Do you own an expensive pillow and was it worth it?

I seem to have lost the ability to sleep in a comfortable position. Have any of you bought an expensive pillow and did it actually help your sleep?
PhillyDeeez@reddit
Highly recommend these
https://amzn.eu/d/0aXerdhu
Adjustable as well so you can get it exactly how you want it.
Sad-Insurance1313@reddit
For the price I've just given this a bash on your recommendation & it'll arrive tomorrow!
Been looking at sooo many online (including this one) & am so confused I've just delayed it when I desperately need a new firm pillow!
Every single one I buy from shops never seems to last & I've paid triple this in Dunelm before now
Round_Grand_4716@reddit
I got one like a sandbag from Amazon, pretty sure it was called brik. I'll find a link if the other one doesn't work out for you
Sufficient-Windiness@reddit
I’d be interested in the link
Round_Grand_4716@reddit
The one I ordered is out of stock, but it was the unscented one from this brand
https://www.amazon.co.uk/stores/HOMESENSE/page/CFEA1353-7837-4424-A97E-BE937A09446F
Sufficient-Windiness@reddit
Thank you. And it was a sandbag?
Round_Grand_4716@reddit
Like a sandbag, but yes, it's been solid, I've had it since December.
PhillyDeeez@reddit
Oh no, pressure is on now lol
Sad-Insurance1313@reddit
Have a wee review above, but so far, not bad!
Sufficient-Windiness@reddit
Will you tell me what you think of it?
Sad-Insurance1313@reddit
Had to wait for it to all plump up so didn't sleep with it last night. Had a wee cheeky 40 winks earlier & it's quite a strange experience!
It feels soft/squishy & I thought....oh no, this isn't firm. But it's like when you lie on it, it makes it firm? Then there was this lovely cooling feeling which I really enjoyed. Was tired after work & chores but still, immediately dropped off
I sleep kinda twisted, chest down & legs out to the left hand side. Had to take my usual flat 2nd under cushion off cos it was a bit too high with it. Although it's all loose in there with zips for access so if it wasn't enough filling I'd just planned to buy another.....think I'll be good though
Tonight will be the real test but so far so good. Need a good firm pillow, but the solid memory foam are a wee bit too much for me.
I've bought dear pillows in the past hoping they'd last, but they all flatten in the end. At least this one isn't hugely expensive for the budget am fortunate enough to have
Overall I'd say I like it so far & have tried to explain best I can!
bedhermit@reddit
Panda hybrid. Cost a fortune. Never slept better
ShaggyHorse@reddit
Yes and yes. I had a voucher about a decade ago and decided to splurge on a couple of John Lewis Hungarian goose down pillows for my wife and I. Honestly the most comfortable pillow I’ve ever slept on. Since then we’ve bought them a couple more times as the difference in sleep quality was significant enough to shell out for them again.
SatisfactionMoney426@reddit
I had the same pillow, stupidly changed it for a Memory Foam and just don't like it. Have since gone back to Hungarian Goose Down - I found out since on Ancestry that 10% of my DNA is Hungarian so that could be why !?
moon-bouquet@reddit
Yeah, if you’re a front sleeper goose down are the best. They last forever too.
tmr89@reddit
They’re good but I prefer Slovakian goose down
OohRahMaki@reddit
We have these. Loved them - went back and got the duvets too. Spending money to sleep well is worth every penny.
Double_Field9835@reddit
I've never really got on with memory foam pillows. I've got one, but prefer a basic 'flat' one. I replace them every year or so though.
when_music_hits@reddit
Got myself some tempur pillows from dreams at £90 each, or the pair...don't really remember, what I do remember is that I mugged myself not getting a split mattress with a side to suit me and a side to suit the wife...the pillows aren't up to much either
Ambitious_Rent_3282@reddit
I bought a luxurious goose-, down pillow. Really liked it as it was so relaxing and felt like your head was floating!
A couple years later, I found a feather pillow surrounded by duck down at IKEA. Only cost me about thirty pounds vs the "Edelweis' down pillow from Cuddledown which was over £100!
