Spiders are all harmless until they bite. And they all do. Put em out the house
Shitsinhandandclaps@reddit
One that should no longer be alive.

I hate those specifically because they don't stay in their little corner... Instead, we find them crawling on the floor or they fall from doors when you open them.
Had a massive one fall on my back once when I opened the door, making me throw my cup of coffee all over our white walls š«£
Not 100% sure it is the same species, but I think the females form kind of nests with their webs for their eggs, and once you know where they are it's quite easy to get rid of them. We had loads in the corners of our windows, particularly in the conservatory and outside the kitchen. I started cleaning the rid nest regularly and we had a lot less of those spiders inside the house after that.

I don't mind the spiders that find a corner and chill, it's when they start moving erratically that they freak me out. Had a spider hanging out about head height in my backdoor frame (outside) and I'd say hi every time I smoked in the doorway. I'd tell him that he can stay as long as he doesn't start scuttling around my house. After a while he left, and part of me misses him.

I'm more impressed that you have never seen one before, they're extremely common. Especially in the autumn.

I've seen all sorts of spiders but never one that looked like this. Maybe I've seen smaller ones and not thought anything of it, but this one threw me off because its so chunky (it's body is like half a centimetre thick) which I haven't seen.
MoistPossibility3446@reddit
Iāve seen a spider nearly the size of my hand before, it was on the roof of the second floor, just next to the entrance of the attic.
himmygal@reddit
Common House Spider. And they get a lot bigger than 4 cm, particularly in the Autumn after a summer of eating bugs. They're harmless.
Its_An_Outraage@reddit (OP)
I hate this. Spiders don't usually bother me that much if they mind their own business, but I draw the line at scuttling about while I'm naked and afraid in the shower.
himmygal@reddit
Its usually males that come into houses and scuttle about looking for girl spiders to have spider fun time with! Its pretty common to find them in baths as they crawl into them then can't get out! Just get a cup and a bit of paper, then put him outside.
MoistPossibility3446@reddit
I prefer grabbing them with a piece of tissue and flushing them down the toilet.
theworldsaplayground@reddit
I throw them out of the upstairs window. Does it hurt them?Ā
Ok-Blackberry-3534@reddit
Only their feelings.
Either_Custard_7438@reddit
Yeah I get quite a few in my bath. They can be big old fellas for sure.
Pint glass over the top and a peice of paper does the trick and outside they go
VolcanicBear@reddit
Scuttling about is minding its own business.
You're the one exposing yourself to an innocent arachnid.
smellyfeet25@reddit
JUST LEAVE THEM BE. I love them
Its_An_Outraage@reddit (OP)
But when I break into people's homes and scuttle around looking for a girlfriend, III'MMM the problem!!! The au-DACITY!
Lilancis@reddit
When they get big enough you can hear them walking.
TheDawiWhisperer@reddit
People get the ick with them because of how fast they are, in my experience
AllThatIHaveDone@reddit
As someone with arachnophobia, I do indeed hate how spiders move, but strangely I also hate how they don't move. It's not rational š
QuantitySharp2662@reddit
I used to be deathly afraid of spiders until I realized they're bloody petrified of everything larger than them.
Those scary sprints are panicked dashes. The menacing standing still is the spider trying to avoid being seen and eaten.
I pray you can change your fears into cares like I did lol I now scoop spiders up and put them somewhere safe.
AllThatIHaveDone@reddit
Yeah, I understand those things at a conscious level, but even so, my subconscious doesn't trust those 8 legged bastards. I never kill them, though.

I'm replacing some decking at home and found a couple of giants living under the old stuff. They were pretty shy and just ran off to find somewhere dark. I used to have terrible arachnophobia but I guess the hypnosis worked as I wasn't really bothered by them!
PennyBunPudding@reddit
Once I bought a house AND started gardening my arachnophobia faded pretty quick as it was no longer a luxury I could afford.

Ugh I hate these. I used to see quite a few of them in my house during autumn. I remember waking up one night to two massive ones on the wall next to my bedš weirdly though over the last couple of years, I donāt see them much anymore.
Hope I didnāt just jinx it š they move fucking FAST. Thatās what I hate most about them.
Doomergeneration@reddit
Iāve had two in my house like that in the past week. I didnāt think it was spider season yet
Superspark76@reddit
It's a house spider, I live in a rural area with outbuildings, some of these are so big I'm going to start charging them rent.
oscarx-ray@reddit
To overcome the spider's curse, simply quote a bible verse

This looks like tegenaria domestica, otherwise known as the "domestic house spider".
It's also common to find the "giant house spider" here in the UK, which used to be tegenaria gigantia but was moved into its own species group, eratigena (usually eratigena atrica)
They look very similar but the giant house spider is, as the name suggests, bigger and the markings on the body and abdomen are different.
