After 47 years is April fools day the most annoying holiday there is?

Logical-Cherry9395@reddit
Ehhh, as an Atheist, I gotta go with Easter.
whitea44@reddit
Usually it’s harmless, but some bad apples can spoil it, just like any other holiday. The people who drink and drive on NYE, the kids that throw eggs and TP on Halloween, cleaning up fireworks the day after Diwali. The celebrations themselves are fine, but make sure you’re not overdoing it, be courteous and think of others and don’t be a douche. They’re all fine.
Thamnophis660@reddit
No, Christmas will always be the most annoying holiday. April Fools is just the day where most news articles are even more outlandish bullshit than usual.
Basic-Biscotti-2375@reddit
I saw way too many corporate social media posts like "Hi, kids! Company here introducing this awesome product that's actually plausible and everyone would buy but it's really a joke so get bent"
FluffySpell@reddit
I got an email a couple years ago from Brooks "introducing" light up running shoes. Got super excited because as a whole ass adult I would ABSOLUTELY buy light up running shoes then I saw it was just an April Fool's joke. Cue disappointment.
chappyfu@reddit
I never had issue with it until this year- it sems like every company on the planet thought it would be hilarious to do posts and memes for their business and I just did not find it funny to make a post saying something along the lines of " as of today we no longer produce x an an x compnay we flipped 180 and now produce Y".... idk I just hate it .
FluffySpell@reddit
Those are especially annoying now that none of our feeds are in chronological order anymore and the algorithm shows us stuff whenever the hell it wants so you see the post two days later and it makes even less sense.
Santa_Hates_You@reddit
It is a weird day for me. It was my sisters birthday and she would have been 47 this year, but she passed 20 years ago. I am never in the mood for an April Fools prank.
WorldlyAmphibian7474@reddit
Reading this gave me a chill. My brother would have been 47 on April Fools Day. He passed away twenty years ago too.
Santa_Hates_You@reddit
Well we have something oddly sad in common. I miss the hell out of her, she was my only sibling. Sorry you lost your sister, hope you are doing well otherwise.
WorldlyAmphibian7474@reddit
Thank you. I’m sorry you lost your sister. I lost my brother, he was my only sibling as well. I was three years older than him. He left behind two sons. They’re grown now. I’ve tried to remain as close as possible to them. Santa hates you too.
brakeb@reddit
same for me as well... got married on 01 April... but all the bullshit 'lol news' stories...
moles-on-parade@reddit
A friend lost both his parents to a drunk driver on April 1st back when we were in college. When I heard, I thought it was a terrible joke. Every year I think of them.
merkci@reddit
I learnt of my dad’s suicide on April 1st, so SAME. Also had to put my cat down on that day three years later. Salt in the wound.