The thing is, I much prefer the pillow from IKEA. I still have 6 years later. It's so comfortable
Scottish_B@reddit
I also bought one of these Edelweiss pillows. It was a bit flat for my liking but to be fair to Cuddledown they took it back and added more filling for free when I complained. I still find it compressed too much during the night so loses support.
I moved to a Gluckstoff Ergonomic pillow and this is a game changer. My back and shoulders feels so much better!
yes1402@reddit
My best pillow was bought middle of Lidl. Better than Dorma from Dunelm
Roofless_@reddit
My mattress was a little over £3k and my pillow was £160. How expensive that is compared to others I’m not so sure, but I believe it is worth it. You spend so much time in bed, you should invest in those things.
combustioncactus@reddit
That’s ’very expensive’ compared to others! But I’m glad you like it.
Roofless_@reddit
All I can say is its helped my back, so its well worth the money.
insertitherenow@reddit
Simba pillow. Well worth the money.
Spottyjamie@reddit
Yes a brightr one with coupons
badula-yama-yama@reddit
Hypnos latex high profile pillow friggen love it !!
TheEnglishNorwegian@reddit
Define expensive? I always go for the feather down blends but I wouldn't really call them that expensive, rather the synthetic ones are cheap shit.
Little_st4r@reddit
I bought one that has small memory foam cubes inside of it and it came with a big bag of them so you can fill it to the firmness you prefer. I love it so much!
FrankesteinsLog313@reddit
Yes. Goose feather hotel pillows with a sheep wool type cover over it from Floks
tennisstar04@reddit
My problem is how am I supposed to know which is the right pillow but shelling out hundreds of pounds?
Supergoose5000@reddit
Went for a mattress. They ain't daft, please try this pillow too... Mattress was 6 weeks and we strapped on an extra £300 for two pillows as well.
They are amazing. I love all my bedding.
TheGreenPangolin@reddit
There's all kinds of wool and down and various fancy options but in my opinion, the best is a simple 100% cotton duvet with egyptian cotton duvet cover. So cosy but also breathable so nowhere near as much sweating (my dog has actually started sleeping under it because it's so breathable conpared to my previous one. It's a problem)
Rastapopolos-III@reddit
Wool. Fancy duvets are wool. Keep you warm when it's cold, keep you cool when it's hot. Great at wicking sweat away from you so you don't get all sticky.
I swapped my pillows and duvet for wool varients and got 100% brushed cotton bed linin. Always the right temperature, never sweaty in bed.
yes1402@reddit
I am not sure I will agree with you. I went wool duvet. But I still sweat in it. And I am not a sweaty person.
Rastapopolos-III@reddit
Huh. Do you have polyester in your bed linin?
yes1402@reddit
Your last sentence I think it is. But I bought it in December last year and used it all winter. I did sweat in it during winter. Not all nights though
Mine is rated at 10 to 13 tog. It is wrapped in 100 percent cotton
My beddings are all 200 to 400 thread count (duvet cover and bed sheets).
TheGreenPangolin@reddit
Yes I have gone through so many pillows and they have all been shit. Cheap ones, expensive ones, I just couldn't find anything that worked. Then I found the Tempur Ombracio for £150. And the weird shape means expensive pillow cases too because square pillow cases don't stay on (I tried). Saved me so much tossing and turning time. I love it
Fatal-Eggs2024@reddit
I bought a Coop memory foam pillow in 2015 and have been so happy with it that I think I’ll go to sleep now.
ToriaLyons@reddit
If anyone has a pillow rec for back sleepers, I would kill for it. Really struggling with neck pain.
Giftsofrecovery@reddit
I'm a back sleeper and the only pillow that doesn't give me neck or shoulder pain is a buckwheat one.
Rastapopolos-III@reddit
I got wool pillows, so good. I got brushed cotton bed linin as well and I just don't get sweaty at night anymore. Total game changer.
RaspberryJammm@reddit
Wool pillows, duvet and mattress topper. Gamechanger
sadsack100@reddit
Yep. Bought all mine from thewoolroom.com. I would never want anything else now.
