I believe you’re looking at the wrong end. As I mentioned, this is towards the shoreward end (or around halfway up) - this bit - and not the top end or the bit nearest the shore which burned down a decade or so ago. Looks slightly different due to the angle and the photo being older than the google image.
It’s definitely a growing phenomenon, and usually, it boils down to a few different motivations:
Speed and Efficiency: For people who struggle with writer's block or find formatting tedious, AI acts as a "fast-forward" button to get a thought out there without the heavy lifting.
Perceived Authority: Some users feel the AI sounds more "professional" or "smart" than they do, so they use its polished tone to lend credibility to their posts [2, 5].
Information Curation: In some cases, people use it to summarize complex topics they’ve researched, essentially using the AI as a high-tech "CliffsNotes" for their audience [3, 4].
Low Effort/Spam: On the less helpful side, some accounts just want to maintain a "presence" or hit posting quotas, and AI-generated content is the cheapest way to stay active [1, 5].
As for the use, it’s a mixed bag. It can provide a quick, readable summary of a topic, but it often lacks the personal perspective, unique voice, and nuanced opinion that make human interaction actually interesting [4, 6].

Didn’t that one burn down in the 30s and get replaced by a much less ornate building that burned down in 2008?
SorryAboutScunthorpe@reddit
Eastbourne, but they haven’t turned the flame feature on yet

Eastbourne?
A lot of piers have changed over time, including Eastbourne that had a bit of a fire.

Never had a round dome.

Google say: This photograph captures the historic Brighton West Pier, likely in its heyday during the early 20th century before its decline.

Why do people just post what ai told them? What use is that?

Brightons former West Pier. The one that was blighted by 2 fires and then multiple.storms.
a_very_lost_dog@reddit
I'm no expert, but I'd probably guess somewhere near the sea.
