TFB has an article and video on the G224.
The G224 is a prototype gas-operated, air-cooled, belt-fed LMG with a quick-detach barrel featuring trapezoidal cooling fins for better heat dissipation. The G224 has a STANAG magazine well, allowing compatibility with standard AR-15 magazines.

cooling fins are back

I wish we saw more golf ball barrels

Interesting that they went with the STANAG magwell to accept AR mags, a feature deemed incredibly irrelevant and needless on the Minimi/M249. It’s a feature that further complicates and jams up an already decent belt feed system.

The receiver is ridiculously tall likely because instead of doing what other people have done to have normal dual feed feature (negev and QJB-201), they somehow decided to have the gas system above the barrel. Also I don't understand why the receiver is also ridiculously long even considering using 7.62x51

Not everyday you see a gun that looks like nothing youve ever seen before

Indigenous designs in 2026? Holy shit this thing is cool

Here all week folks!
Quarterwit_85@reddit
That receiver looks about twice as tall as it needs to be?
Brown_Colibri_705@reddit
Doesn't look much taller than an Evolys. Belt-feds tend to be somewhat bulky.
Racer_Space@reddit
And a handguard as short as a CZ Scorpion Evo lol
IlyushinGoBrrr@reddit
That receiver looks tall as hell, almost as tall as FN EVOLYS.
SubstantialFly3316@reddit
That looks absolutely horrific to carry and manipulate.
Sevsix1@reddit
the gun it is replacing is the PKM so the gun don't need to be that much better than a PKM, they also have some M249 which is likely to be replaced too since this gun is about 6 kg and the M249 is 7.5 kg while the PKM is 9 kg which mean that the gun is lighter than both the guns (assuming of course that the information ain't complete bs)

I see this sub is now "SoonToBeForgottenWeapons".
Boots-n-Rats@reddit
Ah we’re back to “wtf is a hand guard” guns.
BallisticRicehat666@reddit
Very interesting looking design, is that a series of heat syncs along the barrel within the handguard? Haven’t heard of this gun before
Hakkaa_Paalle@reddit
Yes. Trapezoidal shaped cooling fins along the barrel. The gun is still a protoype.
GreenMan165@reddit
The front fell off
daehkciD-emoS@reddit