RaspberryJammm@reddit
I'm using slumberdown wool duvet and pillows and woolroom for the mattress topper. Honestly this mattress topper is so good, really helps with chronic pain issues, just taking the edge off pressure points
sadsack100@reddit
Organic washable wool pillows £145 each. Definitely worth it. No neck pain since investing and the sleep is heavenly.
EitherChannel4874@reddit
Yes and yes. I got a Tempur prima smartcool. It doesn't do anything in terms of keeping cool but I find it very comfortable as a side sleeper.
My only complaint is it's a bit too big for a standard size pillow case.
stulogic@reddit
I stay at the Ritz Carlton from time to time and liked their pillows so much I bought some. We already had very similar Sterns & Foster Mattresses and really nice bedlinen.
Genuinely don't believe it's possible to get a more comfortable bed.
StereotypicallBarbie@reddit
John Lewis Hungarian goose down pillows! 100% worth the money.. and the duvets!
Reallyboringname2@reddit
I’ve spent over £500 on 5-10 pillows in the last five years. FML.
I am currently getting on pretty darn well with a £20 synthetic jobbie from TK Maxx.
£140 Hungarian goose, £110 Tempur, £90 Simba, £90 Emma…. Still not there!
My missus has been getting on fine with the Tempur the whole time. I think getting a medium Tempur mattress instead of firm was the mistake.
The goose down pillows didn’t last, despite the price and reputable retailer.
aytayjay@reddit
Orthopedic memory foam is the way to go
ZedLeppelinnn@reddit
Used to get a stiff neck for a few days every couple of months.
Paid the premium for a tempur ortho pillow around a year and I've had no issues since.
Definitely worth the money.
Shoulder-Ordinary@reddit
I did and it wasn't worth it. But then I read that depending on how you sleep and your build, you'll want a different type of pillow thickness. I might research some more and invest in a good one that suits my sleep position.
thenewfirm@reddit
I got a Eva pillow for about £70. I went into Benson for beds and the lady in there helped me find the best pillow for me as a side sleeper. They had different ones to try. Honestly wake up in much less pain now than I used to.
nothingwittytosayyet@reddit
I once woke up completely unable to move my neck and as a result bought new pillows. I opted for a groove pillow which is a funny shape specifically to support my neck, after a year I have never woken up with any stiffness whatsoever. Couldn't recommend them enough. I have one on my spare bed for guests and everyone comments how comfy the bed is and how well they sleep.
fluffy_samoyed@reddit
Yes and yes. I was having terrible neck pain before I switched to a Tempur pillow. It's not traditionally comfy but it's extremely effective.
Superb_Dingo_66@reddit
I have a tempur cooltouch, so good I take it with me if I’m staying in a hotel in this country
spellboundsilk92@reddit
My husband bought expensive pillows to the marriage. I’ve commandeered them and yes it was worth it.
SJTaylors@reddit
Pillows seem to make very little difference to me. So whilst I have some expensive pillows I'm happy on my chest ones as well as I don't like too much filler.
My mattress however though I finally spent a reasonable amount of money on this after 6 years of a terrible mattress, and it has made an infinite difference
ComprehensiveAd8815@reddit
I have two different types of Simba pillows, two solid memory foam and then two with the cubes, best investment I have ever made. I bought them in the sale but they were still £££.
Anxious_Tiger5247@reddit
Love my Simba pillow with the cubes, best pillow purchase
nutrition_nomad_@reddit
i used to think expensive pillows were just hype, but after trying a better one i realized it’s more about support than price, a good pillow that fits how you sleep can really make a difference while a pricey one that doesn’t suit you won’t help at all
RichardNotJudy@reddit
I have a TheraPur Memory Foam Ice Pillow which is about £80. I only got it as we purchased our matress on 0% finance and I didn't see the harm in an extra £80.
Literally the best pillow I've ever had. Ice cold, which I love, perfect firmness/softness combination. If it ever gets damaged I'm getting a new one.
International-Wear57@reddit
Spent £70 on my pillow. 100% worth it. It goes with me wherever I go. China, USA, Spain - it’s come with me everywhere.
