where did the lil guys go? i kinda forgot they existed since its been so long since i saw one, probably over a decade.
GodsBicep@reddit
I see them fairly regularly in Cambridge. Badgers and deer too even in the city.
ChloeGoogle@reddit
Where do you see badgers most commonly? I’ve only ever seen dead ones during my lifetime so far. I’m desperate to see a living badger
rkr87@reddit
I had a badger on my garden last year, caught by the security camera - I'm in a fairly built up urban area too, my house backs on to a school field.
ChloeGoogle@reddit
Oooh I see. Nice sight to see
GodsBicep@reddit
I have insomnia so I walk around at 2 am

Okay

I see a flat one on the road pretty much daily which I hate to see.
A few years ago late at night I came off a roundabout and saw a whole family of them in the road in front of me. Stopped my car with hazards on and carefully shooed them along to the curb and helped them get up. The adult hedgehog as I pushed it up the curb and it started to walk off looked back at me like it was saying thank you. Always remember its little face and makes me smile.

About a week ago when I shifted some bits in the garden and uncovered one (didn't disturb them!)

A couple of months ago. I saw one in our front garden at 3am when I took our incontinent dog out for a wee. Luckily he was on the lead because he went nuts when he saw it. The hedgehog had rolled itself up into a ball. Then my pothead daughter saw one last year when she was in the back garden up to no good.
IndividualCurious322@reddit
Last year. He was huddled by some bins and nervous about the cars, so I picked him up, gave him some blueberries I'd grown and tilted him up so he could see the stars (probably his first time seeing them) then I walked with him held safe for about 5 miles until he was in a nice spot where cars wont hurt him and there's plenty of food for him to nibble.
BuncleCar@reddit
I've never seen one, not a living one anyway, but my dog was good at sniffing out rotting dead ones so she could roll in them :(
PressureChemical7237@reddit
Yeah, it was about a decade for me too. I used to feed a couple of them one year, captured on my trail cam. A lot of it is to do with fencing and them not being able to freely move across gardens. I’m sure there’s other environmental factors too though, sadly. I had a frog last summer and really hoping it’s just been hibernating.
Fluffy_Ad2274@reddit
I've never, ever seen a live one except for on television. Grew up very rural but had a badger's sett in the garden, so I assume that's why.
thebeardofbeards@reddit
We get them each year around May and June I think? This lil fella came though last year.
Namerakable@reddit
Last year. :(
I have a whole family of them who usually visit each night, but they haven't appeared this year.
MPD1987@reddit
I have never seen a hedgehog IRL
Porkus-Pius@reddit
That's incredibly sad. They used to be a common sight until around the early 90s.
Porkus-Pius@reddit
About 5 years ago and that was one my wife filmed in the garden. I've seen 3 in the last 20 years. When I was a child in the 70s and 80s, I'd see three or four a night. Then for a long time, I only saw dead ones flattened on the roads. Now I don't even see those. I've heard that their numbers have risen slightly due to conservation efforts so there is hope.
SoggyWotsits@reddit
Not yet this year, but every other year so far! They come to clear up under my bird feeders when the weather’s warmer. They also love to terrorise my dog.
Obvious-Water569@reddit
A couple of years ago.
I went out to bring our cat in and found her on the drive having a meeting with a hedghog.
EvilTaffyapple@reddit
We had one in our garden last September
Mesonychoteuthis@reddit
8 years ago, in Norway. I haven't seen one in the UK in about 15 years.
Anxious_wank@reddit
I hadn't seen any decades until this year, I live inner city. This year I disturbed one during the day that was hiding in the shed and I thought I'd thoroughly upset it and it had buggered off but I caught sight of another on in the garage the other week.
Pretty cool to see them around.
Growing up as a kid I'd see them quite a lot on the roads flattened.
BorderlineWire@reddit
Last year, they come and hang out in my garden sometimes
Hot-Pace-5745@reddit
I used to always find them on my way back home from the pub :DDD I haven´t seen one since COVID i thing!!! :D
artfulmonica@reddit
Last week, it was crossing the road in front of me. It was about 6.30am, they are nocturnal so you probably won't see them if you aren't about a stupid o'clock in the morning.
Pedantichrist@reddit
Yesterday!
OccidentalTouriste@reddit
Last week and that was the first one for years.

