Engine on a 86' Volvo 244 is seized, worth a rebuild or swap it with a different RWD engine?

Car is currently a 3 speed auto, which i would already want to be a 4 speed auto min., engine is seized (guessing bc harmonic balancer + flywheel refuses to turn). Whats a good engine to swap it out with? a working B230FS is 2k$. Good recs for transmissions too would be nice, im only familiar with the automatics that came stock with the 5SFE. Is a rebuild feasible nowadays? I have no idea what parts support is like for the older volvos, this is the first one I've owned.

Volvo 240s have excellent parts support, there are a lot of swaps out there. The simplest would be a B230FT and AW71 trans out of a newer 740/940 turbo. It will bolt right in with the right engine mounts and won't require a lot to make it work in the car. Chip the ECU and EZK from the 740/940 turbo and you can get 250-300 HP with a few supporting mods. If you want to go manual, T5 swaps from 90s mustangs are common as most of the Volvo manuals can't handle higher HP.
I have a '90 240 that I plan on going this route with eventually

There is s reason LS swaps are so popular.
Ive got a bud with a mildly built 500hp LS 244 that I helped with the swap.
V8 volvos are a riot.

How about a turbo engine out of a different vovlo?

LS swap, of course

Rred blocks can be had for next to nothing. Easyish to build to 300hp
An engine swap will cost a bunch of money but will be easier to get to big power.
The obvious is an LS as there's already a lot of support for this engine in the chassis.
My favorite swap is the B6284t with a 8hp behind it, again, all the parts exist to do this.
