Hi should there be a Xena reboot or a sequel?

violet-waves@reddit
Hi it’s me. I get we all want more of the media we know and love but I am literally begging people to understand that reboots and sequels ruin the original material. They will never recapture the magic of any cult classic. They tried real hard to do that with Star Wars, and while those have been wildly “successful” they all suck outside the original trilogy. The magic is gone and can’t be replaced by throwing money at it.
DanieXJ@reddit
Star Trek was even worse. Entirely missing the point of what Star Trek was (the point of the original and the 90s and even the Kelvin movies a little bit was to see a better future, not pull Star Trek down into the current utter horrible muck that is Earth at the moment).
SecureAstronaut444@reddit
You're missing the last where nineties Star Trek is a reboot in itself... and I personally really love nutrek as do many others
DanieXJ@reddit
Ah, yes, I forgot, if I have an opinion it's "wrong", but, if you have an opinion it's okay to have whatever opinion you want. Classic NuTrek fans. Kudos to you for like it, you have the right to, I've never said anything other than that. I have the equal right to call it crap. Utter crap.
Thankfully as of October 6, 2027 there'll will be 100 years of Talkies, so, I have plenty of great stuff to catch up on.
SecureAstronaut444@reddit
I wasn't invalidating your opinion... I was just pointing out that nineties Trek is a reboot and that's the fact that you missed...
And that I happen to like nutrek, as do many others... you're the one that's getting weird about it... never said you didn't have the right to not like it...
But that still doesn't negate the fact that nineties Trek was a reboot which has absolutely nothing to do with whether or not either of us likes or dislikes nutrek 🤷♀️
DanieXJ@reddit
90s Trek still isn't a reboot. That's not the definition of a reboot. They use none of the same characters with new actors. 90s still not a reboot.
Here's something from the Merriam Webster site -- "The network ended up rebooting the franchise with a whole new cast. —Armando Tinoco, Deadline, 31 Mar. 2026 (https://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/reboot)
TypesAndPatterns@reddit
Not if they stick to the concept. Mad Max Fury Road, & Blade Runner 2049 were successful revivals, as was the revival of Deadwood. Then there’s the revivals of the original Star Trek, as well. For a lot of Star Trek fans, that’s when the show really got started.

No. I want one because I am selfish and greedy about Xena. However I truly don't think it would be the same because parts of what made the chemistry of the show no longer exist within society itself and I wouldn't be interested without the original cast.
I gave this idea up when Kevin Smith died mostly but with Robert Trebor gone and Sorbo having gone off the rails and Hurst being a director more than actor the window closed.
Which is okay. I want the spiritual successors
SecureAstronaut444@reddit
Sorbo was never really a big part of Xena, Hercules may have introduced the character, but he only appeared in Xena a couple of times
lapniappe@reddit
and today is the day I learned he died. so sad.
Byanychance@reddit
Same. Wow
Jahon_Dony@reddit
I think it would spoil what made the original Herc-verse special tbh. It's hard to capture lightning in a bottle more than once.
kittensbabette@reddit
I like ths idea of a sequel that has Xrna and Gabriel as older mentors to a new rag tag group of warrior fighting the good fight. Lucy, Renee and Ted would be in it but more as minor characters. Obviously there would have to be some reason that Xena wasn't actually dead, but that wouldn't be a crazy plot twist for the series.
FakeItFreddy@reddit
I would like a better ending... maybe a good 2 hour movie to fix this shit. I dont care that theyre older
ofvxnus@reddit
I would prefer a video game.
ChippieChamp@reddit
I wish there of a spinoff of Eve as I feel like her story, arc and redemption was incomplete and rushed in Xena.
giveherawinkforme@reddit
What about a prequel?
DanieXJ@reddit
This would solve the problem of the current producers not knowing what the hell they're doing, and so simply going dark dark dark dark irrespective of what the actual show is about.
Think the show Picard utterly missing the entire point of TNG (I blame Patrick Stewart, who, apparently doesn't know who the hell his character of Picard actually was) and ruining those characters for two seasons and then giving us a season of 'memberberries' because they think that'll make it all okay. The only two characters that came out relatively unscathed from the Picard debacle was Bev Crusher and Seven of Nine, and I think a lot of that was just those two amazing actresses going, 'nope, not gonna screw over my character like that thankyouverymuch'.
FirebirdWriter@reddit
Patrick Stewart didn't write Picard. Nothing he did would fix those scripts.
lapniappe@reddit
Patrick Stewart has been stupidly vocal ever since TNG that he wanted Picard to be more action-y hero. Every season they gave him that kind of episode and it got worse. He did not like cerebral diplomatic Picard. At All. so a lot of the nonsense in the scripts was because of his insistence.
DanieXJ@reddit
Never said he did. But, he was (or seemed to be from the humongous amount of PR where it was stated) heavily involved in who the J-L Picard on the Picard show would be. And... he apparently decided that Picard was simply Patrick Stewart, but, from France. When, after watching (live at the time) 7 Seasons of TNG, Picard is in fact not just Patrick Stewart.
I'm not saying that Patrick Stewart is a bad actor at all, I'll watch other stuff with him in it that doesn't have Star Trek on the outside of the tin. What I'm saying is that he thinks he knows who his character of Picard is, and, he really, really doesn't.
ZanderArch@reddit
Please no, just release a Blu-ray and don't use some stupid upscaler.
Popular-One-7051@reddit
No. There's no way they could create anything close to it. the characters are so iconic after all this time that there would always be comparisons. Even the "minor" characters were cast perfectly. Then there was the whole will they won't they between Xena and Gabrielle. You knew they loved each other, it was played so well. There are shows where the characters screwing like bunnies all the time makes sense, but I really love that it was understated but so obvious. Besides that's what we have fan fiction for lol
No_Masterpiece_3897@reddit
No, as much as I liked it leave it be.
It was very 90s, I don't think you could replicate the same feel, also it won't have the same impact as you'll forever be chasing the original. It was too mainstream and too recent for it not to be constantly chasing and being compared to that nostalgia.
You could maybe get away with a spin off series, something set in the same world and adjacent to the story, but not too much overlapping.
RedJacket2020s@reddit
Too long too old .
RynnB1983@reddit
id love if there was one...however having said that, I don't think they would be able to do the original series justice.
godsibi@reddit
AA action midquel game!
Look at what Robocop Rogue City did! Release a mid size action game with a fun gameplay loop that stays true to the source material and it can be a big success!
For Xena it could be placed chronologically in the middle of the TV show's run as if it was a missing episode/scroll. Maybe a proper ending to Dahak, or how Xena killed Velasca, or Najara comes out of the coma! Bring Lucy and Renée to do voiceover, likeness and mocap performance. Bring Joseph LoDuca for the soundtrack. It could be a masterpiece of a love letter for the fans.
Beautifala_Jones@reddit
No. But if people want to create new shows about the Greek myths with scantily clad female warriors I'm fine with that.
Xena was a strange magic that can in no way be recreated.
DanieXJ@reddit
Reboot. No.
A show that's set in universe. Sure if it's not done by some man-boy with a hard on who will ruin it. (Think Joss or JJ not Rob).
Lakinther@reddit
Live action? Probably not. Literally 0 chance they capture the same magic again. I would bet on it being terrible, but even if someone with the capability to make something good came along, i would still prefer they made an original series. Now if someone with big budget wanted to make an anime…. Well it would avoid a lot of the problems that a live action would have and i would definitely be interested, but even then you could argue that Xena as a story is finished snd it should be left alone
