What small thing has improved your life in some way or another?

I cut the sleeves off one of my t-shirts and have been wearing it to bed for about a week, took a few nights to get used to but wow sleeveless shirts are comfy and they keep you very cool, I honestly don’t know why i didn’t start wearing them earlier, I didn’t realise removing the sleeves made such a difference and now i find sleeping in t-shirts a bit awkward.
I have a feeling that as summer approaches that most of my sleep shirts will lose the sleeves and I’ll probably buy some sleeveless shirts too.
What small thing did you try that improved some aspect of your life? Or changed how you do something for the better?

Non latex buttplugs. Genuinely thought I would never be able to tolerate them, but now my hypoallergenic ones are in all day!
swoopstheowl@reddit
I hate this, but flossing and proper brushing. I was exceptionally floss adverse and worked very hard to get myself flossing. The difference is crazy and my rather rubbish teeth have hugely improved in health.
CarrotOJ@reddit
Having Invisalign got me into flossing religiously. I no longer had the unpleasant feeling of plague build up, my teeth feel smooth all the time.
Plague_Robbery@reddit
Plague build up would be unpleasant tbf
CarrotOJ@reddit
LOL you got me
Quirky-Possibility52@reddit
Same, the flossing I’ve done after getting Invisalign has really opened my eyes to the difference it makes!
Quiet_surprise79@reddit
I'm in the process of trying to get into a routine with flossing (also very adverse) and my teeth feel so much cleaner all through the day when I manage to keep it up for several days.
Thank you for this reminder to get back on it!
swoopstheowl@reddit
I'm so so very floss adverse, I have awful sensory issues and a lot of dental trauma. My dentist currently have really transformed how I feel about that and now I actually rave about flossing. Who knew.
sunheadeddeity@reddit
The little interdental brushes are much easier that flossing, they've made a huge difference for me.
swoopstheowl@reddit
For sure - they were like my gateway to flossing. I worked through those, smaller brushes and then dental floss sticks before I got myself to just floss. Couldn't have done it without the brushes

To be honest been contemplating deleting reddit. It's so handy to tap into hive mind, but fuck me it's full of absolute cunts sometimes. I find it gets to me almost if not more than Facebook /Instagram do.
MyCodesCompiling@reddit
I've recently managed to get drawn back in after hardly using it for YEARS and now I'm here all the time. And it's full of rubbish! Like it's great to ask questions about a specific topic, but I find myself reading "am I overreacting" or that sort of shit, or reading threads on a topic that I am actually interested in, but it's of no benefit to me at that moment in time. I think I might have to delete the app from my phone to avoid it
WILKOFL@reddit
You put that a bit better than me I have to say 😂 Completely agree. One of the things for me is people with even the slightest of contrasting views or opinions are met with abuse or ridicule. It's like there are these reddit gremlins what are waiting to pounce and leave the most condescending responses to stuff.
AromaticVacation3077@reddit
Thanks very much.

I sleep bollock naked. Your sleeveless shirts do not impress me.

I owe my life to this magnificent small fluffy gentleman
Single_Classroom_448@reddit
Awe, he looks so cute. There's a lot of cats around where I live that are so friendly, it warms my heart when they run up to you as you're walking and try to roll over on their side right by your feet, I just wish I could pet them but I'm on a topical medication which can be quite bad for them
anabsentfriend@reddit
Here's a cat that I found in my bedroom today. I don't own a cat.

Wait until you find out about vests!
Apart-Artichoke3894@reddit
Ditching skinny jeans. As a millennial, believe me this was tough! But accepting they never did anything for my body shape and embracing that baggy is best and infinitely more comfortable has set me free 😅

Buying a countertop dishwasher. The joy of not having to stand and wash up has been a blessing. I'd love a normal sized dishwasher but my kitchen is to small for one.
steak0132@reddit
Mines just broke after 30 years. Was a Bosch, really missing it. Definitely looking at getting another one. Which brand did you get?
Embarrassed_Park2212@reddit
It's a comfee one. I got mine second hand from eBay about 3 years ago. I would have got one new but the price at the time was too much for me and second hand one go really quick on eBay but I got lucky. I absolutely love it.
steak0132@reddit
Thanks I’ll look that one up as I can’t afford a Bosch either right now.