April 15th. Tax day.
Healthy_Radish@reddit
Not even slightly, the random pinching on st Patrick’s is the worst.
WendyPortledge@reddit
Pinching? I’ve never heard of that!
Healthy_Radish@reddit
Mostly happens in school but some never grow out of it and you have 40+ yr olds pinching your arm for not wearing green for st Patrick’s day.
WendyPortledge@reddit
Glad that was never a thing at my school.
red286@reddit
Yeah, closest to that I had at my school was Tdap vaccine booster shots day in grade 9, also known as "purple shoulder day". Everyone got a shot in the same spot (right shoulder), and then all day long all the guys went around punching each other in the shoulder because it hurt like a bitch. Eventually, the bruising from being punched in the shoulder 50+ times was worse than the needle.
BarrelFullOfWeasels@reddit
There are just enough people who still do it at our age that every damn year I have to try to remember, "gotta wear my green shirt or some schmuck is gonna pinch me." It doesn't make me appreciate the holiday.
kristosnikos@reddit
I hated the pinching so much! This happened mainly in elementary school and some years St. Patrick’s Day was forgotten.
I was always super confrontational as a kid so if someone pinched me out of the blue, I’d just punch them.
alysli@reddit
I am SO glad I didn't grow up in an area that did that. I learned about it when I got online and I was completely gobsmacked.
CookieNo310@reddit
Idk. I'll let you know in 5 years. Haha. But, to be honest. I didn't run into any shenanigans this year at all.
SilverAsparagus2985@reddit
My exes bday is a few days later, that’s the true April fools day. Yall have been fed too much dis and misinformation lol
sundayfunday78@reddit
I have an ex who’s birthday is April 1 - he is a joke. At least that’s what his mother told me 😆
I also have an ex who played a prank that went wrong and left me in a full anxiety attack.
Not a big fan of April 1
elphaba00@reddit
It's my dad's birthday. He is the last person in the world who needs to have it as a birthday. He's got a sense of humor, but not a pranking, haha kind of humor.
Apparently the story is that my grandma was really trying to get him out on March 31, but went a couple of hours past midnight. And when my grandpa went to work that day, he told everyone that his son had been born. And all his coworkers thought it was an April Fools Joke. So my dad is like, "I guess I started out as a joke."
ShivvyMcFly@reddit
The internet ruined it
Workamania@reddit
It's less annoying this year. The past decade was full of A/B testing from companies to see what products they could make. Gmail actually had AI writing emails for people as a prank. Now we just accept predictive text and AI tools. I didn't see a lot of that. Top Ramen X Butterfinger this year was amusing.
Acceptable-Fold-3192@reddit
It’s annoying but I’m also not a fan of New Year’s Eve/Day.
SadAcanthocephala521@reddit
April fools is a holiday now?
Vash_85@reddit
Most annoying? No... Most annoying would go to Valentines Day.
Primary-Strawberry-5@reddit
Father’s Day. It’s cool that my kid thinks positively of me, but I don’t deserve a special day for it.
Icy-Lifeguard-6206@reddit
I'm gonna go controversial and say: no, Christmas is, because it now seems to start in late August
bajunio@reddit
Remember when life was a bit more mundane? Now I'm just tired of every day feeling so foolish that I cannot appreciate the holiday at all.
Epicardiectomist@reddit
yes, no one seemed enthused about April Fool's at all this year. I don't know anyone that even tried to prank someone, or even cared to talk about it.
TorchThisAccount@reddit
It's hard to have any April Fools when the shit in the news is so crazy that any April Fools is tame. The new Elder Scrolls is coming out, April Fools... Whatever, I'm more concerned about gas going to $6 a gallon and if someone is insane enough to glass a nation...
CottaBird@reddit
Once The Onion became the news, April Fools felt irrelevant.
But if our new house has a spray hose at the kitchen sink, you bet your ass I’m going to aim it out with the bitten taped down for when my wife turns on the water. I may not be alive to do it a second time, though.
No_Custard_6481@reddit

Imaginary-Sell6919@reddit
We are at 6.57 a gallon for 85 octane out here in rural California.
HeyCarpy@reddit
I think that might be what it is. I just don’t have the mental real estate for the bullshit at this point.
TopherYork21@reddit
As an American I feel like I have lived in permanent April fools since 2020. But ya I call it stay off the internet day. Then check posted dates on stories for the next week.
Aezetyr@reddit
Columbus Day is more annoying, especially given the facts about that sicko.
the_kid1234@reddit
Yes, but it’s not as bad as it used to be a few years ago. There was a time when every company had to put out a lame joke on 4/1 and the worst was when they persisted so you’d find something in October and think “wait, what?”
WendyPortledge@reddit
Still happening. Still extremely annoying. Saw a post today and thought oh cool! Wait.. no, it’s an April fools post I’m seeing late for a thing we would actually want but they’re joking about.
WendyPortledge@reddit
Businesses should not be participating in it. It’s always been my most hated day. I tried a prank once when I was 7 and got in so much trouble I never did again. Especially with internet, we have zero need for this sort of day.
Dimplefrom-YA@reddit
i don't celebrate it.. nor do i know anyone who does.
jackfaire@reddit
Meh honestly it stopped mattering in my life after I hit adulthood. No one in my life ever really made a big deal of it.
Coakis@reddit
It was less annoying when everyday wasn't a guessing game as to whether you're purposely being fed misinformation or what you're reading is some AI hallucination.
I hate the fact that I have constantly question even the news coming from what was a trusted News organization.
histprofdave@reddit
Every day is April Fools Day now...

