My goals were:
-
Smallest gap
-
Working (all 4 pairs working)
-
Jackets properly tucked in on both ends
-
Visually looking somewhat good

Did you measure the latency vs a 30cm cable?
ameer1234567890@reddit (OP)
Should I?
ConstructionSafe2814@reddit
Obiously :)

Will do when I get the time

Too busy creating LACP trunks with these?

This brings back some memories for me when I made a very short crossover cable once to go between 2 firewalls and learned that having a cable that was so short actually introduced errors. For fun I made a few more increasing them 6 inches per cable and saw 0 errors at 18 inches.
Reedy_Whisper_45@reddit
Local ISP has a guy that makes short cables (about 3" between ends) for a loopback on the switches they use for fiber connections. Hundreds of such installations and they have no trouble with it. It's how they throttle internet speed.
Zenkin@reddit
Fiber is different because there's no EMI. It was also different back in the day when things were half duplex and frames could collide.
OptimalCynic@reddit
Depends on how strong the EMI is and what wavelength...

cries in LHC technician
Reedy_Whisper_45@reddit
His loopback cable was a cat5 ethernet cable.
bitslammer@reddit
This was over 20yrs ago so the electronics may have been more sensitive back then. It was only 100/full duplex which was "fast" at that time.
Random_Effecks@reddit
IT's not a twisted pair if it's got no twist
bitslammer@reddit
LOL.....it had a few at least, but maybe not enough.

that's what she said.

Just for grits and shins, you could make two cables with RJ45 keystone/female ends on one end and use your little scoobi as a flexible DIWhy coupler. 🤣🙃

Too much slack, start over.
Reedy_Whisper_45@reddit
The wrapping on the right side is a little ragged. Needs to be redone.

LOL YES
