Who could have seen this coming?😐
Miserable-Biscotti54@reddit
Hasn’t our infrastructure been compromised for years now? Even before Covid there were reports of this going on.
Objective-Rip3008@reddit
Virtually none of this stuff has any kind of security. The only thing keeping people away is the potential of sanctions and the fbi, like the group of hackers that got a pipeline a while back then immediately apologized saying they didn't mean to start a international incident and didn't understand what it was. Of course if you're in a literal war neither of those apply. https://www.theverge.com/2021/5/10/22428996/colonial-pipeline-ransomware-attack-apology-investigation
Young_Link13@reddit
Fwiw that's a 5 year old example and infrastructure security does exist.
"Virtually none of this stuff has any kind of security" is simply incorrect.
Is it the best? That's debatable, and highly depends on where/what infrastructure. Security upgrades are usually risk based (ie nyc will have way better controls than bumfuck WV)
HommeMusical@reddit
The idea that utility companies, who are notoriously decades behind the curve, are investing money in sophisticated infrastructure security is extremely hard to believe.
Got any sources for your claim?
Young_Link13@reddit
You're talking to someone who works in cyber security. It's common knowledge that the DoD stepped in/helped pay for security upgrades over the last 10 years on critical infrastructure. If they didn't, you would have more problems to reference.
Do you have any certifications, experience, or sources for your why you can't believe that our infrastructure security has improved?
HommeMusical@reddit
Oh, it has improved a little: from C- to C.
https://infrastructurereportcard.org/
A C is not the flex you think it is.
Unfortunately, the last two US budgets, particularly the one that's on the table now, dramatically cut the spending for infrastructure that got a brief boost during the Biden administration.
No, I'm talking to an anonymous person on the Internet who claims to work in cybersecurity but can't actually spell the name of their field correctly, and makes unsupported claims.
And even if it's true, how does that make you any sort of expert on infrastructure in general? The vast majority of infrastructure in the US are things like power lines, roads, bridges, water systems, dams, and such.
Young_Link13@reddit
Nobody said I'm an expert on infrastructure security, nor was flexing saying we are "good." I was checking you, bc there are a lot of people who love to speak out of their ass on reddit when they aren't even close to the subject matter irl. (& It was obvious you needed to do some research)
I'm glad you took all this time to educate yourself and come to agree with me that:
a) our security exists
b) we are trying to improve it
HommeMusical@reddit
You should work on your reading comprehension.
Young_Link13@reddit
Read your first sentence, bub.
HommeMusical@reddit
Work on your reading comprehension, "bub".
Really - work on your reading comprehension, it's really bad.
Young_Link13@reddit
Cut spending =/= it's not there or not improving.
Also, that's at the federal level which was ancillary assitance to the infrastructure that needed it.
I'm not going to debate things you obviously don't understand. Have a good day, kid.
Objective-Rip3008@reddit
It's a 5 yr old example because Noone is stupid enough to go around doing that. Your local utilities provider is not dropping the kind of cybersecurity cash it would take to repel a motivated group.
GrillinFool@reddit
Yes and no. Any utility provider with a nuclear facility has impeccable security. The problem is the grid is made up of many utilities. Some of the small ones don’t have near the budget or mandate to be as secure as they need to be.
**Former IT guy for a utility with a nuclear facility.
Young_Link13@reddit
Maybe not yours...
Again, it's risk-based spending. Major Cities definitely do and their infrastructure definitely does.
pin5npusher5@reddit
If its debatable...no one is sure. These are such unwieldy, Frankenstein systems that there are flaws and failpoints everywhere. There needs to be peace bc nothing is built for protection from wartime threats, this just sucks
Blueporch@reddit
The story years ago was that you could crash the grid with a laptop and a Pringle’s can. Hopefully they’ve secured the holding pond sensors by now.
thesnazzyenfj@reddit
Yup. Lights Out by Ted Koppel is a good insight to what's gonna happen.
squidwardTalks@reddit
Whoops, I read the wrong Lights out.
imkeepingsummersafe@reddit
I’m not sure if you’re the person that had mentioned this book previously in this sub, but I read it based on that recommendation and am grateful if it was you.
thesnazzyenfj@reddit
Its entirely possible it was me because I tell everyone who will listen and has the capacity to read a chapter book, to read it, lol
HappyAnimalCracker@reddit
Same here. It’s a little bit dated at this point because the situation has gotten even worse since he wrote it but boy oh boy- what he laid out is bad enough. Anyone who’s dismissive of grid fragility concerns has not read this book. It’s a real eye opener. It’s also available on audiobook.
thesnazzyenfj@reddit
Audiobook was how I managed to finish it and then I went back and listened to the whole thing again in audio book for good measure. The time to prep for infrastructure failure was last decade.
candlecup@reddit
I need to read that
Chucking100s@reddit
Yes, but it was compromised by China and Russia who are not formally in the war.

The call is coming from inside the house. I don't think anyone can predict what the false flag is going to be. But I think we have reasons to be suspicious of anything they tell us.
ShortStoryIntros@reddit
Was this the plan??
To provoke an enemy to destabilize the US so that they can control the elections via "Security" measures in order to stay in power?
HommeMusical@reddit
There is no plan. It's a series of bad improvisations by a clinical psychopath.
Ok-Pollution8344@reddit
He tried to start a civil war and failed at that. Figured if he started an international war he could use martial law to postpone elections.
Girafferage@reddit
potentially. Or just "whatever Israel says"
TrumpIsAPedoFascist@reddit
More like "whatever Putin says"
Israel sees the writing on the wall and is just trying to use their military while they still got it.
ninjaluvr@reddit
Or the Saudis. They've been giving billions to the Trump family and hate Iran more than Israel.
Faroutman1234@reddit
Claude can probably walk through the firewalls of these things like a revolving door. I'm surprised nothing has happened yet.
stillinform@reddit
U-Haul’s system is down
WallStreetAnus@reddit
Heh. When I rented from them months ago their system was slow early in the morning. I think their system is just poorly designed.
unknownpoltroon@reddit
Or is this just an excuse to keep bombing Iran?
HelpfulNobody@reddit
My well, septic, and power are all working juuuuuust fine. Nice try though
tsr6@reddit
Got a generator?
Significant_Donut967@reddit
I wonder why.....
bigvicproton@reddit
Seriously. I'm surprised they haven't done more than that already. This is how you get a new 9-11.
ProlapseMishap@reddit
Don't worry we have decades to worry about that now...
RhinoPillMan@reddit
Invade Middle Eastern country. Murder countless civilians. Lose the war. Civilians there get pissed, organize, and attack us. Rinse and repeat. Except this time it’s against fucking Iran. Not some guerrillas, not some small weak nation.
ClonedDad@reddit

Oh dear...I sure hope they don't pass those financial losses on to the consumer.

Gas is up 20 cents from yesterday.
SeVenMadRaBBits@reddit
Radiation from a nuclear explosion can travel around the world. While the most lethal fallout is concentrated within 10–20 miles of the blast, lighter radioactive particles and gases are carried high into the atmosphere, circulating globally for years before settling.
RhinoPillMan@reddit
I knew I should have bought those 40mm NBC filters. Guess the P100 respirator is gonna have to do. No underground infrastructure here either, the ground is too wet. It was nice knowing y’all.
Psychological-Big334@reddit
Hell yah.
DissedFunction@reddit
maybe they can focus on MAGA owned corporations & states vs the rest of us appalled by the pedo class.
neontetra1548@reddit
Seems reasonable.
