What kid show as a kid did you most want to go on.

I loved Double dare but it was too gross for me to compete in.
I’d choose Carmen San Diego. I loved geography and Rockapella

Legends of the hidden temple!!!! Great question btw
MotherofaPickle@reddit
Eve back then, I could NOT believe that the kids didn’t know the answers to the questions. Caught it on Pluto the other month and I was So Angry AGAIN because they were all super basic questions that I KNEW at that age.

If you haven’t seen backstory in this show, there’s lots of good articles on it (eg, this) like why almost no one won in the final round and how many players were traumatized by the show.
RyNysDad0722@reddit
Good read.. thank you kindly

This reminds me, I need to 3d print a piece of the aggrocrag for my desk
GraceGreenview@reddit
Someone years ago was selling their Aggro Crag rock from sinking the show.
thunderlips36@reddit
Imagine the bragging rights having that would have earned in those days. You would have been school royalty
Grongebis@reddit
mo herself i think
SweetCosmicPope@reddit
This is the one. I always wanted to go on that show. The kids that went were always the most uncoordinated and non-athletic kids I ever saw. I would have school at that velcro wall game, and definitely would have taken home a piece of the agro-crag.
majorjoe23@reddit
There was a game show where at the end you ran through like a maze filled with video games and consoles and you could Velcro them to your suit. It looked so great.
DenverBroncos_Fan@reddit
Video Power!!! I wanted to be on that so badly.
Ocron145@reddit
I had to look up the name because I couldn’t remember. I just remember the prize was running through and grabbing video games/consoles as fast as you could.
Rex_Bossman@reddit
My plan if I got on the show was to go right up to the top row where you had to slide down at the end and just start tossing everything up there down the slide.
GreenKiss73@reddit
Double Dare
Basic_User_Name3000@reddit
My brother and I used to make our own obstacles based on this show. This show needs a reboot with adult contestants! Or former kid stars (omg- like the kids whom Who’s the Boss vs Alf)
Turkatron2020@reddit
An adult version is a great idea 🏆
Basic_User_Name3000@reddit
I’d watch it! They are rebooting everything else. Could you imagine a parent-kid version ‽
GreenKiss73@reddit
I played DD in the shower. I would dump the entire bottle of shampoo on my head for the slim. My mom is still mad at me for it.
PiratePilot@reddit
The only correct answer. Or Legends of the Hidden Temple maybe?
Yummycummy4mytummy@reddit
I was at the traveling version of the show, they were doing theaters at one point. It was my lil bro and my favorite show of all time, 2nd place Legends ofnthe Hidden Temple.
Mark Summers was going through the crowd to pick out families to compete. I can feel it, its happening. The light flashes on us, Mark asks if we are ready, then says "hey where is your mom?"
I look back, hoping to see her. We needed two parents, two kids. She had just taken my lil sis to the bathroom.
I desperately try to explain to Mark Summers she will be right back, he says "Hey sorry kid" and moves on to select another family. Not sure if this is exactly how it went, but its how its burned into my memory.
Speaking of burning, my mom and sister died in a freak gasoline fight accident the very next day. Two tragedies.
Turkatron2020@reddit
Please tell me you just have a really dark sense of humor 🙏
Yummycummy4mytummy@reddit
They are both alive, it was a loose Zoolander reference.
GreenKiss73@reddit
That's tragic. Don't know how I could have lived with the disappointment of almost getting picked for the best game show of all time. I hope it didn't screw you up too much.
Yummycummy4mytummy@reddit
Mark talked to me. The legend himself. I still remember how intense the series of emotions felt. I wanted to display our family's balance of intellect and physical prowess, to be slimed, too attain glorious victory.
Nightstands@reddit
I was in a competition to get on DD at universal studios when I was 11 years old. Prime age. I was doing great, was in the top two from a group 50 deep, but in the final round of Simon Says, I got beat by Ashley. I saw her show, and she and her partner won, so I had bittersweet happiness for her win. So close.

zombie_overlord@reddit
I'll take the physical challenge, Mark
CurrentHair6381@reddit
ppatek78@reddit
Take the physical challenge
Perdendosi@reddit
Thats why I probably wouldn't have been a very good contestant. I knew almost all the answers and knew a lot of kids didn't know the answers. I would have actually played the strategy-- dared the other side, and when they double dared me back, I would have answered the question instead of taking the physical challenge, racking up tons of points with no pies in the face.
Boring but effective. Producers would have hated it. ;)
Minger57@reddit
This is my answer as well.

mysfwaccount84@reddit
There was a spin off I believe, that actually did have kids competing. Of course the gladiators scaled back the physicality, but it was against full grown gladiators. Gladiators 2000 perhaps?
AlwaysSleepingBeauty@reddit
Gladiators jr
Grongebis@reddit
GUTS
harryhitman9@reddit
Why are we acting like "Guts" didn't exist. That was essentially American Gladiator for kids. I loved that show and it would be my pick.

Mike from Redletter Media (my favorite Youtube channel) tells a funny Bozo Show story.
odin_the_wiggler@reddit
I used to feel so bad when they'd call a really little kid up there, they'd very predictably fuck it all up on the first ball, and then Bozo would have to go into damage control mode.
Lifelong trauma starting right there.
jfrii@reddit
This comment right here is how I know ALL Y'ALL MOTHERFUCKERS IS MY PEOPLE!
Damn man. Unlocking some real shit this morning.
odin_the_wiggler@reddit
Man, when they'd call the kids name, and the camera would pan around and suddenly lock on a 4yr old, you just knew you were about to see a kid miss dropping a ball into a bucket from 6 inches away.
Standing right above the bucket and still miss.
Then they'd punish that kid by giving them Necco Wafers or whatever.
VerbalK23@reddit
Man, couldn't even hook em up with some Archway cookies?

dadjokes502@reddit (OP)
I liked bozo but for some reason cookie creeped me out.

