Been seeing weed pendant necklaces everywhere lately… are people actually wearing them and where are they even buying good ones?

been seeing weed pendant necklace type jewelry more often lately and i cant tell if people actually wear them as part of outfits or its still more like novelty / festival type stuff
some of them dont even look that obvious anymore, like just small pendants or iced chains but others are kinda loud and obvious
im wondering if this is actually becoming a normal accessory in streetwear fits or its still kinda niche thing that ppl just buy for fun and never really wear outside
also quality wise im skeptical, hard to tell which ones are actual decent metal vs cheap plating from photos alone
anyone here actually owns one or seen them styled well in real outfits?

They're getting them out of grandma's jewelry box.
Quick-Elephant8204@reddit
tacky looking
ComfortableDouble668@reddit
ngl most of the ones i’ve seen feel more like costume jewelry than something you’d wear daily
OnlyPatience6302@reddit (OP)
yeah thats what i was thinking too, like cool for pics but maybe not everyday wear
censorized@reddit
If the human race survives, this time will be seen as a bizarre fluke where people were so obsessed with taking pictures of themselves that they have whole wardrobes for it.

Only if camera technology ceases to exist
GreenBeanTM@reddit
No it won’t. Portraits have been common throughout history.
FivebyFive@reddit
Is it cool for pics?
Beverly_Crusher_2324@reddit
I’ve never worn a weed flower thing and I’ve been a cannabis consumer for 17 years. I think it’s tacky and weird.
MyUsername2459@reddit
Also, it rather tells any cop around you to look at you with more suspicion.
That sign, on its own, isn't probable cause for an arrest, or even reasonable suspicion for a Terry stop. . .but it does clue them in to look at you a little closer and see if there's something else they can spot that would give them an excuse.
It draws unwanted and unneeded attention.
Remote_Ocelot9600@reddit
I have always enjoyed baiting cops to look at me. Only to make them flustered while I smile. It is a very odd hobby of mine.
I never wore marijuana anything due to living in LA. Even when I was young, most cops simply didn't care. Then in 96 medicinal was made legal so it was no longer a crime they could mess with me on.
CupBeEmpty@reddit
Some folks just don’t mold their identity around smoking weed
Beverly_Crusher_2324@reddit
I’m somewhere in the middle then bc I have 420 in my IG username, but it’s meant to be ironic
No-Mouse4800@reddit
What kind of weed? Ragweed or dandelion?
WorkingSpecialist257@reddit
I think in states where it's not legal, people wear them more. If it's a state where it is legal, they don't need to make a statement.
dragonsteel33@reddit
I think it’s generally an inherently tacky thing to wear, you don’t see me walking around with a pendant that’s a wine bottle or a bag though I also don’t consume like stoners do, but that’s been a thing forever
Classic_Climate_951@reddit
I see men wear beer shirts and women wear wine shirts/dresses/earrings. It becomes some people's whole personality. Just like weed becomes others personality. This is tacky but it's not just a stoner thing
dragonsteel33@reddit
No yeah, I think the point I’m gesturing at is more than there’s a certain kind of culture around weed that seems more pervasive than alcohol and certainly “harder” drugs. And most people who drink do so less regularly than weed, at least in my experience, I know that when I used to smoke it was certainly far more frequent than how much I drink
clearliquidclearjar@reddit
Alcohol themed clothing, jewelry, and tattoos are so common that you may just not notice them anymore. I see far, far more beer brand shorts than pot leaf shirts, for example.
dragonsteel33@reddit
Again yeah I’m not necessarily arguing that point, I’m saying that weed use has a specific identity and subculture associated with it (“stoner”) that people can access without the same level of suspicion that “drinker” does. With alcohol you have to make it highbrow (the IPA guy, everything around wine) or a joke (wine mom) or a symbol of something else (“I’m a God fearing American who drinks Miller Lite”)
clearliquidclearjar@reddit
It's not, it's just much less accepted.
dragonsteel33@reddit
That’s like not true and you know it. People generally don’t wear tasteful silver pendants with culturally weighted symbols on them because they don’t know/care what it’s communicating.
clearliquidclearjar@reddit
How is that more "intentional and pointed" than a gold whiskey bottle pendant?

Or a scotch bottle charm?

Maybe a whisky molecule pendant?

Or a gold beer stein?

