Where can I buy a wedding sari?

Hi! My best friend from college is getting married in Houston and I need to find a sari to wear to her wedding. I’m in DFW, and I’m not Indian so I don’t know where to shop! I want it to be a nice one. Thank y’all!!!

My Indian SIL recommended Mirraw to me. They have stitched and not stitched options. You could order one you like and have it sewn locally. Shipping takes a while though. I only wear my MILs saris or I go lehenga because that’s all I can manage. Even for my own wedding.

I love Jyotika Patel’s shop in Valley Ranch! I bought my wedding lehenga there and outfits for other Indian friends’ weddings.
You can try on everything (not the case at some stores I visited in DFW), and she has a gorgeous selection with pretty reasonable prices (think $200-300 for an embellished lehenga. Saris are priced differently.) I thought the quality was really high too, and she has more traditional and modern styles depending on the vibe of your friend’s wedding.
Maya’s Desi Boutique is also nice and cheaper, but I found it easier to shop at Jyotika, especially as a white girl marrying into a West Indian fam.
Seconding the lehenga or pre-sewn sari skirt recs too!

Hey check poshmark and mercari. You can thrift for lesser cost and you can resell it after use.

Highly recommend Asia Boutique. their prices are reasonable and their outfits are nice, and the staff is extremely helpful. Other places will run you well over 300 dollars at least

I’ve gotten 2 saris over the years there for 2 different weddings. I’d recommend getting one where the skirt is already sewn if you’ve never wrapped a sari before and you’re not sure if there will be anyone who can help you wrap it. The first one I got there had a skirt that was sewn but still looked wrapped and it was great. The 2nd one was not sewn and it was still wonderful but for that one I had 3 aunties descend on me and re-do the skirt as soon as I got to the venue. 😅😂

I know both of the bride’s sisters, so I’m sure they’ll straighten me out. 😂 It’s going to be a very small and intimate wedding.

If you aren't Indian, trying to wear a sari isn't a great idea. You need someone to help you prepare and then help you wear it correctly. It's not something that you can figure out from Youtube videos.

She brought it up 😭

Just a note: please do not wear red (bride's color) or white (mourning color) as a guest. Black can be controversial, but all other colors are fair game!

I was thinking green!

Honestly talk to your friend or if possible someone in the family.
They require quite a bit of specific prep to be worn correctly, you’ll either need someone to teach you how to tuck it, or someone to pin/stitch it on a way you can put it on yourself. Not trying to say you shouldn’t, it’s a lovely thing to want to do this. But it’s a complex way to dress.
I’m certain they’ll be thrilled you want to wear a sari but given how tricky they are to wear, they may be able to suggest something traditional but a little easier for you to wear.

I ordered one that requires sewing and went to a local tailor. It came out perfect.

I-75 and Beltline has a cluster of shops with saris. Krishna Sarees happens to be the one I went with last time I had need of a sari (also for a wedding) and they were very helpful.

I got an amazing sari at a shop at 75/beltline. And the extremely kind woman wrapped it and pinned it in a way that I could easily get dressed the correct way for the event.

I came here looking for the jokes mentioning Frisco and Plano. Guess I’m early

I’d consider a lengha. Have the dupatta pinned before you pack for your trip so you can throw it on and attach. Finding someone to put a sari on you before the wedding might prove challenging. Or get a ready to wear sari!!!

Eastern Frisco and northern Irving are the areas where Indian immigrants are mostly clustered, so those areas would be your best bets, depending on which is closer.

I would check out Manyavar in Irving.
Also, does it need to be a sari? Unless you know how to tie them, they are fairly difficult to wear correctly. I would consider wearing a lengha or gown instead.
