hobbit_lamp@reddit
is this the one where Marge has a vacuum cleaner for her "weapon"?!
SteelpointPigeon@reddit
And she’s got bunny ears under her hair. Seriously!
Dead-O_Comics@reddit
Ah that's a cool Easter Egg.
I'm glad Groening ditched the idea of Marge being a rabbit/human hybrid.
SteelpointPigeon@reddit
Yeah. I liked Life in Hell as much as anybody, but I’m grateful that it didn’t explicitly bleed over into The Simpsons.
CheckYourStats@reddit
I played this so much in arcades. This, and TMNT got more of my quarters than any other two.
I was surprised to learn that both games were made by Konami, and share very similar engines. They play very similarly.
thewalruscandyman@reddit (OP)
Konami is by far my favorite develope/studio. Their arcade classics, as well as Castlevania, Contra, later on Silent Hill...they'll always be the Gold Standard for me. Followed by Activision (in the early days.)
thewalruscandyman@reddit (OP)
Totally.
And she's a beast. Besr character to fight with. 😁
__3Username20__@reddit
Like Donatello in most TMNT games - longest reach but same swing time!
thewalruscandyman@reddit (OP)
Exactly!
TMNT was also Konami. 😁
FoppyRETURNS@reddit
I usually died at Moe's and ran out of money
thewalruscandyman@reddit (OP)
Oh yeah. The admittedly clunky C64 controls don't make it easier either. 😝
bcentsale@reddit
I did not know I needed a SID rendition of the Simpsons' theme until this moment.
thewalruscandyman@reddit (OP)
Truth be told I want a SID cover of everything. 😃

It's still the most fun computer there is to me. I love typing in commands rather than simply clicking. 😄
BlueSnaggleTooth359@reddit
I do miss some of the charm of those days of home computing. For me it was Atari 800, but whatever.
(even the Amiga/Atari ST era was in some ways cooler too)
thewalruscandyman@reddit (OP)
The Atari 800 is near the top of my wishlist.
I have the "mini" but all that did was make me want a proper one more. 😆
BritOnTheRocks@reddit
I learned to program on my Atari 65XE, and I learned about hard drives, operating systems and building settlements on my Amiga.
S1ayer@reddit
My parents brought me over to someone's house to hang out with their daughter. All I cared about the whole time was that she had this game. And also a Sega Genesis with Sonic 2.
thewalruscandyman@reddit (OP)
Priorities...I get it.
this_knee@reddit
This would actually run on c64? The actual game play?
Or just the intro would run?
Seems far to complex to actually stay running and have game play that looks anything close to first Nintendo. I’m surprised these animations even work without a crash.
iheardthemetalclank@reddit
This is on a Commodore 64 Ultimate which was released quite recently. The specs are much more modern than the 1982 machine.
this_knee@reddit
Ah ok. That’d make much more sense then.
thewalruscandyman@reddit (OP)
That person has no idea what they're talking about. The C64U will not run anything the original couldn't. That's the point of the C64U.
thewalruscandyman@reddit (OP)
It actually won't run anything the original wouldn't.
thewalruscandyman@reddit (OP)
It actually does run, and surprisingly good for the 64.
RunEatRalph@reddit
Ha Ha (in Nelson voice). My son and I played through on that and I told him that probably would have been $20 if we'd played it in the arcade.
GutsAndBlackStufff@reddit
Can’t believe how good the c64 version looks.
WasteOfBerries@reddit
That SID chip is so friggin amazing that it'd outshine Jack Tramiel's rage on a bad day.
FoostersG@reddit
One of my core memories is for my 8th or 9th birthday party, we went to one of those arcade/batting cages/bumper cars/putt putt golf places. Went to play this game and upon starting it, realized that someone had loaded the game full of credits. 99 lives remaining. Spent my entire birthday party talking to no one, just playing this game. 10/10, would recommend
cpsdiablo@reddit
The only spot near me with this was Round Table Pizza.
thewalruscandyman@reddit (OP)
Oh nice! We had it at Pizza Inn here!
Bad-Habit-2020@reddit
Ahahahaha.... oh the simpler times!!!
se-dc@reddit
Wow, Lisa hadn’t even turned 8 when they made this
protossaccount@reddit
This sub is constantly a blast from the past. I haven’t seen this in ages
DaveinOakland@reddit
Me and my friends would take nickels, smash them with a hammer until they were the size of quarters, then play this. It only worked on a handful of machines but this was one of them.
thewalruscandyman@reddit (OP)
I am always in favor of cheating capitalists. 😁
smurfkillerz@reddit
remember putting a $5 bill in the change machine and feeling like you won the lottery and would be able to play games at the arcade forever? The nostalgia hits hard on that one.
thewalruscandyman@reddit (OP)
That waa living high on the hog, as my old man used to say.
audiate@reddit
Homer is 35…?
thewalruscandyman@reddit (OP)
Yeahhhh...when the show started most of us were younger than Bart, now we're older than Homer.
D'oh indeed. 😅
Liqwid9@reddit
I remember spending a whole roll of quarters at the Laundromat to beat this game from start to finish with my cousin. Best $10 I ever spent as a kid.
Traditional_Isopod80@reddit
Quarters aren't real!

Black Smithers was wild.

If you have an Apple TV or Google TV, check out some YouTube videos on RetroArch gaming. Retro Game Corps has excellent walkthrough videos. I’ve got Simpsons, X-Men, Mortal Kombat, Super Mario Kart, and so many more that I can play on my 60” TV with an 8Bitdo retro controller.
Daylight-Silence@reddit
I paid my hard-earned money to buy that game on Xbox 360 and then that Xbox died, as Xboxes are wont to do, and they took the game off the Marketplace. I remain bitter
thewalruscandyman@reddit (OP)
I'm with ya there.
While this is the Commodore 64 Ultimate that released last year, I have an original from '83 that still works. And a Laserdisc player from '82 that still works.
They build stuff to fail now. Anc have for at least 25 years.
Insomniac_80@reddit
I think that was the arcade video game. Did it come for a Commodore 64?
jessek@reddit
It didn't get a proper console release because Konami only had rights for arcade and computers, which is sad because the Acclaim games that got released on Nintendo etc sucked. We didn't get another good Simpsons video game until the 2000s when Road Rage and Hit n' Run were released.
teachersecret@reddit
I actually didn't realize it had a c64 port. I'm surprised it can run on the device.
thewalruscandyman@reddit (OP)
Yeah, in '91 it was ported to C64. And DOS I believe.