Few days ago I heard a noise so looked out the balcony door, security light was on and there was a lil hedgy scuttling about the lawn
GuybrushFunkwood@reddit
This morning bringing their food bowls back in I caught a straggler having one last drink before heading off to bed. We feed 4 that visit our garden
ASpookyBitch@reddit
A while ago, but there’s a small cemetery near me that I know they live in. However the cats also go in there so…
Sprogletto@reddit
July last year, I nearly killed it though by stepping on it as the poor thing had stopped just where you come out the front door and was emptying the bin. It was ok and ran off in the end after stopping for a while but did feel like one of those spiky and spongy doormats.

Not yet this year but there's a couple that I usually see during the summer

We have a lot where I live in West Yorkshire. We don't get them in the garden any more since we cat proofed it.
AbjectGovernment1247@reddit
Last week, but it was dead.
CarpeCyprinidae@reddit
I live in the Chilterns, still see them semi-regularly if out and about at dawn.

I was playing Sonic Racing an hour ago if you count that.
WhatsThePlanPhil95@reddit
oh, I don't think I've seen one IRL :(
Jumpy-Jello-@reddit
If you have a garden, making it a little more hedgehog friendly will really help them. They are endangered now so any bit of food/shelter makes a big difference!
Wolfstar_Forever_@reddit
As a primary school kid so maybe 7 years ago we found one alive. Saw one dead on the road maybe 4 years ago um...
Turbulent_Budget_338@reddit
a year ago at an animal event at uni😂 i love them so much
TheAlmightyProo@reddit
It's been a while actually, about 6 years.
There's a story to this one... My mum found this little fella out on the road outside my house so she scooped him up and brought him in. We called up the local hedgehog person... I guess you'd call them... but they couldn't help for a couple of days. No problem, between me and mum we've rescued and volunteered a bunch (cats, dogs, swans even and etc) so we find him a box, arrange food etc... he's in good hands.
I'm woken up in the early hours of the next night by the cat. I'm groggy, dismissive cos I think he's playing up again but he's so insistent... 'dude, WAKE UP, something's WEIRD'. Alright, alright... I'm trying to shake off the sleep. Then a sound approaching, what's that? As we watch this hedgehog strolls into the bedroom after negotiating the back room downstairs, kitchen, hallway and stairs. Walks past us as me and cat watch it and look at one another in surprise, 'are you seeing this...?'. Hedgehog just strolls on by with a purpose. I swear he damn near nodded at us, like 'evenin all'... gets into my discarded clothes, rolls up and dozes off. Sure, not as chaotic as the time I had to look after four very juvenile ducks (Iggle, Piggle, Dunk and Egg fwiw) in the house for a week but still...
Anyway, we got the little fella off to the expert the next day and last I heard he was doing great. But yeah, good point... I haven't had sight nor sound of a hedgehog for that long now and that is unusual. I hope it's not a bad sign for them and just me being less aware.
Motor-Command-2680@reddit
I have a shrubbery / bush in my yard. I assume they live in there as my motion cameras pick them up every year once they are active.
Thick_Suggestion_@reddit
Not recently... maybe 3/4 years ago I saw one in my garden. But bc there are a lot of stray cats nearby and I had a dog, I walked 2 miles to the nearest meadow/forest Place and let it go there.

Glittering-Nobody364@reddit
A few weeks ago, I saw my visitor, I have a video but I can't fathom how to upload on here
I frequently hear the cat bowl being tinkered with outside around this time of the night. Sometimes I will open the door and find a hedgehog with the cat food. They are noisy little eaters.
Last year we had a mummy hedgehog with her kids coming every night for their supper, 🤗
GeggingIn@reddit
Really lucky to have two who live under the decking. I still find it exciting when they come out for some cat food.
DLNN_DanGamer@reddit
At an old house of mine, found it in the garden. I haven't lived there for nearly 9 years, and it was a bit before that, so maybe 11 or 12 years ago.
