Best spots for freshly roasted coffee? Does anyone roast locally??

I am here from another city, and the coffee I've had so far has all been stale. Surely it is not like this across the city?

Coffee de Rey in Plano, they roast in house it’s a tiny coffee shop only has like 4 seats inside but I always do take out and the coffee is amazing

LDU!!! Such a great coffee shop!

While roasted locally is a great choice - if you like coffee from Mexico - specifically Chiapas, Mexico Ruta Maya is quite good and I've found it to be always fresh. The roast dates have always been in the last week. HEB and Costco have it usually.
matt_havener@reddit
Coffee grown in Mexico or coffee roasted in Mexico? Lots of local roasters are roasting coffee grown in Mexico.
StormForeign@reddit
Roasted in Mexico. I've picked it up from 2 different HEBs as well as ordered online from Costco and the roast date was within a week of when it arrived. A one kilo bag of beans seems to stay good for at least a month, keeping them in the bag they came in - sealed and in the dark. I'm a big fan of Mexican coffee. Cafiver is another good one from Veracruz - but it's hard to find here in the states.

Problem is most of the fresh roasters are charging $15-20 for a 12 oz bag now that coffee is so expensive. Even the less fresh value bags from Aldi and Trader Joes are $8-$10.
thathappyhippie@reddit
That’s because the cost of producing somewhat decent quality coffee is expensive
dharmazazen@reddit
Sorry I'm not paying $20 for a bag of coffee and why am I being downvoted for telling the truth?
thathappyhippie@reddit
good coffee is expensive, that’s just a fact. maybe you’re being downvoted because of your willful ignorance? 🤷

Buzz and Bustle in the Village roasts their own coffee. Im not a connoisseur, but it tasted much better to me than other places.
posdof@reddit
Houndstooth has their own roasting brand, Tweed. Their roasting facility is in the design district and they roast there for all of their locations.
jazzisntdead@reddit
...I just realized why their coffee is called Tweed. I might be the dumbest coffee snob in the metro.

Davis Street Espresso! They also sell whole beans which I buy for my home espresso
matt_havener@reddit
If you search this reddit, there are a few local roasters. Full City Rooster is my personal favorite.

Clicked this post just to drop in and mention Full City Rooster lol
phu-q-2@reddit
This is the spot, even if it's out of your way just a bit. Excellent coffee and business!
msitarzewski@reddit
FCR is the choice. I can see the back patio from our back yard!
addynan@reddit
Went there just yesterday for the first time and got the Peru on the barista’s recommendation. Absolutely love it!
d-copperfield@reddit
Same! I used to work for the guy who owns it when he was a Starbucks district manager and they’re amazing.

Jumping in to say the exact same.

Cultivar, Native, and Pax & Beneficia have been my favorite for local roasters!
Nacho_Libre_0075@reddit
Noble Coyote Coffee Roasters in expo park is great. They even have “cupping classes” to learn about taste, smell, etc. really cool owner and delicious coffees.
redditmyeggos@reddit
Native is great
IAmTurdFerguson@reddit
Native doesn't roast their own
redditmyeggos@reddit
They roast it in Colombia and send it up? It’s all sourced from the one family
IAmTurdFerguson@reddit
I don't deny that their coffee is good, I just clarified that they weren't "locally roasted" as requested by OP.
redditmyeggos@reddit
I’m asking you - you’re saying it’s roasted in Colombia and then shipped up roasted?

Central Market in Plano (idk about other locations) will carry their coffee and sometimes have it on sale or have a coupon.

Parks in Carrollton
IAmTurdFerguson@reddit
Parks is the worst roaster in town, bar none. When I visited, they didn't even have "Roasted On" dates on their bags.
Ascension and Pax & Beneficia are fantastic alternatives.
Mr-Top-Demand@reddit
When did you visit? They hired a coffee expert consultant in the past year
IAmTurdFerguson@reddit
That's good to hear. It's been a few years. There was a lot of room for improvement.
gentlechoppingmotion@reddit
There's a place called moon wolf opening on the tenth in Richardson. I heard good things about their food truck.
JohnDoe_85@reddit
Full City Rooster, Noble Coyote, Davis Street Espresso, there are a bunch of these.
TheGrest@reddit
You didn’t give us much besides ‘not stale’ which is probably rare for third wave shops. Native, wayward, pax and beneficia are nice. I like light roasts but switch between clean and funky profiles.
girafferan@reddit
Honestly I've tried all of these suggestions and the only two worth mentioning that are actually local are Oak Cliff Coffee Roasters and Cultivar, otherwise Avoca in Fort Worth is good and Voltage in Argyle is amazing.

Davis Street espresso roasts their own coffee on site. I know white rock coffee does as well but I can’t vouch for it as I’ve never had it.
