how likely is it for NTTA to remove late fees?

hello everyone. i’m currently trying to pay down all my debt & the last on my list is my NTTA tolls.
i thought i only had 1 outstanding balance but i called today and apparently i have 2. my first one is from my old address for $460 and my current one (that i actually knew about) is $380. even when i made an online account they never shows the $460 balance so i had no idea about that one. i dont have much money to work with, but i really want to get right before any further action is taken from NTTA.
i’ve been seeing people say if you call them and ask them to remove the late/administrative fees, they will do that and allow me to pay only the tolls. when i called and politely asked the guy if they could help me with the late fees, he asked “why can’t you pay the whole amount? why do we need to remove the fees?” to which i replied i racked up late fees due to me getting laid off & now my current job cut my hours, but im doing my best to dig myself out of the hole. he told me for the $380 bill, i owe $170 in tolls and $210 in fees.
he said he would speak to his supervisor but couldn’t promise they would waive the fees. i told him i’d be willing to pay the $170 toll amount at that very moment, i had my card ready. when he came back, he told me they would allow me to pay $310 so they could only remove $70. i thanked him & told him i’d call back when i get paid again because i couldn’t afford $310 right now.
am i SOL? i’ve thought about calling back tomorrow to speak with someone else & maybe they’ll help me, but idk if they keep notes or something for my account & i won’t be able to get any more of the fees knocked off. he was kinda mean about it so i just left it alone for today but should i call back tomorrow & try again? or is it pointless?

I have always had good luck calling them and asking for forgiveness.

You'll get 100% better results if you go in person and actually meet with the people making the decisions.

yeah, i’ve seen some folks say that…i was hoping for luck over the phone, since the closest office to me is like 40 minutes away. but if i want some help, it seems i have to make that trip lol

You can call first and try, everytime I've contacted their customer support line they've been incredibly helpful. In my experience they'll work with you on the late fees, if you agree to pay the original toll and say maybe 10% of the total late fees they'll do that. Yeah, I'd do that first, explain the situation, and then if they can't bring it down enough that's when you'll probably have to make the trek in. Good luck friendo

i already called, that’s what my post was about. i called & the representative unfortunately told me they could only help me with about $70 in fees. so i will have to make the journey in person & hope for a better outcome! thanks for the good luck 🙂

Or contact their ombudsman program

$210 in late fees.
Bring back the coin toll booth. Id rather be forced to find another route than this shit. Can’t even trust any text about late fees anymore. 9/10 it’s a scam.
