4Patriots Sun kettle

I ordered two of these; the 16 oz and the 32 Oz. You do need to account for leaving 2" for boiling, so understand that the full advertised capacity is a few ounces less than in real life.
I was impressed by these. It was a 75 degree today in early April in GA. I started it at 1448. At 1511, I realized that I was using it wrong to catch the full rays of the sun and readjusted. I had it set on my driveway while I did yard work . I did not pay it any more attention until my never do well neighbor asked about it. The water was boiling and now I know to do do my preps in the back yard.
I just poured the water out at 2100 for a cup of tea and it was piping hot.
I consider this a win. I have alternative methods of heating water, but this is passive opportunity and can be poured/maintainted into our old steel carafe. Absolute win!

Based on the brand name, I'm gonna assume their products are subpar.

I would never buy anything that has “patriot,” in its name or in the company name. It’s an obvious cash grab and likely some temu grade Chinese shit. At best the product is fine but the company has questionable to no morals and values.
Ryan_e3p@reddit
Yup. "Patriot", "Freedom", in the name, a logo/website that has US flags, eagles and whatnot scattered everywhere, if its a website that looks like it was built in Geocities, and.... Ya know, let me take a look at their website. And yup, it checks most of the boxes.
Sometimes I hate that I have ethical standards. I would've been ripping off a very specific target audience known for their inability to make rational purchasing decisions for years now. Could've easily been a millionaire.

Let's lose the 4Patriots brand. It is a simple parabolic heater that an older woman that is afraid of fire can use if other family members can't be there. She can heat soup and water until a sister or brother can get to her.
Your high and mighty ethics mean nothing in that light.

Lmao, I’m in the same boat. I really wanted to set up a little hatriot store and see stuff associated with that orange dickhead but I also don’t want to surround myself with those type of people day in and day out. Or decent people in the community start to think I support that shit.

I thought they were fantastic. They worked exactly as advertised.
Spiley_spile@reddit
This person tested it in a video in 110F temp day, and the water in the kettle didnt even reach 200F. These kettles sound like a $100 food-safety fail waiting to happen. https://youtube.com/shorts/zu9x7EaEW9s?si=SbWWyTiGaak1co5g
Also, when it's hot AF outside, Im not planning to eat hot food or drink hot beverages.
If I want to boil water, there are cheaper, more reliable ways of doing it.

Do share. I am learning, not Schilling. There is no need to make unfounded accusations.
Spiley_spile@reddit
I appreciate your reply. And Im sorry about that. It's a company that sells low quality products at a high markup to vulnerable, scared people. There are, unfortunately various brands and a lot of "Prepper" youtube channels that take advantage of people the same way. We tend to get our backs up when we think one's come in to advertise with a post.

I tend to look at items for ease of use. My sister is older and not as technologically savvy. If I'm stuck at the hospital in an emergency, I will be fed and have what I need. I need for her to have options that she is not afraidvto usevsince she is afraid of fire after a burn incident as a kid. Lose the '4Patriot' brand and it is a simple parabolic solar heater so she can heat water. Its perfect for her.

Can you tell us what the advantage of this is? You can build a multipurpose solar oven for a couple bucks. Put a black kettle in it and it will boil water. I can do more than a quart and things other than water. A thermos will keep it hot for quite a bit. Why would I spend a decent chunk of money on a unitasker?
Ancient-Claim-5487@reddit (OP)
Because it would be easy for my elderly sister to understand.
Tasty_Impress3016@reddit
Fair point. In stereo and home automation we call this WAF. Wife Acceptance Factor. In a prepping situation I tend to just think whatever, it's better than starvation or massive diarrhea.

Why provide the two start times if you don't even provide the time you noticed it boiling?
Ancient-Claim-5487@reddit (OP)
I was busy in the yard. It wasn't until he asked about that I checked at about 1707 and it was just starting to boil. Sorry that I didn't include that.

Why do you dislike your neighbor so much
GroundbreakingEar450@reddit
Sounds like their neighbor is one who can't mind their business.
Ancient-Claim-5487@reddit (OP)
I wish that was all it was.
OptimisticDoomCat@reddit
Nice. NE here and I tried these on a cold spring day - warm, but not hot. I ended up getting a Portuguese Sun oven instead

The GoSun? I was talking to someone at work last night and he was telling me how he did chicken wings in it.

This post is clearly a plug

Afraid not. Just new to this and this was my try at something solar and I was happy and excited to try something new.

My $.02... I saw the comments here, went to their web store. I found the price, it was on sale for $29! PLUS buy 1 get one free! Shipping was hefty at $15 for both, but ok. Was shipped very fast.
I filled one up with room temp water from a filter pitcher. Set up outside on my deck in bright sunlight, in SE GA Us. 50 minutes later, the water was too hot to put on skin, perfect for a cup of instant coffee for me, too hot for the wife.
Very glad I got the deal. Yes, yes, I also have butane for cooking, but this works well for us in our little camping trailer, only needing a little sunlight. I suppose you could make a little warm water for a shower with this too. I can get by with a 16 oz spray bottle if needed, when the next hurricane hits here in GA. :(
Ancient-Claim-5487@reddit (OP)
Glad you like it!
Yeah, I'm in Augusta. Got caught with my pants down in Helene. Never again. Now I've got to start playing with cooking with solar so I can conserve charcoal/butane/propane when I can.
Potential-March-1384@reddit
I also have one and have tested it, boils water in a location that is geographically perfect for something like this. YMMV but I appreciate the redundancy and ability to boil water without needing fuel or building a fire.
7o7A1@reddit
i like the concept and the execution and the price is okay too. yes, this is def a win.
onurfayce@reddit
I got a new one off someone from fb marketplace but haven’t had a chance to try it out yet. I’ll have to time it this weekend to see how long it takes to get to a boil
NateT86@reddit
why do you hate 'merica bro
Jolopy4099@reddit
Saw these at an estate sale but didn't pick them up. Was worried about how well they worked. Glad they work well for you.
