Has anybody has problems cancelling Omaze?

I am currently having an almighty row with this fraudsters who 'cancelled' my account in september but not my 'other' account using essentially the same details, i complained and they apologised and assured me that 'my account was still active', they are refusing to actually talk to me so I don't know if my next best move is to contact my lawyer or my mates at the BBC. Any thoughts?

Expand on "essentially the same details"...

So years ago apple change me.com to icloud.com and these details can be used interchangeably, I never use me.com though, literally i have never typed that out for well over 2 decades
So according to them despite cancelling the icloud.com account i created a me.com account, same name, address, bank details etc... but they are refusing to refund anything because i didn't also cancel this account i had no idea existed.

Have they been charging you for both accounts all this time?

No just one account (the me.com one) but that is the one I never created, I have never used that acocunt.

How were you able to cancel a subscription for the iCloud.com email if it had never been charged?
TTNNBB2023@reddit (OP)
Sorry that one had been charged as well, thats the one i opened the account with, using my usual (non-work) email, I cancelled that in September but I must have been using my phone, and during the complicated process of cancellation (its like 'click no if you don't want to keep the account' then later its 'click yes to confirm you want to cancel the account') I must have made a mistake and agreed to not cancel it, and because it was on my phone it created a me.com account. This is the one i never created or used, but i was charged for.
The whole thing is a mess, I have a meeting with the BBC on Friday and will ask my contacts if its a complaint they have heard about before.

You somehow accidentally signing up again during cancellation with a different email address is a very different issue legally to you requesting a cancellation and them not actioning it. Not to say they're in the right, but you need to get your facts straight if you're to have any hope of fighting this.
I'd recommend posting the full details, ideally with a straightforward timeline, in r/LegalAdviceUK.

Sort of, I requested the cancellation, and they cancelled the account but I ended up with another account i did not create. I don't know how this happened but I am guessing it was during the cancellation.
They even denied i had 2 accounts until i showed them screengrabs, either way its really shoddy business practice.

I might have described it badly but my point still stands that what you've described is very different to what you initially had in your post. You're claiming they've set up a new subscription/account without your permission. Regulations and laws around this are different to you requesting a cancellation and them not doing it.
TTNNBB2023@reddit (OP)
They did. I never used me.com I used icloud.com, the one i cancelled, when I contacted them they refused to believe i had an icloud.com account until I showed them screengrabs.
I checked the icloud.com account after I thought I had cancelled it and it said i had no subscriptions, so i went on my way, then six months later i find i am being charged for a me.com account that i did not create, that has all the same details.
edit: do you think its better to ask legaladviceuk in the evening or wait until tomorrow?
annedroiid@reddit
To be clear I'm not saying that you didn't, I'd absolutely believe a company could do something like this, whether it be accidental or intentional. My point is that whether you're going to the media or a solicitor you need to be very clear about the timeline and what you're asserting that they've done.

I see that, and I agree, thanks for your time.

I cancelled that one yes, they initially denied that one existed, its a bit of a mess, i have got a phone number from them eventually but i have to cold call it, nobody i have been emailing will speak to me, and its so complicated, am not sure its worth it, I am going to the BBC for a meeting on Friday and I have contacts in multiple departments, including business, so will see what they say, if i don't hear back.

Cancel the direct debit and move on with your life?

Cancel the direct debit and move on with your life?
Well yes I have done that.
This is a bit harder because they have been charging me £15 a month for an account I did not know existed 6 months after I cancelled the account I did know existed. They also stopped sending me emails informing me of the draw I was being entered into at the same time I cancelled the account I did know about, they have said this was dues to a change in policy, seems a bit coincidental, no?
If I have to move on I will move on but I think they have took money from me in a really quite underhand way so I am not going to give in easily.

How are they charging you if you've cancelled the DD?
And if they are billing you, why do they refuse to talk to you about that account?
TTNNBB2023@reddit (OP)
They are not charging me now, but they have been, basically I set up the account with an icloud.com account, to use once, I realised i had been added to a subscription so i cancelled that, didn't think anything more of it because the emails stopped, this was in september.
Today going through my statements I noticed it, logged into the icloud.com account, was surprised to see it was still active, cancelled it, then complained and they told me i did not have an icloud.com account, i logged into that one, took a screenshot of it, then they told me the money came out of a me.com account.
They are refusing to talk to me about an either account, at least on the phone, which i demanded after I received an email stating.

Contact your bank to block any future payments or CPAs to Omaze.
If they have charged you, after you originally cancelled in September, ask your bank for a Chargeback (for debit cards) or a Section 75 claim (for credit cards over £100). Provide your bank with the evidence of your September cancellation request.

Thanks thats some good advice, i will look into it.