Did you win?
bridgetwannabe@reddit
Yes!
timsea99@reddit
Awesome! I'm sure it's a great memory for you and a great story to tell at parties 🎉
bridgetwannabe@reddit
I wasn’t able to enjoy it much until I grew up … I was in 8th grade and my peers teased me pretty relentlessly for being such a huge nerd (kids are so mean). Nowadays it’s just amusing personal trivia and works great for 2 Truths and a Lie 😃
Rich-Truth5329@reddit
Do you have the episode recorded on VHS?
bridgetwannabe@reddit
Oh yes - my dad was ridiculously proud and has maintained a copy, first on VHS, then converted to DVD, since it first aired in 1993 😇 it’s actually on YouTube now, tho it wasn’t us who put it there lol. I’d link, but not sure I want to dox myself.
rialucia@reddit
Shoot, I think this would be a great standalone post in this sub!
bridgetwannabe@reddit

I got to be in the audience once, but that was as close as I got.

hearbutloud@reddit
YES! There was even a computer game. I never played Oregon Trail because my school had Carmen (they had both games but I much preferred the latter).
Murderhornet212@reddit
Me and my friend would hog the library computers and trade off between the two games
CardioTornado@reddit
The computer game was so much fun! Loved both that AND Oregon Trail.
Rich-Truth5329@reddit
I loved those games. Wish I could play them now for nostalgia.
FormalDinner7@reddit
Definitely this, but only if I didn’t get the Africa map in the final round. I don’t think I ever saw a kid win on that one.
cjl99@reddit
I had the exact same thought. Like Botswana being yelled to me multiple times as I get the womp womp.
graveybrains@reddit
Is it weird that I only wanted to sing with Rockapella? I don't even sing particularly well.
dadjokes502@reddit (OP)
That theme song was a banger

Rich-Truth5329@reddit
I think anyone who liked the show loved Rockapella. They were a super charming component to the show.
Dunk5055@reddit
I was trying so hard to find this to show my daughter. It’s almost like it’s been wiped from existence
hisamsmith@reddit
I tried out for it when I was 11 at one of the mall tours they did in my area but because of my disability (I have a spinal cord injury which resulted in me using a wheelchair full time) they told me they couldn’t accommodate me. Mostly they couldn’t make the final game play fair. The one where you have to identify so many countries on the floor map with a marker (a pole basically) within a certain amount of time. I was unable to pick up the marker and move on my own. It made me a little sad but it is what it is. It was cool getting the opportunity.
CardioTornado@reddit
This one. Geography was my jam. Was totally convinced I’d win. 😆
Preparation-Logical@reddit
I was so envious when a kid would win the main game and then get the U.S. map as their final challenge.
TK1129@reddit
When I was in 6 grade every kid in my school took the test to get on during social studies. I did well on it and a few weeks later the casting crew came to the school and had us play games to audition for the show. I didn’t get picked to go on the show but my neighbor did. He didn’t answer a single question. I’m still disappointed I didn’t get on 30 years later.
AshDogBucket@reddit
Me too!

This is the one I was looking for - I couldn't remember the name, thank you! These shows always made the prizes look soooo good!

Yes! I came here looking for this answer. The bizarre newlywed game for siblings was a favorite of mine.

Can I just go to the bonus round of the sweepstakes grand prize of 2 minutes in Toys R Us sponsored by Nick???

jamessheldon444@reddit
Definitely Double Dare.
2nd would be doing the "assault" event in American Gladiators.
Acceptable-Fold-3192@reddit
Double Dare or the Bozo show to play the Grand prize Game or whatever it was called where you’d throw the ping pong ball into buckets to win prizes.

I spent much of my youth in front of a video console, and would always get so mad at the kids that would suck playing the video games
CubesFan@reddit
We had a local show called Romper Room for the preschool agers, but they would often bring classes from elementary schools on the show to do stuff. We had two classes in my school and they chose the other class. I was soooo jealous. Also wanted to go on the Bozo Show. I truly believed I could win the Grand Prize Game.

Can I tell you the show I was most afraid of being on? It was Candid Camera with Dom DeLuise. When I was a kid, I’d only cuss when no adults were around, and after watching that show, I had this deep fear that I’d get caught on a hidden camera and the whole world (including my parents) would see me cussing up a storm.
MadameLeota604@reddit
When I was at the Gene Autry museum as a kid, there was something weird going on in the courtyard. Hidden cameras and odd things added. I stared at it for a while and told my parents who didn’t believe me. I saw it later on candid camera.

My dad was one of those kids back in the 60s. My mom often tried to find a tape of the episode, but it's long lost now.

I actually was on a game show as a kid! My class had a field trip to go to a taping of Fox's Fun House and I was one of the few of us that got to be in the show as well. I was in a segment where I had to reach into a mystery box, feel something gross, and then guess what food I was feeling. Need to see if I can track down that episode...I think my kids would get a big kick out of it.
The show that I REALLY wanted to be on though was Legends of the Hidden Temple.
elkniodaphs@reddit
I can't believe how poorly most of the kids performed on Nick Arcade. For the Video Challenge, these kids would either A: choose a garbage game... like, you could have picked Gun-Nac or Thunder Force 3, but for some reason you picked Green Dog. Or B: completely botch their gameplay challenge. I'm not trying to be critical, they're kids, but this was my authentic thought at the time as a kid myself, "If I was on this show, I'd do much better." That's easy to say from the couch, maybe I would crack under pressure.
That being said, I'd much rather appear on Starcade. It's like Nick Arcade with the gloves off. The prizes were better too.

I bought the DVD box set of the whole series and was thrilled that my son absolutely loved it it couldn't stop watching it.
