How to repair a GPU?

Fans stopped spinning entirely on my RX 580. I know it still works as my pc will display and I don't have integrated. I've tried manually turning them on with adrenaline and stress testing and they refuse to spin.
Would like to try my hand at repairing first instead of buying a new card. Anyone got any experience with taking apart gpus/point me in the direction of a good tutorial?

Remove the existing fans and shroud. Strap some case fans to the GPU with zip ties. It's not pretty, but it works.

Get some noctua fans and you can call your gpu „noctua modded“. Doesnt sound that bad even if its ugly ;)

LOL WORD, never considered this. Might look p sick with some rgb 🤔 Thanks! If new fans don't work, definitely doing this

I honestly didn't know you could do this, good to know for the future. lol.

They often need a small adapter, but it is possible. There have been some weird cooling setups in the past, e.g. the NZXT G12 to mount a CPU water cooler and a 120mm fan on a GPU.

I have a 4080 out of a lenovo pre-build with a really weird shroud and stuff for it's case. And it also never uses 0 RPM mode (cannot be enabled, even on my aftermarket mobo). So I was wondering what I'd do if the fans ever quit.
Not that I've ever had fans fail on a GPU, normally they last the life of the GPU for me (6+++ years), was just trying to think ahead.
This is all cool to know though. Thanks!

OP, the 580 is a weak gaming GPU, being only about 50% that of a 1070. Have you considered upgrading? You can get a much more powerful GPU for about $100 ...

Lol I know, I've considered. If I'm gonna upgrade I'd rather save up and upgrade my whole system. Pc was built in 2016 so It'll be a massive overhaul. Plus pc parts are INSANE rn, would rather spend $15 on fans than $100 for a mid gpu

You could disconnect the fans and test them with a 9 volt battery battery to see if they spin up. If not, replace the fans
jetheridge87@reddit
And if they do then the fan header on the gpu is fried, so you’d run regular case fans connected to the mobo fan headers

Id start with YT to see if there are videos for your specific card to replace fans. Or even deshroud it and zip tie new fans to it.
