Recently built this PC, a significant upgrade from my old PC, but wondering If I should bother buying a 1440p monitor to go with it, or if my new machine wouldn't really be able to make full use of it. Currently have a 144Hz 1080p monitor.

It'll 2k game in lots of games for sure, so you could get a 1440p.
And you could keep your 1080p and run a dual monitor setup. So if you're playing a super graphically intensive game and the 6800 is struggling on 2k to get the frames you want, you could default the game to your 1080p screen and game on that instead. Just have to get a mount that gives you flexibility to shift your monitors around. Or, get two single arm mounts to give you a lot of movement with both monitors.

I hope you didn't pay that much for the GPU. For $400 less you would have got a newer version of it with better features and newer architecture and longer driver support, for $70 less you could have just gotten a WAY better GPU than that which is also new, better architecture, better features, better driver support, and just plain better performance in the 9070/9070XT.

Don't get the 6800 for that price. You can get a 9070 XT for less and it's a way more powerful GPU

OP already built the pc and I suspect it wasn't the price they paid. They just put the parts into pcpartpicker.com. The build linked will do fine with 1440p, especially if using optiscaler to inject fsr4 int8.

I have almost the same build, just 32gb ram and a 5600x rather than 5600 and works fine at 1440p

RX 6800 can still hold up for light 1440p gaming imo. Really hope you didn’t pay $799 for it.
Itzharz@reddit
Yeah it can definitely handle 1440p but depending on how recently you built your pc you got really ripped off with that gpu price dawg
AzureBat@reddit
Yes, it can run 1440p pretty well. Basically around the entry level requirements for a good 1440p experience.
Due-Regret5410@reddit
Yeah it should be fine
