Silverado Overlanding in NC

Hey y’all,
Look for inspiration on what to do next.
I’ve got a lot of DIY stuff done and upgrades to the truck, mechanically speaking, with still a long ways to go.
It’d be nice to see some Silverado builds and what you’ve done to future proof your trucks aside from the obvious (transmission, AFM/DOD delete, regear, CV upgrades).

Is that the stock dash screen? Looks like you can fit a lot of map on that

Brother! That rig is sick! I’m in Charlotte myself. Any good camp locations/ trails you’d be willing to share? Just getting my feet wet and hit old nc 105.

Thanks homie!
Me and the boys have been hitting a spot off of 105, Dobson Knob. Trail isn’t challenging and it’s a nice little cut off from 105.
There’s also a nice spot off of NC181. OnX off-road should have it. It’s along FS Road 982 before Upper Creek.

I’m not a chevy guy but I can’t deny this thing looks badass. What a sick rig

Chevy Brother! Sick truck, OP. Here's my 2018.
If you haven't already, do the transmission thermostat bypass and install an auxiliary transmission cooler otherwise your transmission WILL get toasty on the trails. I've gotten uncomfortably close to cooking mine before I installed the kit from Mishimto.

Hell yeah dude, first order of business was a trucool auxiliary cooler. Then a total rebuild with sonax internals and billet torque converter. Trans stays cool no matter where I’m at or what I’m doing.
bnsfwarbonet@reddit
Awesome, sounds like you've done your homework. I learned my lesson when my torque converter failed on me at 53k miles. Fortunately I still had a factory warranty when it happened!
Grizzly-35@reddit (OP)
First trans went out at 110k, the reman one they put in it failed at 135k because of my 3/8th fuel line trans cooler lines that I made to fit the cooler 😂 lesson learned. Made it back home luckily, then torque converter started whining.

What grille lights did you go with?
bnsfwarbonet@reddit
Just some cheap generic ones on Amazon. Required a small little bracket for the last light to fit but it looks good from afar. I never found a light that was made specifically to fit that exact style grille.

Came from a Tacoma to a Chevy and one of the best moves I made was building a hot tent setup for the bed. Not exactly what you are thinking but the custom fabrication side of things opened up a lot of creative storage solutions that I still use every weekend. I still look at the truck and find things I could have done better so definitely document your build as you go and it will pay off down the road.

Yeah we had to do a bit of rough metalwork for the heater bracket and the GMRS in the sunglasses holder, it’s fun seeing what all is possible when you start going down the rabbit hole.
Hoping to put a video out on my YouTube channel detailing everything once the dust settles.
Adorable_Swing_2150@reddit
The rabbit hole is always deeper with these trucks. That heater bracket custom work is the kind of thing that looks simple but takes forever to get right. Good call on the YouTube docu — those details are always the most useful part for people coming behind you.

Normally dislike Chevys but this is a dope build. Good taste brotha, well done.
Something i threw on my truck recently is Bad Ass Mounts. Not necessary but definitely nice to have
Grizzly-35@reddit (OP)
Thanks man!
Checking them out now, might have to pick up a set of those swivel mounts.
itsjehmun@reddit
Unbelievably sick truck, OP.
Grizzly-35@reddit (OP)
Thanks homie 🥲 lot of work
itsjehmun@reddit
Hot take, the haven't made a pickup truck that looks better than this generation 'Rado.
Grizzly-35@reddit (OP)
Nah agreed. This is the last Silverado gen that actually looks like a truck and if you can billet out the transmission and get rid of AFM/DOD, trucks solid.
itsjehmun@reddit
Yeah I sold these trucks and was surprised at the AFM thing although could be worse, you could have DFM, lol.
Grizzly-35@reddit (OP)
All just to save gas.. nobody buys a pickup truck for fuel efficiency. Really excited to see how these new 6.6 gas engines hold up after some time. Might be the new 6.0 LQ9
Inevitable_Sun8691@reddit
What bed rack do you have?
Grizzly-35@reddit (OP)
A very cheap one from Hooke Road. Shipped from China, but I’m impressed so far. It holds the tent weight, plus three people, and the solar panels/additional roof rack equipment.