Like most things, once larger businesses started treating it as a "fun, quirky way" to drive engagement it just got fucking exhausting.

Christmas is the most annoying holiday. I just keeps getting longer every year. People decorating their houses on November 1st what the heck!?!
Dickrubin14094@reddit
It’s always been a pointless and annoying day
Striking-Access-236@reddit
Every day feels like April Fools' Day these days...
LardLad00@reddit
No that title easily belongs to Christmas
iheardthemetalclank@reddit
Whoa, whoa, whoa… I’ll get behind Valentine’s Day, Easter, April Fools, St. Patrick’s Day, maybe even Thanksgiving being obnoxious, but Christmas is the best time of year next to Halloween. I’m not even religious.
LardLad00@reddit
Christmas takes over society for like 3 months now.
The only good thing about Halloween was that it was the last frontier keeping Christmas at bay, but even that seems to be failing.
Christmas would be fine if we could deal with it for maybe 2 weeks but it's practically the whole fourth quarter and I'm fucking done with it.
iheardthemetalclank@reddit
I can get behind it being excessive and I hate seeing it creep into stores so early, but I try not to be cynical and celebrate it in my own way. December 14 to January 14 is my window before we take down the tree. My grandparents were Swedish-American and there a lot of nice traditions they had that I maintain. Decorating, picking out thoughtful gifts, pajamas and coffee on Christmas morning, hoping for snow, watching movies (no lutfisk). It’s a nice break from the rest of the year to think about your family and escape the doldrums of winter. It also helps to have a kid who still finds it exciting and magical.
Again, I’m not religious, nor do I like or get caught up in the consumerism. It’s just nice if you want it to be.

Blando-Cartesian@reddit
It used to be fun. This year I seriously didn’t even notice because how the heck would you tell an April’s fools story from regular news. There could be a headline “Elon Musk gets funding to colonize the Sun” and it’s perfectly plausible.
blove135@reddit
I squeezed the last bit of fun out of it when my kids were little
OasisHomeostasis@reddit
If in the states, gonna go with 4th of July and its not even close.\ Bonus if you have pets.
Dextropic@reddit
I dunno, kid. I mean, have you seen what Christmas is like?
Comprehensive-Fact94@reddit
St. Patty's day for me. The way it gets celebrated in the US is borderline racist and no one seems to give it a second thought.
Columbus day is kind of the opposite side of that coin. It's viewed as racist because Columbus was a pretty bad guy. But my understanding is that its original intent was to celebrate Italian-American heritage at a time when Italian immigrants were being violently attacked in large numbers. It was named after Columbus because he was the only Italian name most Americans knew.
5WattBulb@reddit
I always liked st. Patty's day for that reason actually. With all of the cultural appropriation it always seemed to me that the Irish just didnt give a shit. Dress in green, get drunk and be as sterotypically Irish as you can, as long as everyone is having a good time. Not like other religious holidays where if you arent as ambiguous in being festive or "seasonally excited" everyone gets offended by something.
sidneyjoy@reddit
St. Pats would have been my answer but now that I don’t manage a bar anymore, it’s not as painful. All the green vomit has become a faded memory.

