Memories! October, 1996 website creation that I believe used Front Page 1.1. I eventually paid $150 for FP 98. My code eventually showed: <meta name="GENERATOR" content="Microsoft FrontPage 5.0". Loved using the built-in Image Composer and also the publishing tool WS_FTP. Hosting was by ATT.NET and it was the bomb! Here's a link to a snip of that homepage with an extra nostalgic guestbook clip attached for grins: https://whisperingsanctuary.com/jpgs/front-page-creation.jpg

Needs more "Under Construction" gifs.

Sometimes!?

And GIFs of dancing babies and trumpet playing skeletons.

People seem to forget this when talking about the early internet. All the obnoxious advertising combined with slow speeds, and how easy it was to accidentally get a virus, made it pretty awful to use.
Maeglin75@reddit
Yes. Especially the MS Internet Explorer, that dominated the browser market, was a menace. But compared with today, all browsers were an open door for all kinds of attacks back then.

Woe be unto those of us who actually had to use (or interact with its output of) this colossal hunk of shit in a professional context. From a company replete with terrible software, this one stood above the competition.
mschnittman@reddit
I had that exact monitor - a long time ago, in a galaxy far, far, away.

With these GIFs, your website reminds me Homer's Web Page!
BiggestNizzy@reddit
I remember the days when you get 10mb of free webspace with your service provider. I did it on an amiga using a txt editor learning as i went by stealing "cool stuff" from other pages.

Awesome. Just want to add: all the comments are fantastic and I just wanted to add that you should also add a guest book. 😃

How am I meant to know what number visitor I am?
bwwatr@reddit
Or get linked to a random related site? Or leave my name and words of encouragement? :D
Grumpflipot@reddit
First thought: Are these "toolbars" for the browser, or the real content?
tooclosetocall82@reddit
The complete lack of accessibility is a nice touch.

To quote ELO, this is the way life’s meant to be.

Updooted for the excellent ELO deep cut.

Where's the visitor counter?

The space background with Windows 98 logo is sending me straight back to 1998, this is perfect period accurate web design.
TygerTung@reddit
I don't understand why there isn't a midi file playing, although to be fair, I think this feature has been depreciated from modern browsers.

Unreal Tournament classic :-) 😁

And Quake 3 Arena!
Counterstrike 1.6!

No music?

Oh I need to do this with the kids, they'll love it!
Also gives me an excuse to build an NT server to host it and do some silly DNS things.

I did not know Micron made monitors, cool.

Respect. Seriously, respect. I'd love to find a copy to use myself one day, to get the "full experience". (I have a compatible computer, thankfully)
I still need to make my own late 90s-looking website. It's pretty bland and corporate right now, with CSS that doesn't work properly at low resolutions.
gadget850@reddit
Does it have a splash page?
my-names-gavin@reddit
'Best viewed' with more browser toolbars for the authentic 1990s browsing experience but very nostalgic
carcenomy@reddit
Niiiice!
My personal page with my retro machines on it is all published using Frontpage 97, to The Serial Port's RaQ, with photos from my Mavica, from my Compaq '95 machine 😂
Using all the classic tools, it all makes so much more sense. I miss the old web.
LieboOSBA@reddit
Did you make this recently or did you make this 25 years ago and you just updated it recently?
joeysrnightmarefuel@reddit
I visited it, looks cool!
I like the photos section.

I don't see pizza.net anywhere lol

I had Frontpage. I made a whole website devoted to attacking my former employer. Clever domain name, a whole website with fake merch and lots of super cool animations. I dunno, not to get all waxy and nostalgic about it, but it was fun when it was all still the wild west online. It was all so cool (in a dorky way) and cutting edge. Today, any dolt can immediately post their stupid thoughts online, but you used to have to really make an effort to post your stupid thoughts online. Plus, you got to learn a soon-to-be-obsolete skill, too.
mr_dfuse2@reddit
now this is a website! no cookie banners i trust? i need this internet back
ghostchihuahua@reddit
wow the memories came rushing back… frontpage… 🤣
SpiritualZucchini938@reddit
You need marquee and blink tags in there 👍😊
MrKrueger666@reddit
Beautiful. Put it online, we need more old web
drinkintokyo@reddit
Add some frames and webrings and it will be perfect!
CraftedKittens@reddit (OP)