Chucking my phone onto a random corner of the living room floor every evening at 6pm, only to be picked up when its time to head upstairs for bed. I don't doomscroll anymore and get a lot more reading and quality time with family in.

Purchasing a holiday home in Cornwall. We’re retirees and age is catching up to us so going through airports and on flights isn’t as easy as it used to be. Now we can simply drive down, enjoy a bit of sunshine and sea a couple times a year or rent it out and earn a bit more money.
glasgowgeg@reddit
Purchasing a second home is not a "small thing".
GenericDefaultGuy@reddit
Depends how you look at it really.
glasgowgeg@reddit
Not at all, houses are not "small things".
Plague_Robbery@reddit
If purchasing a whole second house is a small thing for you, I cannot imagine what a big thing would be 😂

i second this by cutting your own neckline on pj tops. so much more comfy

I do want to try cutting my own necklines, i have a couple of breton shirts that i'd like to have the original french navy style boat neck

Remembering I own a slow cooker.
In about 10 mins I can prep 10+ "dump bags" for the freezer, and then future meals are <2 mins prep time for a delicious home cooked meal.
Awkward-Wishbone-615@reddit
Give me ideas please, what's in your dump bags?
OutdoorApplause@reddit
Also a Bolognese but I don't have a recipe for that. Just onions, garlic, mince, chopped tomatoes, red lentils, herbs
Awkward-Wishbone-615@reddit
You're amazing thanks so much! 🙏
No-Extension-2378@reddit
I'm very new to this, but you have just reminded me I've got a chicken fajita mix prepped up in the freezer. Plus short dated flatbreads I pilfered from work.
Thankyou internet stranger! 🏆

Buying a toaster. We didn't have one for years because I thought we didn't have space for it. Then I don't know why, one day I just decided we do have the space and we got one. Life really is better now.

I finally cleaned my room and gave it a Hoover after a month.... Felt like I was reborn when I changed my sheets 😭😞 It's been really rough with job hunting... But at least I have a clean room now 😁 and it made me smile.

I removed YouTube from my phone as it kept loading into shorts and before I realise 30-40mins have gone by and I have a headache. I only use the web version of Reddit as it breaks and fails to load sometimes. Those failures help break the doom scroll cycle.
I use Daylio to track my mood which is quite interesting.

Getting cats. I know it seems trite but after the pandemic I was a lot more isolated and struggling with my MH and wellbeing than I would have admitted at the time.
It isn't just having to take care of them or the routine it gives, but our interactions and the affection they show me as well as being able to show them affection.
For a single person living alone I can go days without speaking to anyone who isn't a colleague or delivery driver/postman. Yet having them makes me feel less alone.
gander8622@reddit
I have two cats. My wife didn't want cats. Guess who loves the cats more than anyone else in the house?
Polz34@reddit
I stuck two hooks on the outside of my wardrobe and hang my top/bottom for the next day on them. For workdays makes things so much simplier so I don't have to think about it!
yarnyplanter@reddit
Getting one of these for my kitchen tap. Washing without the option of having the sprayer and moving the head around is so much harder.
QueSeRawrSeRawr@reddit
I got one of these (which I loved) and the hard water/limescale has made it snap off inside the tap so currently figuring out what the hell to do to fix that!
bozwold@reddit
Exercising.
Told myself I'd do one push up and one sit up when i wake in a morning. Plus one every week that I continued. Time contraints stopped me at 100. For the first time in 20 years I have visible abs and I want to keep them, so I eat cleaner, drink more water and add a walk in there.
That one small choice lost me 8 stone over 2 years, with no P.E.Ds and it has become an embedded part of my routine, I haven't skipped a day. I was 2 sharing bags of doritos as a snack, snoring while awake kind of guy, glad that phase is over
(By visible abs i don't mean Brad Pitt, fight club 0% body fat, But there is noticeable toning under my insulation)

