I loved this movie and asked my mom to put it on at my 7th birthday party. Turns out none of the other 6-7 year old girls liked it at all. They all went outside to play and I didn't even notice until my mom gently suggested I finish the movie after they leave. I was so disappointed, I thought I was going to blow them all away with this awesome movie!
Right like I remember this movie being good but also as a kid it freaked me out more than a little bit. All’s well that ends well I guess but his parents having aged was nightmare fuel for me.
I wanna say “if you like any movie ever, give Project Hail Mary” a shot because I am such a fanboy for that film AND the book as well. Everybody should watch PHM!!!
This is one of my favorite childhood movies. It captured something special. And somehow, my wife (1983) had never seen this movie. We watched it together and she absolutely loved it.
I wish they’d give this a reboot. I loved it as a kid.
If there’s one complaint it’s that they do a great job with the atmosphere and mystery for the first half of the movie but then it kind of loses focus and becomes a road trip with Pee Wee. I kind of wish they’d had some greater objective than slowly driving to Fort Lauderdale
My son was giving me GPS directions from his phone just the other day, and I called him Navigator in a Pee Wee Herman voice. Sadly, even though we've watched the movie, he did not get the reference.
This movie had such a chokehold on me and my brother and now the only scene i vaguely recall is the sibling getting ready to go to a Twisted Sister concert
This genuinely made me laugh out loud because I used to be so jealous of him! I wanted a puckmaren and to fly around too. He was kind of a brat also a little bit a of peeping Tom. I didn't realize that til I watched it recently.
We got to watch this as a “special treat“, one day in class. It turns out that the teacher had been fired earlier in the day, and that was all she was allowed to do for us until the bell rang. She cried during the movie.
If you fire me I might cry, not that part. But it won’t be while doing the job you just fired me from, I’ll be at home arm wrestling Jack Daniels. You need somebody to watch the kids? Well, the bell just rang, GET TO STEPPING. Only a teacher puts the kids before their own pride and well being.
I watched this movie growing up and loved it. I watched it again like 3 months ago and holy shit is the second half bad. It’s a completely different movie than the first half because the studio was worried about it being too dark and made them finish it all light and goofy. If it was just dark, it would have been incredible. That switch was garbage and the movie just blew it so hard. COMPLIANCE
I just put this on for my kids yesterday! They freaking loved it. There was a post on this sub recently about the random VHS tape hanging around your house that became a family-favorite. This was ours!

I loved this movie as a kid. You are…. THE NAVIGATOR!
rob132@reddit
That part scared me where he flies and inch from his face.
Spiritual-Promise402@reddit
The part that creeped me out as a kid was when the robot's face went cloudy and wouldn't respond. I was horrified and thought he died

When he returned home and a new couple lived there, that scared me in such a deep visceral way when I was a kid.

Me too. I rewatched for the first time a year or so ago and was able to appreciate the movie.

New game for Xennials and nostalgic movies called Better than Iron Eagle. Episode 1. Flight of the Navigator = Better than Iron Eagle.

Just the original, or do the sequels count?
(How did that movie have sequels??)

You said it. The best it ever got was the first one.

Eh ? He had a little brother, I remember that. Now I think Sarah Jessica Parker mentions having gone to or is going to a twisted sister concert.
