The 1969 Brubaker Box sought to modernize the iconic Volkswagen Minibus using the chassis of a Volkswagen Beetle. Three original Boxes were completed before production ceased. It was designed in the early 1970s by Curtis Brubaker, with Todd Gerstenberger and Harry Wykes.

My all-time favorite iteration of the Brubaker Box is the custom version from the TV show Ark II.

Awesome show

The wild part is what kind of a mark that show left on us when it only had 15 episodes.
Striking_Reindeer_2k@reddit
Only 15? Wow we really did have the memory of Goldfish. It seemed like so much more.
Scooby Doo had only 2 seasons too. But we watched them over and over. Until they made more years later.

Bigfoot and Wildboy, Shazam and Isis, Electra Woman and Dyna Girl - it's amazing how much these shows stick with you when you could literally watch every episode of each of them in just a few days. There really wasn't that many episodes of them.

The Roamer!

if the door was on the driver's side these would have done better
DMala@reddit
I sort of wonder if a single door vehicle is even street legal. It’s not ideal in a crash or especially a fire.
Brubaker Box is still cool as shit, though.

Bmw isetta?
theonetrueelhigh@reddit
Just the one door... but it's the whole front!
Fun fact, Isetta were all ragtops specifically for the purpose of providing an alternative exit if the front was too damaged to open.
wbks@reddit
If the front was damaged so were at least the legs of the driver.
theonetrueelhigh@reddit
Yes and no. You can mess up the door enough to jam it tight without squashing your legs. But nothing about the car is heavy duty; anything more than a low speed fender bender and you could be in a serious hurt.

I LOVE the look of these little things; I drew several of them just for fun, trying to get the contours just right. I wish they'd make a Hot Wheels, or a model kit, or just make them full-sized! https://www.tumblr.com/jrbowenglorifieddoodles2/803858927721873408/brubaker-series-inspired-by-rodimus-prime-of-the

As awesome as that looks, I'm wondering how prone to snap oversteer it may get being rear wheel, rear engine.

Le design est fantastique ❤️

I have one of these Brother portable 8-track stereos, never seen one installed in a car before
edenspark10@reddit
That looks awesome, please say that the blueprints are accessible or that someone has made a replica.
WizeAdz@reddit
A modern version of this using a Nissan Leaf drivetrain would be a fun kit-car!
edenspark10@reddit
Agreed
bryanthehorrible@reddit
That screams 1969. Probably would have never survived the 1970s auto safety requirements
Rainbike80@reddit
It was based on the vw bus....not exactly the pinnacle of safety.
bryanthehorrible@reddit
At least the bus had bumpers.

r/WeirdWheels for the win!
LordTalesin@reddit
It's very cool looking. But it is also very short. Modern trucks will run you over and never see you.
Soft_Experience_1312@reddit
Best looking van, period.
marko_kyle@reddit
Ive seen these before but I never saw someone standing next to it for perspective, I thought they were alot bigger! How neat!
TiredOfBeingTired28@reddit
Always will want one, or reproduce it full EV, or tiny range generator ev.
Ace_Robots@reddit
Looks rad as hell. I bet you could get a solid bake going in one of those.
Some_Conference2091@reddit
Very unique.
AdmiralThunderpants@reddit
There was a recent effort to make a modern one but I guess it went nowhere.
Interesting_Dingo_88@reddit
Man, yet another post here that really needs to become a Hot Wheels release!
thnk_more@reddit
Love that design.
