Make all clothes 4-way reversible (forward-backward x inside-outside) so we never have to worry about which way they’re on

I imagine that this would present some sewing challenges. Perhaps glue will be required. But then you need a non-toxic glue that won’t wash out.

French seams. You lock the fraying side ends in a little tube. Like this:
wrong sides together, sew seam closed at on edge, turn work right sides together, sew a second line 1 cm from the folded seam you just made.
There are also other seams, invented by jeans makers en by kayak makers. felled seams they’re called. With the kayak they make a watertight seam for the skin of the sea kayak.

Is it rigid or flexible? Soft or hard? I think that will affect my opinion of them more than understanding their method of construction. Will it feel like a normal shirt or will it have weird stiff lines down the sides?
Caticature@reddit
Inside out is easy: French seams.
back to front not so easy, the particular landscape of the front will lead to drapey clothes and I hate togas. But if we most toga than you‘ll have unlocked a third way: upside down Wearing is the same.

I care about back to front for shirts more than i care about inside out. When they just have a printed tag and it gets faded, it wastes precious time looking for it. I like not having a sticking out tag, but the printed tags fade and are hard to see sometimes.

Team No Tags. My shirts have a lower neckline in the front, my sweaters have a tiny safetypin witha trinklet in the front. One shirt I sewed a bright piece of embroidery silk there where the tag used to be.
a fading tag could get some bright permanent marker?

Backwards socks 🤔
PrestigiousPut6165@reddit
So how would they cover the toes?
Caticature@reddit
tube is closed at one end. They’re called tube socks because they lack the boomerang elbow shape of the heel. They’re just straight tubes. Still socks though so one end is closed (by tapering, gradually redcing stitches).
I’m wearing them as we speak. Sleep socks!

Tube socks. They’re a thing.

this would help my son. he's gonna be 16 and still wears things backwards or insideout unknowingly because of his autism. and he hates when i correct him about it...
Caticature@reddit
I have a little trinklet hanging at the fronts of my shirts for recognising the orientation. Little safety pin with a little brass robot; one with a piece of lego: one with a silver acorn. They stay in and go in the washing machine. Knitting stitch markers work also, they have a little crab hand fixture.
I need to wear my clothes with the front to the front, because the neck is raisedand I will get cross with the fabric touching my neck at the front. I’m an adult autistic. Because I cut the labels out I can’t see what’s the front, except for my trinket.
I don’t mind inside out. I call it fashion if anybody notices. People seldom notice and if they do they dont care. I imagine this is different when your 16yo. Still… it shouldn’t matter. Does he care about if others notice? Or is it mainly you?
His outer world needs to learn asap that he is a personality with his own style; that how he wears his clothes is not important; that joining him in his interest will be the ride of their life.

Also top/bottom

The only article of clothing would be a short dress without shoulders. Doesn't sound bad if we destroy mosquitos first
Caticature@reddit
A onesie with a little flap door in the crotch.
SentenceAwkward5302@reddit
Also make them inflatable, fire-resistant and self-cleaning.
ddollarsign@reddit (OP)
The self-cleaning would remove the rationale some people think this is for, but it’s really just so I don’t have to worry about looking for the tag before I put my my shirt on

You don't have boobs, do you?
ddollarsign@reddit (OP)
Maybe I have them in the front and the back
Tarnagona@reddit
Or a butt. OP is, apparently, a rectangle.
SeanFromQueens@reddit
Or a neck with a forward facing head attached to it. This redditor is a rare perfectly symmetrical body that can wear clothing in any which way

Harnessing the power of the sun with the ancient amulet they found in the attic.
BitterEVP1@reddit
Does each "side" also make it clean again?
That's how turning it inside out works.
SirTwitchALot@reddit
A friend of mine had a Soviet era shirt that was perfectly symmetrical, so you could do this. It wasn't the most flattering or comfortable fit
Steve-Shouts@reddit
But they'd be 1/2 as comfortable. No guy needs as much up front as he does in the back of his pants. (Resists dick joke)
the_glutton17@reddit
Is this a big problem for people?
ddollarsign@reddit (OP)
a minor inconvenience, but if you want to change the world, you have to start somewhere
TraditionalMetal1836@reddit
If that means they are double thick to avoid seams I'm 100% against this.
Nate_Christ@reddit
Double fabric that's twice as thin so it evens out
ddollarsign@reddit (OP)
i like the way you think
Ok_Veterinarian2715@reddit
Also means you can wear them 4 times without washing, he leered.
PeachyPixiePuff@reddit
Fashion brands about to sell one shirt as 4 shirts and quadruple the price.
Syrel@reddit
You right. "Reversible"
Fragraham@reddit
I wear em front, and I wear em back. Then I turn em out, and I wear em front, and I wear em back.
JustPlayDaGame@reddit
“that’s disgusting”
Questo417@reddit
The old costanza trick
beamerpook@reddit
I think a lot of ancient clothing might have been like that, where it's wrapped around the body, rather than structured the way they are now.
