are these actually in service now? surprised it took so long for a 5.45 belt fed to be adopted. I know the pu-21 existed but that was never adopted.
yungloafposts@reddit
Yes, with VDV forced alongside the new AK-12K carbines. There’s apparently issues with a lack of belt fed boxes for these LMGs though
schonkopfRR@reddit
They supply 4-5 boxes in the kit, but yeah, if you lose them, getting more is hard. The RPL-20 still seems to be only a range pony with combat instructors (who worked with the 76th VDV picture) and having some teething issues in terms of reliability and fouling. Plus complaints about Kalashnikov Concern's metal/coating quality
reznov-where-are-you@reddit
lol they cant even give their troops belt boxes
Exciting_Bat_2086@reddit
What do you expect with ruzzia?
BooknFilmNerd09@reddit
Yeah, and they also made a version of the RPL-20 that shoots 7.62x54mmR! The RPL-7, it’s called. To replace the PKP Pecheneg, I presume…?
Kalashnikov545762@reddit
RPL-7 use 7.62x39mm, not 54mmR. PKP cant be replaced tho
BooknFilmNerd09@reddit
Oh shit, really?! Huh! Well, my bad. Yeah, in that case, it obviously cannot replace the PKP! If that was what you meant by that…?
Kalashnikov545762@reddit
well the RPL-7 just like the 20, its role is LMG, but have a different caliber. while PKP is a GPMG, and the Russian dont want to replace PKP yet
BooknFilmNerd09@reddit
I see. Who knows; maybe there’ll eventually be an RPL chambered in 7.62x54mmR that can replace that one, huh?
Kalashnikov545762@reddit
could be, but PKP is perfect for right now so i. dont think it will be replace soon
CyberSoldat21@reddit
Think it was formally adopted a couple of years ago?
IlyushinGoBrrr@reddit
I like the one-piece monolithic look of the machine gun. Would love to see the AK platform with this look.
Also, what is with the fixation of attaching the bipod to the barrel instead of the handguard?
Activision19@reddit
Makes for a more stable firing platform. With the bipod out at the end of the barrel you have to make big adjustments to the butt stock end of the rifle to make minor adjustments in point of aim. Whereas if you put the bipod near the chamber end of the barrel you can make big adjustments fairly quickly but the gun is inherently less stable in that configuration.
MWolverine1@reddit
They could also put it at the end of the handguard and not have it fuck with harmonics

Be a nice trophy to obtain
Downloading_Bungee@reddit
Quite surprising it took them this long to realize the RPK-74 ain't all that.
CyberSoldat21@reddit
In certain situations the RPK is perfectly fine but for suppressing fire I’d want a belt fed

Everybody is using multicam.. Russia despite its "superpower" status can't even make its own camo. No wonder they are using colorful adhesive tape to identify friends or foes.
Carneiro021@reddit
Us didn’t create multicam bro
hgwxx7_foxtrotdelta@reddit
Yeah and? Crye Precision, which invented the Multicam, is US company and has been serving NATO countries' request for decades.
Even China doesn't use Multicam as standard issue now. China develop its own camo: Xingkong (Starry Sky) camo.
Russia sucks bro.

That is a charging handle that the designers did not want you to miss. Hope it isn't reciprocating.
MojoCrow@reddit
It's also a charging handle that's a grappling hook for every bit of twig & branch
Zealousideal_Ad2379@reddit
I’ll wait for the Valgear review
Haunting-Top-1763@reddit
I see one more in this picture than I'd ever expect to be made