Agitated_Ad_361@reddit
I bought a soak&sleep 100% Canadian goose down pillow a few weeks ago. My god, why didn’t I do this years ago?! Unbelievable pillow.
Anon_on_internet@reddit
I love the feeling of my head sinking into a really soft, fluffy pillow but my neck demands more support.
So for the longest time I've had a latex pillow with a down pillow on top: best of both worlds, even if that is two expensive pillows. I did try memory foam but didn't like it.
According-Annual-586@reddit
Mine was from Primark, received it as a gift for Christmas
I like really hard / firm pillows, and this one has been great
Fingertoes1905@reddit
I bought a memory foam one which cost £100 years ago and I’ve never looked back.
Representative_Pin80@reddit
I have one of these. Bloody brilliant
DependentRounders934@reddit
Youve never looked back? Did the pillow cause this join stiffness?
cococats@reddit

My husband would 100% agree with you.
He would regularly get shoulder pain at night until he got a memory foam pillow. 4 years and the pillow is still going strong.
nothingnew09876@reddit
When I bought my new bed I got a voucher for £200 and spent it on 2 momory foam pillows and I fucking love them.
I think it's worth slending money on the best bed, matress, pillows and bedding you can find. I spend about a third of my life in bed, so its gotta be right.
SuperDinkle406@reddit
Yes and yes. I am side sleeper and need forms pillow to keep their shape (broad shoulders). Absolutely worth it. They have kept their firm supportive shape (5+ years).
jackoirl@reddit
I have a Tempur pillow and it was a great investment.
It makes such a huge difference.
krayzie_bonetm19@reddit
Yes I do.... I bought 2x die zudecke pillows & they are game changers
DaughterOfATiredMech@reddit
My husband has been telling me just buy an expensive pillow for years. Every year I buy silent nights or whatever is on sale at the time..
This winter I’m going to take the plunge.. you’ve all convinced me
jjgill27@reddit
I’ve been through quite a few memory foam ones, from ikea to tempur. Current one is a butterfly shape from Amazon and it’s great.
0olon_Colluphid@reddit
I love my foam latex pillow, I've not had neck pain since I bought it several years ago.
Used-Needleworker719@reddit
Honestly yes. We bought bettr sleep pillows, they are about £80 each but usually bogof and the difference in sleep unlit is absolutely unbelieveable. I gave my ten yr old mine to try and for four weeks straight, the second her head hit the pillow she was zonked out,
acupcakefromhell@reddit
I bought an expensive mattress and bedsheets and it was totally worth it. Pillow I don’t care for.
-myeyeshaveseenyou-@reddit
£25 memory foam one, bought after a car crash, will never go back to standard cheaper pillows
NoCold3997@reddit
Brought 2 pillows for £300 last year . Yea there comfy but not overly so.
HeWhoHasABeard@reddit
Bought a couple of memory foam pillows when we changed to a premium mattress
At first it was hard to justify spending a little over £1k for the set but realised I will happily spend that much on a tv which gets used for a good portion of the day so why not spend the same on the place I spend about a quarter to a 3rd of my life
Urbanyeti0@reddit
100% you spend 6-8h a day using it, along with a good mattress and duvet, you should invest
ohnoyoudontlikeme@reddit
Yeah, got a Panda pillow and it's made all the difference. I can turn my head 90 degrees now.
TheMasalaKnight@reddit
The panda bamboo pillow has done me great the past 3/4 years. I got it from Costco when it was £25.
I’m currently enjoying the IKEA “Clubsport” pillow (that’s what I call it anyway). It’s memory foam with a cold gel layer.
I’m discovering a pillow is best paired with the mattress.
srig8@reddit
If you’re a side sleeper, I recommend these: https://amzn.eu/d/00Z2DTjc
Really deep and comfortable pillows
dunkywhorey@reddit
I bought a Sleepeasy a couple years ago and hate not having it when I sleep away from home. Esp good for sidesleeping
zoltan_g@reddit
Yeah, we have duck feather and down.
Yes, well worth the cost.
