Feedback on some mock-ups to put my RTT on my truck when not in use on my car. Rack recs, ctr of gravity/balance? ‘91 Toyota 6’ bed

The bed and cab are separate and any articulation with the RTT over the cab that low is gonna be a problem. Keep it over the bed.

Oh, makes sense. Can you specify articulation over the cab that low? Like it flexing over toward the cab and causing articulation?

Precisely, the bed and cab will flex separately on the frame but if there's enough room between cab roof and rtt youll be fine. Concept 1 & 3 in your pics are a no go, especially 3, connecting the bed to the cab drip rails with a rack...oof.

Oh yeah, for sure the AI mock up did that there would definitely be a few inches between under the Cab roof, but I’ll likely keep it over the truck bed only.

if you're putting a rack that's connected to the bed over the cab, you need at least a couple inches of separation between the rack and cab to allow for flex

Oh right yeah the ai mockup did that. It would have a gap for sure, if I had it protrude over the cab roof.

I never seen anyone do slide 3 but I really like the look of it and having that space on the back of the bed would be really helpful for a ton of things.

That would be mostly for centering the weight across both axles, but it’s 130 pound tent so if it’s not necessary, I would prefer it to be over most of the truck bed. However, this one is about 1 foot longer than my truck bed. So having it hang over the tailgate or overlap, the Cab roof is the question of placement.

You’re definitely overthinking this you won’t really notice a difference.
I would go with whatever set-up you feel looks best and is compatible with how you want to store your gear.

Ok cool

Simple and clean. Love it

It's a truck, you won't notice it

Here’s what the truck looks like now. Slightly bigger tires, camper shell on. Would likely sell the camper shell if converted to overlanding rack.