Potato ricer.
Best mash ever.
bozwold@reddit
If you find yourself with time to spare, bake the potatoes. Remove skins, season and put them in the over to crisp
Use real butter, substitute cream for mayonnaise
When you plate up, crumble the crispy skins on top
Best mash ever.
SemtaCert@reddit
Why are you sleeping with a T-Shirt on at all?
NoCommunication7@reddit (OP)
It’s just how I’ve always been, the only time I haven’t worn one to bed is during heatwaves
swoopstheowl@reddit
Because upper body a little cold without anything?
SemtaCert@reddit
Sounds like there problem is getting too warm.

Same, life is so peaceful now. Also TikTok. Byeeee.
pixiemeat84@reddit
I only use tiktok for the workouts and occasionally recipes. I'm very strict with myself because otherwise I find myself thinking "well that's 20 minutes of my life I won't get back" 😬
So far so good, but it's definitely addictive 😢
curetrick@reddit
In 2021 I said “I’ll limit myself to 20 mins a day!” And a couple of months ago that had turned into 3 hours regularly. But I have anxiety so used it to withdraw, which is a vicious cycle. One day I’ll get it again because it is a great app, I just couldn’t trust myself with not overusing it.
Eastern_Canary2150@reddit
Respect this , wish I could do the same but I'd feel so cut off from the world. It's crazy really when I think about it.
curetrick@reddit
Nah, you feel cut off from the internet a bit, but you become so much more in tune with yourself. I still have Reddit which is (mostly) a less negative space with more nuance, and I have news apps and stuff. Try it for a couple of days, no pressure, just make sure you have a few hobby things/distractions lined up. Allow yourself to get bored, that’s where you’ll find curiosity and, in turn, the real world.
rdmprzm@reddit
Did that years ago too.
NoseGraze@reddit
Similar to you, but fixing my summer wardrobe.
I'm prone to basal cells so I cover up in summer. That means trousers, long sleeves, etc. In the past I've just dealt with being stupidly warm all the time, but last year I realised that fabric type and design can actually make a huge difference.
I bought fishing style shirts that have vents in the back.
I bought some long sleeve maxi dresses. Still cover me completely how I need but the openness at the bottom makes such a difference for airflow.
Got some linen shirts. Sticking to darker colours and limiting my time outside a bit since they aren't as good for sun protection, but still makes a nice difference for shorter periods.
Ditched my old sun hoodie (suffocating) for a hat that has a bit covering my neck in the back. Way more airflow than the hoodie.

Drink a litre or water first thing in the morning, which helps with bowel movements
BlueHeisen@reddit
A litre of water? you’ll be pissing the whole morning?
StarSpotter74@reddit
My bowel movement is 7:00 every morning. Shame I don't wake up until 7:30

Getting a smart plug for my electric blanket. I love getting into a warm bed especially after a night shift.
Putting child locks on my cupboards- I have no kids, but a cat with very strong arms.
This seems obvious too, but packing my bag the night before for work- never again will I forget my breakfast, or more importantly my terea sticks.
Cool_Doubt2152@reddit
Please please please be careful with electric blankets, coming from someone whose friend had their house burn down very recently. It wasn’t even turned on or in use, it was just plugged in and faulty wiring inside it caused a spark and it set on fire. ‘Luckily’ it was during the day when she was out, not while she was asleep. It happens more than you think!
A_Literal_Fruit_5369@reddit
Going home to unplug it from the wall now
sunheadeddeity@reddit
Packing your bag the night before is such an easy life hack. My wife waits until she HAS to leave then starts rushing about the place looking for her stuff. I used to get sucked in, now I just kiss her goodbye and ignore the next 5 minutes of "Where's my...?" frenzy.
