What are your experiences in taking dogs on long distance train commutes?

As the title says, I need to take a German Shepherd on a long commute to see family, has anyone here done so and ran into any problems? Bear in mind I love this guy and I will not leave him on his own.

We’ve taken our dog to the Isle of Wight on the train, from London. Tube, train, ferry, bus. No worries, he got a lot of fussing. Did do a piss in Bond Street station which wasn’t ideal but what can you do.

I take my dog on long train journeys frequently (2+ or even 3 hours), she loves all modes of transport and is very happy to be on the train.
I usually just need to make sure she does all of her business before the trip. She stares out of the window and is quite cute, so people might ask to pet her, be prepared that people will ask, especially children. I don't really have treats on me, just some water for the dog.
Did he ever ride a train before? If not, get him accustomed to it, take a shorter day trip somewhere.

I don’t have a dog, so I can’t help sorry. But I just wanted to tell you that your dog is gorgeous!
