Been talked into swapping from British Gas to Scottish Power, but what are people's thoughts and experiences with them?

So I have about 2~ weeks to cancel before the change is finalised, but I'm on a pre-payment tarrif with British Gas (after moving from EDF Economy 7, which honestly might have been a bad move).
I've had a little bit of dealing with Scottish Power before, though it was explicitly negative as they swapped me over to their service despite the fact I told them I wasn't looking to swap at the time, which then caused a load of hassle as I was in the process of swapping from EDF to BG.
I'm not great at the whole "adulting" thing yet, despite being 30, so I kinda let myself get talked into changing via the Go Compare people, and it seems like Scottish Power will be cheaper for me, at least than British Gas, but I'm not great at comparing these things or knowing how to get the tariff that's actually best for me.
So thoughts, opinions, suggestions and recommendations are all welcome.

Have a search for Scottish Power on /r/LegalAdviceUK
I'd avoid them personally.

Octopus seem to come out best both for dual fuel price and customer service

I'll check em out.

I would recommend Octopus. I'm on their Agile tariff (for electricity) because my smart meters support it, and for my usage (including EV charging) it saves me a substantial amount over the course of the year.

oh yikes, guess my instinct to go with that initial negative impression was right then.

I'm only learning now that Scottish Power is actually real and just a doorstep scam that I thought it was from their behaviour

I've never had an energy company that didn't fuck me eventually. You got to keep switching.

Scottish power are terrible. You'll be jumping out of the frying pan and into the fire!
We ended up with Octopus energy which is a genuinely different and really good company, who look after their customers.
Honestly, I was pretty cynical about them at first, but Octopus is a breath of fresh air in the heavily polluted, choking atmosphere of useless, money grubbing, UK energy companies.

I had a similarly pushy experience from Scottish power trying to leave the supermarket. I'd avoid, personally.

don't do it.theyre far from Scottish

We had people coming door to door from Scottish Power who were very pushy about trying to get us to join them, neighbours reported them ignoring no cold callers signs and being outright aggressive. So they can jog on even if there is a theoretical saving.
