88Ms are not required to read
96fordman03@reddit
Sadly..... It's that way in the regular trucking world as well.
PraiseTalos66012@reddit
It's so much worse in the military.
I've been in the guard as an 88m for 8 years and also have my CDL civilian side.
I train a lot of the new soldiers we get and it goes 1 of 2 ways. A quarter of them are great, they paid attention in training and maybe they are a bit rusty but overall they are solid drivers.
The other 75% are terrifying. Mfers be taking corners that are signed at 25mph at 40mph and that's only because I was screaming at them by the time we got there to slow TF down because they didn't slow down the first 10 times I said it. Their tcs putting out in group chats on convoys that they can't keep up because we keep swapping lanes, like yea we had to how can you not switch lanes when there's no traffic on a Saturday. Every time I plan a convoy I give the GPS location and show on Google maps which route to pick, then I hand draw a route also, then I type out the instructions, all of that goes in the group chat then I'll individually go to each truck and show and explain the route and double triple check they are positive they know it and without fail at least one truck gets lost.
Had one person tell me they don't know how to tell an interstate from a state route from a (dirt) county road after he took a semi down a dirt road.
At least once a year(every 20-30 convoys) someone rips a civilian semi bumper off at the truck stop bc they forgot they had a trailer. People pull away from pumps with the nozzle still in regularly also.
This winter I had to free all the trucks from being stuck in snow and went to every truck individually before the convoy and explained diff lock is on and to turn it off when they leave the motor pool, 4/7 trucks left it on for the full 600mi roundtrip.

And not a very high ASVAB score

I think this arrangement of letters may be insulting.

Isn’t that a military vehicle? Boy that guy is not going to have a fun conversation with his boss… commanding officer? Whoever he answers to lol
Alive_to_Thrive5@reddit
Wouldn't be his problem, the command is supposed to create a trip route for the driver and the lead sergeant in charge of the trip should have been...well in charge. So you can guarantee that the sarge is gonna get his ass chewed by command.
PraiseTalos66012@reddit
If it's national guard it might not even have been a Sgt who made the route.
My unit is so short on Sgts our last AT I an e4 ended up running every single convoy bc our two e5s(technically 3 but one was new) and single e6 and e7 where busy with other stuff.
Now tbf I am only a 4 bc I didn't want the extra responsibility bc I have too much going on in my civilian life and I've been in longer than most of our 5s have now so it's not that bad.
I did end up having an e5 who was new on one of my convoys who ignored my route plan on a convoy and ended up driving down a dirt road in a semi truck. Got my ass chewed for that one.
Radiant_Swan187@reddit
I was about to ask where the hell any personal responsibility was. But then I remembered my dad. "MY DUTY IS TO DO OR DIE NOT TO QUESTION WHY."

Yet another crayon eater who can't read English.
Alarming_Star_6549@reddit
But numbers would be in Arabic, right
MarmotWorldOrder@reddit
In Virginia?
Alarming_Star_6549@reddit
Yes. Arabic is what the entire world uses for numbers. Type Arabic numbers in your browser. Its what we all use.
MarmotWorldOrder@reddit
I'm aware the numbers would be in Arabic, I'm mocking the military and people who always say immigrants can't read English.
Alarming_Star_6549@reddit
I'm with ya, most immigrants in our country are multilingual and that alone is impressive.
MarmotWorldOrder@reddit
I have a 1,000 day Spanish streak on Duolingo and am nowhere near conversational. Learning another language especially later when you have responsibilities outside of school is hard. Much less moving to a different country. Being fluent and even conversational in a second language is very impressive. I agree. When you actually see them as people and not their ethnicity, attire, equipment, or company, it's much easier to humanize them.
MarmotWorldOrder@reddit
When I hear people slagging off immigrants for not being able to read English, I imagine they were talking about signs not pertaining to numbers.

Those god damn flip flopers

Something similar happened a few weeks ago in Germany. I think reading isn't really their strongest ability.
