Somehow we got this before they considered putting a double action trigger in one of their top breaks for a S&W New Frontier reproduction.
KreepingKudzu@reddit (OP)
Double action revolvers have significantly more parts inside and more difficulty in assembly. single actions on the the other hand are simple and once you learn to assemble one you can figure out all of them (US revolvers at least) pretty quickly without instruction.

I wonder what the price point will be, if it's under 1000 than that might be fine. But I couldn't see paying 2-3k for a .380 lever action.
I know people will be like "but production costs!"
The volcanic is basically just a severely stubby Henry repeating rifle, which uberti have already been making for decades, they already have the tooling to make these
KreepingKudzu@reddit (OP)
there is not a snowballs chance in hell this is less that 1,000.
corporalgrif@reddit
Honestly than this'll probably be a one & done production, the volcanic is an interesting pistol, but it's a very niche pistol.
And funny enough it's already competing with another pistol for the "stupid fun" market. The Tippman pirate pistol is also a .380 manually operated pistol for $800.
If this thing is too expensive we'll likely never see a second line and worse Uberti will probably use it as a example anf say "Well you didn't like the volcanic so we're not going to do weird reproductions anymore"
BadgerBadgerCat@reddit
The Pirate Pistol is essentially a cut-down Stevens Visible Loader, as far as I can tell.
corporalgrif@reddit
Yeah but tippman doesn't make copies of the visible loader.
Rebel-665@reddit
That and R&d costs a lot of money, I’d bet 2200
KreepingKudzu@reddit (OP)
perhaps, but Italian labor is cheap compared to US so I'd guess around 1800 to 2000.
Darthaerith@reddit
Sometimes we buy things because they're cool. I'd totally rock one for no other reason than its a piece of history and a work of art.
Gettingolderalready@reddit
Makes me wanna get the gang and go to Tahiti….right Dutch?!
spider_enema@reddit
It's all part of the plan

Chambered in 380 acp... maybe a hot take, but that kills my personal interest in a volcanic reproduction.
I don't blame them. This is a classic issue with creating reproduction guns. It makes a lot of sense to chamber the gun in a more popular modern cartridge so more people will actually buy the thing. Like a Sturmgewehr reproduction chambered in 5.56 or 7.62x39.
But make it too different from the original and you're alienating the historical nerds, which is arguably the whole point of a reproduction.
To me personally, the entire appeal of the Volcanic is its strange rocketball ammo. Making a reproduction chambered in a conventional cartridge just feels like.... what's the point?
KreepingKudzu@reddit (OP)
well if it was in rocket ball you'd never be able to shoot it
drebinf@reddit
Au contraire, mon ami! All we have to do is to come up with modern reproduction rocket ball ammo... I'm sure we could do a better job with modern technology.
Realistically of course chambering it in .32/.380 etc. is a much better business decision. This product will interest some, but not everyone. This won't take on the LCP Max/Bodyguard 2.0 market of course, just those with extra money and some historical interest. If the price isn't too out there I'll get one, but not holding my breath.
BandedLutz@reddit
It's good to start with something chambered in a widely accessible cartridge (to reach a wider market and build up sales to pay for the tooling etc.) before producing more niche versions.
They can still make a black powder rocket ball version in the future (that just has the added caveat of producing or partnering with a company to produce reproduction rocket ball ammunition). Rocket ball ammunition isn't that difficult to make (and has been replicated in modern times), but is still a hurdle that needs addressed.
EstablishmentFull797@reddit
Rocketball is case-less ammo. That is actually cool
REDACTED3560@reddit
Speak for yourself, the appeal of the volcanic pistol is how unique the design is. Sure, there’s mare’s legs pistols, but those are really just chopped down rifles. Having this in 380 is a great thing because ammo can be had readily and for cheap, as well as components if you reload. Chambering this in the original volcanic round would mean you’re SOL unless you want to get really in the weeds making your own cases.
He-She-We_Wumbo@reddit
I'd pay more for a repro 7.62x39 STG44 than one in 7.92 Kurz. For something that isn't a historical artifact, but is something to be appreciated and shot, obscure and expensive ammo is a headache I don't need.
Useless_Fox@reddit
Yeah but at least 7.62x39 and 7.92kurz are extremely similar in practice. So you can shoot one and be confident you're getting the "feel" of shooting the real thing.
But to me, the volcanic's very strange (and notoriously underpowered) rocketball ammo is the entire thing that makes the volcanic interesting. Replacing the round with 380 acp negates the entire novelty of the gun, personally.
Rebel-665@reddit
Thats one of the coolest things I’ve seen in awhile, surprised that there isn’t a 32acp chambering. It is a little less popular but I bet the rim on the 32 would help the whole gun with ejection.
corporalgrif@reddit
.25 ACP would have been another potential clambering that wouldn't require too much extending of the frame, probably would've offered similar ballistics to rocketball as well.
Rebel-665@reddit
That and probably a capacity similar, maybe 9+ with the 8 inch.
EstablishmentFull797@reddit
wouldn’t need to worry about ejection if they had gone with case-less ammo like the original
KreepingKudzu@reddit (OP)
.32 is pretty much dead compared to .380. I also wonder if they run into import issues via GCA 1968 w/ a 32
sirbassist83@reddit
32 is still very much alive and well. 380 is more popular sure, but thats like saying "porche is basically dead compared to subaru". one is like the 5th most popular in the world. the other doesnt have the same sales volume but isnt in any danger at all of disappearing.
Logan_Frost@reddit
Oh, cool! I can talk about these now! :D Im super stoked they're officially coming.
Indierocka@reddit
In the beautiful bright hunglish language as well. I love cap and ball. Great channel if you’re not subscribed.
Joice_Craglarg@reddit
Eh, it's cool, but it's not something I really want to own.
I don't expect this to be a commercial success, but I'm glad that Uberti is doing stuff like this.
texasbarkintrilobite@reddit
This is so cool!
a-drunk-canadian@reddit
Ohhh shit now this is something I never expected
terrrastar@reddit
OH HELL YEAH
KreepingKudzu@reddit (OP)
.380 ACP btw