People love to accessorize with drinking iconology. I was a big ol' drunk for almost 30 years and I've been sober for 6. It's everywhere. You can buy Pabst Blue Ribbon onesies for toddlers.
dragonsteel33@reddit
Ok but my point is not that people don’t accessorize with alcohol imagery. My point is that there is not an equivalent identity to “stoner” in regards to alcohol because there isn’t a cohesive subculture that grew up around alcohol use over 4+ decades of prohibition. (I mean you can be a “drunk uncle” or a “wine mom” or a “party girl” or whatever, but those are more fractured and conditioned by other factors, not just “do you drink”).
Also there’s a difference between something like a Pabst onesie in that that’s as much about brand loyalty and merchandising (there’s John Deere onesies, Toyota onesies, Coke onesies, AT&T onesies, whatever), versus a weed chain, which yeah there is a formal equivalent to with alcohol. But again I wouldn’t say they’re the same in function, because everyone I’ve ever met who owns weed jewelry identifies as a stoner and is signaling that with their jewelry choice and will quite happily tell you such, whereas like I own a Modelo shirt I stole from a guy I hooked up with in college that I wear around the house on the weekends and I don’t even drink beer, or I know a girl in college who had wine bottle earrings that amounted to “I just think they’re funny I can’t even drink because of my meds.”
clearliquidclearjar@reddit
There are probably hundreds of subcultures built up around alcohol use, from frat boys to wine moms. Willie Nelson style country boys, drunk punks, beer brewers, whiskey obsessives who make pilgramages to the breweries in Scotland...
dragonsteel33@reddit
But again, those are conditioned by and signaling something more complex than “I drink alcohol.”
clearliquidclearjar@reddit
And a weed pendant is symbolizing more than "I smoke weed" when combined with whatever other subculture markers the person is wearing. A Willie Nelson shirt? Certain brands of sneakers? Are they a Rasta, a Parrothead, a weed mom?

Classic_Climate_951@reddit
Most people who drink that I know can't have a meal without some type of alcohol. Stoners smoke a lot AND drunks drink a lot.
dragonsteel33@reddit
I think that’s reflective of the people you’re around lol. Most people who drink that I know, myself included, will have a few drinks socially and maybe a glass of wine on a Friday night, but don’t drink regularly.

Gestures at every piece of “wine mom” merchandise that exists:
jayzisne@reddit
Coachella is soon, probably why
Tron_35@reddit
I've only seen them sold in gimicky shops along with other novelty items. I'm sure people occasionally wear them but I've never seen anyone with them.
DerthOFdata@reddit
What year is this? Are we back in the 90's? Did the timeline reset?
Judgy-Introvert@reddit
I have not seen anyone wear one.
Apart_Insect_8859@reddit
You sure you aren't seeing a bunch of Ohio State Buckeye fans? The buckeye leaves look similar to pot leaves.
Apprehensive-Ant2141@reddit
It’s a sign that weed is probably most of their personality.
Altaira99@reddit
Very young adults might wear these, but nobody else does.
eirissazun@reddit
Seems the 90s/early 2000s are back xD
PolicyFit6490@reddit
quality is the main issue, most plated chains turn fast unless you actually find a decent maker
OnlyPatience6302@reddit (OP)
yeah i’ve had cheap chains tarnish before so i’m a bit cautious now
Alternative-Jacket70@reddit
i think i saw something like that on kannabling .com while browsing weed pendant necklace stuff, designs looked more polished than the usual random shops
OnlyPatience6302@reddit (OP)
oh interesting, i’ll check that out, i think i might’ve seen it before but wasnt sure
Latter_Ordinary_9466@reddit
i remember seeing some better looking ones when searching around, not sure if they’re legit brands or just IG stores tho
OnlyPatience6302@reddit (OP)
same, i keep running into mixed quality stuff so its hard to tell whats real or not
GuardTraditional145@reddit
depends on the design tbh, subtle ones can pass as normal streetwear if nobody zooms in
OnlyPatience6302@reddit (OP)
true, the subtle ones are actually kinda clean when done right
OK_Stop_Already@reddit
The weed symbol has been something people have worn for generations, as others have stated. Its not new at all. Maybe new to your SM feed.
And I'd say its a little niche, not everyone wears it. In my experience, people who partake often are the folks that wear it. Not that it's bad, but they usually are the ones who have it be a statement piece.
LetterheadClassic306@reddit
i’ve seen them working their way into everyday fits, especially the subtle ones. some brands use real sterling silver so they don’t turn your neck green after a week. for solid metal pieces that don’t look like festival leftovers, check out weed leaf pendant or cannabis leaf necklace. the iced chains are still more for shows but the smaller pendants definitely work with hoodies and tees.

Is this gatekeeping weed pendants?
ALoungerAtTheClubs@reddit
Weed enthusiasts have been wearing pot leaf jewelry for generations at this point.