Valentine's day is far more annoying. It needs to be changed to the St Valentines day massacre and be a second Halloween.
datbackup@reddit
In the always-online “post truth era” April Fool’s Day is decidedly in poor taste, no matter how tasteful the prank might seem.
But even before that, if you understood the origins of “April Fool’s day” it has always been a vulgar and disgusting thing, even if most people who participate have no idea how the practice started.
Unusual-Minimum9306@reddit
Hey! I’m still only 46 for another 5 weeks thank you! You’re the old one!
Upstairs-Kale-3794@reddit
I'm going with Easter.
You have real Christians pretending that the stupid Easter Bunny shit is interesting and fun and not at all an affront to the meaning of the holiday, and you have fake Christians that love the lame egg/bunny bullshit and pretend they give a fuck about other human beings at all, let alone care about Christ in the slightest. The weather always sucks in late March/early April, at least in the North USA, and everyone's outdoor plans always backfire. You have family get togethers that are just as uncomfortable as Thanksgiving, but without alcohol which is the only way you can even get in the same room as Uncle Ed. And among the most devout celebrators of Easter, the people that claim to love Jesus the most, you'll have discussions about how they think the brown people are wasting all the welfare money and should be cut off for being lazy, however the only job they have is half-time church youth pastor because a secular job is "just not 'them'."
Far-Bumblebee-7216@reddit
It’s a toss up between that and 4th of July- the stupid olympics between the two really.

alanblah@reddit
Loved it for a long time. My family like to prank eachother and fun ways and even had some co-workers that would get in on it some years. The internet kinda made it stupid. Although this year I would've never had known it was april fools day.
The most annoying holiday for me is Easter. What a fucking waste of a Sunday.
No_Parking_4195@reddit
Yeah, I don't care much for April 1st, March 17th, or October 12th. I'm just too old and tired to give any energy to them. Probably others that I'm just not thinking of.
Timmy12er@reddit
I'd rather have an April Fool's Day than a Valentine's Day.
AshDogBucket@reddit
No. April fools has basically no impact on me at this point. There are far more annoying holidays.
Valentine's day is the first that comes to mind. 4th of July. The consumerism of Xmas. Thanksgiving, celebrating colonialism.
Honestly most holidays annoy me because of how other people seem to think i need to celebrate them. April fools is one of the only ones where no one seems to care whether icelebrate or not, so it's less annoying.
BigBubbaMac@reddit
It's always been a dud for me. Now all holidays are becoming that way.
grassparakeet@reddit
April Fools was fun back when it was about pranks.
At some point, I feel like in the early 2000s, it started to shift from pranking to just plain lying. Since it's easier just to lie than to come up with a silly prank, that cascaded and it turned into just "April Make Shit Up Day."

Not a holiday
Seriously, fuck these "everyday is a holiday". Unless it's a federal holiday it's not a "holiday".
Just googling today:
Key April 7 Holidays & Observances
World Health Day: A global initiative to focus on health issues.
National Beer Day: Commemorates the 1933 Cullen-Harrison Act which legalized beer in the US.
National No Housework Day: Encourages taking a break from chores.
National Coffee Cake Day: A day to enjoy this breakfast pastry.
International Beaver Day: Celebrated to honor the animal's role in nature.
SAAM Day of Action: Sexual Assault Awareness Month action day.
None of these are "holidays"

I generally don’t mind it. I have built a life where the deepest prank I got was my boss texting me that he was going to come in so we could work together on some new nonsense that isn’t my job description, but 15 minutes after I got to work, he sent an April fools gif, so it was just a normal day.
Other than that, it entertains my nibblings, who don’t fully grasp it, so they just say crazy stuff and yell “April fools” and give themselves bouts of the giggles while I silently contemplate how much work it would take to convince nasa to accept two little kids and send them to the moon. That is really it. Or, this year, they decided the best April fools joke was creating this long and quite insane story that they decided sounded legitimate about their parents driving school busses in their spare time, not knowing that’s a special license I know none of the parents have. But I pretended to believe it so I could be appropriately “crushed” when they revealed it was a joke. The cool part is how creative they are. The story had some crazy twists and turns that defy reason, but they thought it was internally coherent and logical (it actually was for a fantasy piece), therefore Aunt Tangled would clearly buy the hogwash.
It was quite entertaining.
Outside of that, I am generally around grown folks who don’t pay any attention to 4/1 either.

