This was actually the reality in the aftermath of the USSR collapse. Piles and piles of bricks were literal currency.
(That’s when the rich people bought up all of the USSR’s assets and became the oligarchy we know today).

Money is a very good tools.
It is universal. You don't need to exchange it with middleware goods/services.
With brick, you just move the issue.
We become society that can't survive alone.
We need specifics resources, which aren't available everywhere because the earth isn't equally made (and so us). With that, the knowledge may not be available everywhere as well. We have very deep knowledges which is impossible for everyone to get, because there is so much of then.

It completely fails to do the thing that currencies are meant to do, which is be easily convertable (into other goods) and transportable (physically moved).
A single brick costs less than a dollar. Where the hell are people supposed to store all of these useless bricks they'd be getting every week?

If you were to do that, and the grocery stores would not accept bricks for payment, the people would end up eating bricks. And if people were to keep eating bricks, next thing you know, people would be sh*****g bricks.
