i've noticed a lot of our local shops are trying to get better at social media lately and i'm curious what you guys actually value.?

do you prefer seeing the real behind the scenes stuff rather than those perfect ads that don't feel like they're from a local shop?
does it make a difference to you if a business clearly shows their location in their bio so you know they're actually nearby?
would you follow a local page more if they posted helpful tips instead of just trying to sell you something in every post?
showing a bit of personality helps a local business feel like a real part of the neighborhood.
let me know what you think about these.

I prefer ads, but I would not expect a professional ad from a small business. I don't really care about behind-the-scenes stuff.
Location 100% needs to be in the bio, it's so irritating to find a restaurant/cafe that looks great, assume it's somewhere near-ish me, but because there's no info in the bio, I have to navigate the website to find out it's 100 miles away.
Not really unless it's directly related to the business (e.g., a garden centre posting gardening tips is good, a restaurant posting that would be weird as hell).
I would say you need clear opening times/hours with location details (pinned posts are great on Instagram), discounts (theres a small business I have interacted with for ages who have an instagram 'channel' for free shipping codes, obviously not really for local businesses but something like that).

Location Opening hours Stock info (including new stock arrivals) Offers and discounts
Those are the only things I care about and want to see, anything else is just guff.

I live in a small town with a lot of local shops on social media. I usually follow them if I want to see updates of stock, opening hours and any changes to that such as Easter hours and holidays, prices and events. Most of them don’t have websites so social media is a stand in for that. It’s nice if they upload regularly so you know that it’s still active and therefore accurate. The location could be handy as i have noticed Facebook lately try and push pages to me that are annoyingly far away.

Thing is - they're always run so badly. Particularly on Facebook. Maybe I'm just old fashioned but I prefer to actually physically go into a shop than simply look at it on a browser. Never feels the same.

The only reason I follow businesses on social media is for discounts, freebies and news about products I'm interested in.