I don’t know what my fellow xennials are talking about, aprils fools and spring picture day are the most hilarious two days ever. Especially if you teach middle school. Spring picture day is just a chance for kids to maybe have a glow up and get a better picture, or those silly kids to dress just ridiculous enough not to get in trouble.
With April fools, it’s always fun and I love it even more when a non-English speaker tries to get me and they say “boo! April One! HAH! Got youuu!!!” And you just play along.
Broad_Food9658@reddit
My 16 year old son text messages me while I was at work. “Yo dad the boiler is making a weird noise and is leaking water from the bottom…” I curse out the boiler over the phone, wonder why this shit always happens when I’m not home and begin calculating what this will cost in my head. FaceTime time him back and before he picks up I realized mf-er got me good. He’s cracking up dying on the other end. Mad dad on April fools just standing there looking like a bozo. I work in broadcasting, and when I was younger in the industry in the late 90's-2010's there was heavy April Fools Day culture at radio and TV stations.
I think in the small number of cases where everyone is into it, the boss is cool being picked on, and it's harmless - then its a pretty funny day, lotta laughs. Doing on-air stunts was fun. Country stations slipping in Crazy Train during the morning show. Flipping everything in our GM's office to face the opposite direction.
But that's not usually the case, and yes, it is quite annoying 90% of the time. I think people just don't generally have time for BS in their lives because there's so much of it as it is. In 1998 and 2007, we had the time.

Consequently, the Liberty Bell would from here on out be known as the Taco Liberty Bell.
My mom was super mad, she even called up our congressman's office. And the congressional staffer was like no no, I'm sure that's not true-- but then they found the ad and freaked out, too.
By then, though, my mom had figured out that it was April 1st and realized the whole thing was a prank.
But that was the last time I appreciated an April Fools gag.

I just assume anything that seems abnormal to be the joke at this point and don't pay any mind to it
Character-Ganache187@reddit
Power Plant Day is way worse
bigg_beef@reddit
Yes. A day for the unfunniest idiots on the planet to make terrible, obvious jokes without skill, humor, or talent.
MotherofaPickle@reddit
No? Because no one “celebrates” it.

It’s not a holiday…???
--Citation-Needed--@reddit
Definitely. I hate it. Why is it ok to lie to people on that one day?
FratboyZeida@reddit
For fun!
/jk its stupid - the more people ignore it, the better
OkTechnology9101@reddit
Yes and I especially hate it as a prankster. The element of surprise is one of the funniest parts of a prank. I expect to be messed with on April 1st. That's no fun.

On April 1st I had a coworker send a long email telling us how his team was finally getting around to delivering something that we have been anticipating and wanting for a while. It was going to be delivered some time in early Q3 and I was so excited! Then he stays getting into specific details about it and nothing felt off. Then at the very end he basically said “As you have probably guessed…April Fools!” I’m like, dude, I feel like you may not get how this holiday works…I was (and am still) infuriated that this is somehow funny?
VinylHighway@reddit
I'd honestly report a co-worker for that
Very unprofessional
LineImpossible3958@reddit
I wouldn’t call it a holiday, it’s like Groundhog Day of Flag Day, they exist but no one really cares except school children and weird adults
MirthRock@reddit
The internet made it particularly annoying.
throwawayfromPA1701@reddit
Eh. Xmas is way more annoying for me. April Fools Day is just my sister's bday.
Coitus_lnterruptus@reddit
Oh man, my wife offered me some sex the other day, I got real excited, then I realized it was April 1st.
No-Atmosphere-2873@reddit
Festivus. You have no idea.
Sad-Structure2364@reddit
Yes, I was just telling my wife that it’s such an obnoxious “holiday” that I just want to skip the whole stupid day
CaptShrek13@reddit
The next 2 or 3 days are the most annoying. That's when all the headlines slowly make their way into my feeds.
dominator5k@reddit
I would say Christmas is way way worse.

Humbug.
