisco. If doing sushi, Tokyo One is ok but I prefer Osaka in Addison, it seems to have a bit more variety.
If you like buffets and middle eastern then Dimassi's up on 121 near Preston is a good choice.
Steve Fields is pretty good for steak. Not overly like Perry's or Capital Grill and their desserts are huge.

You mentioned a chinese buffet. There’s an upscale one in Richardson called crouching tiger hidden dragon. More traditional Chinese than American Chinese food, but they list their menu.

Selda Mediterranean at Beltline/Preston (note that there may be two signs—you want the sit down restaurant). Absolutely amazing, tasty food (different meats and great selection of vegetarian too). You need their Pistachio Basque Cheesecake!

I assumed they would be with a baby sitter for the birthday date. 😆

Look into Tokyo One. I haven't been since they relocated to Plano (from Addison) but from what I recall it's one of the more premium buffets with options normally being place like Great Wall, King Buffet, etc. Used to be pretty solid, with food being cooked continuously in small batches, keeps everything rotated and fresh.

This looks so good, exactly what I would have gone for. I forgot to mention I'm also pregnant so will have to miss out on the sushi.

It’s good for Japanese/Sushi, I go often. Seapot is a fun experience for hotpot & Korean bbq. They don’t take reservations and can be busy on the weekend/peak times. Consideration for the toddlers.

Seconded for seapot. Love that spot. It’s not my favorite hot pot place, but my favorite, Liuyishou, doesn’t do kbbq.
We take our 1 year old in his upseat and just sit him on the bench with us, and he loves it.

Check out Panda Express. The noodles are amazing! It’s casual but I took my wife there for her birthday last year and she loved. Still talks about it to this day.

Sultan in McKinney is excellent for Middle Eastern food. Good kababs, dips and tea. They're not licensed so no worries about drinking.

Seapot is my vote for you guys

Royal China has great food, house made dumplings and noodles. Royal and Preston. Call for reservation.

Rise! They specialize in soufflés - both savory and sweet. They have a whimsical atmosphere. I recommend the one in Dallas though their other location is great too. Definitely a unique experience.

Have you been to Jeng Chi in Richardson? If you like Asian food, that's the place.
